Jordan Peterson is a former psychology professor who has built a following off reactionary politics which have espoused homophobia, anti-women speeches and critiques of identity politics and political correctness.
Peterson gained traction in late 2016 when he became involved in a national Canadian debate over the rights of transgender people, and publicly refused to refer to one student by their chosen gender pronouns. Jordan Peterson is used to being in hot water, but this summer the pot is boiling. First, the bestselling author got in trouble for saying a transgender cheerleader for the Carolina Panthers and a plus-sized swimsuit model are “not beautiful.” Then he was suspended from Twitter for what he called “an irritated tweet” about transgender actor Elliot Page.

Your intro is inaccurate. He did not refuse to call a student by their chosen pronouns. He protested a piece Canadian legislation that would make it illegal to NOT address someone by their pronouns. Peterson himself lacks critical thinking. In an interview with Helen Lewis he claims patriarchy doesn't exist. When the interviewer counters by noting how majority of wealth and capital in almost every field of work is owned by men, he responds its a tiny substrata of men, informally admitting to existance of a patriarchy as it satisfies the condition positions of dominance and privilege are primarily held by men. Assuming this number should be large is a logical fallacy, as the number of people in power is always minuscule. He then goes on to argue that bad things happen to both sexes, as if women are the ONLY ones discriminated against in patriarchy; a strawman argument.

@Gab Salta Patriarchies are hierarchies with predominantly men holding positions of power, as in control of wealth and resources as well as making important decisions for how society is governed. Peterson, saying its a small number of men at the top doesn't take away from the interviewer's point that patriarchy exists, but actually justifies it.

Also let's be very clear, Jordan Peterson doesn't hate trans people or anything even remotely close to that. Rather it was an issue of free speech. He was told that he was required to use a pronoun for certain individuals or there would be consequences, that is fundamentally an infringement on the right to free speech regardless of views of pronouns or the people behind them. THAT was the main point and it's convenient for people to just look past that and call him and those who agree with him a bigot
