@@susanb5058 it's mainly because in the corporate world, your knowledge (or whatever strengths you have) can make others feel insecure. This can apply to one's boss or anyone else in the hierarchy. The unfortunate truth is that not developing oneself, and not having ambition plays right into the hands of those in power. Because it consolidates their power. What I have described are characteristics of unhealthy companies which tend to have power hierarchies rather than competency hierarchies (to use Peterson's terminology). This is much less the case in the famous technology companies, I think because it's much harder to 'fake' your way knowing math and science. Maybe that's why so many of them are successful. Just some thoughts, hope it helps.

Good on you man. You're spot on with everything you just said. Choose the right kind of sacrifice for yourself and become the best you can possibly be. My advice to you is just like JP, aim at the highest possible good like becoming a Doctor and you'll become a much happier and fulfilled person. Living up to your highest values and highest standards will bring out the very best in you and everyone around you. Take quick notice when you are feeling down, sluggish or you're not moving forward. Force yourself back on your feet and push yourself forward by any means necessary. Never let your focus turn inwards, keep it OUTWARDS on other people at all times, and keep the initiative. You'll become the ultimate world-beater that nobody wants to mess with. No joke man, you can do this and it will be ALL worth it! The end justifies the means. Remember that!

@True383 жыл бұрын
@Jacky Not at all, Jacky. Your focus turns inwards when you focus on your own negative thoughts and emotions, and that's why you suffer. You need to realize that nobody out there cares how you feel or think, so you might as well just try to stay positive. This is easier when you keep your focus outwards, away from yourself, your own thoughts, and your emotions. If you have a job, then it's easier because you will keep yourself occupied with work. If not, then there are numerous other ways to keep your focus outwards, like working on your own projects, start your own business, start a blog, write and share articles, do volunteer work, work out, hang out with friends and family, create something unique and exciting, help someone nearby etc. You don't have to do these things to keep the focus outwards but it definitely helps. I often sit around doing almost nothing but still manage to not get caught up in my own mind and emotions. Whenever I get a feeling that happens, I automatically force it away. Don't know about your mental health but if you've been through stuff in life you alone can't handle, then I would also suggest to go see a therapist. I did once, and it's no shame in it. In either case, also always remember to not take anything personal in life. You meet plenty of people in life and they all have their own view and perspective on the world that does not necessarily match with your own. What somebody else says or does is all about them, not you. You will find out pretty quickly that life becomes much more calm and peaceful if you just stay indifferent to whatever outcome you might encounter. You must keep yourself free, independent, self-reliant, and never be bound to anything or anyone. Master yourself and you will go far in life.

Elite244 I have gone to university and taken philosophy and the prof wasn't remotely as good as Dr. Pedersen. The fact is that Dr. Pedersen has risen to the pinnacle of prominence in this field is an indication of his high level of competence. It is a meritocracy of competence in the world and in acedemia; where the best rise to the top. Since Dr. Pedersen has risen to the top and not any other professor of philosophy, it is clear and plain logic; that Dr. Petersen is the best or among the best in his field in order to rise to the top of that field in what is a meritocracy. Therefore, your unwarranted criticism and denigration of Dr. Petersen; when compared to others in his field, is without merit.

Honestly the man really does think about a lot of stuff and tries to dissect them so he can figure out why it is the way that it is or why people react the way they do to problems. I learned to really think like this a bit back in high school on my own by accident in a period that was hard on me and during college when I had one math professor who honestly is one of the best teachers I had. He always showed us why certain math formulas make sense and didn't just give us the formula and say, "okay to calculate this, use this formula". In elementary and high school, it was usually that way for us but in college it just made knowing what to do even easier. He would literally just go in detail with us about why solving and using certain equations this way made sense and he would even do it the reverse way so we would see how the numbers always add up since math is just very fluid that way and that is one reason he loves the subject.

His students are so lucky to have him as their teacher.

I stopped procrastinating to the point where I neglected my hygiene and I do my jobs earlier than everyone around me. Thanks jordan, he motivates me to improve myself. He's an inspiration. I don't like those who try to glorify jordan's every word because that's not the point. The point is to better yourself each day and no one in this generation has said it so eloquiently as he did.

"On Marriage: The Rule is, you don't get to leave.... The point is, is that there are some games you don't get to play unless You're ALL IN...& the other thing that's so interesting about being ALIVE is that YOU'RE ALL IN -no matter what you do ~You're All In ~THIS IS GOING TO KILL YOU...so I think you might as well play the most magnificent game you can while you're waiting" ~ ...then his words on Mother & Child ...& Hero...he's just Classic (Authentic & Raw but refined!) JP in this clip!!! So Precious!!! He cares so much! Those students (& all of us) are blessed just to witness such honesty

I also came to the same conclusion some time ago that the meaning of Life is Life itself, or the living in it. That has held me steady in my bad times.

The more I listen to Jordan Peterson, the more I deeply resent those SJW nitwits who willfully misrepresent him.
@ereshkigalinanna66466 жыл бұрын
Starbat I’m new to his work, can you show me an example of an SJW misrepresenting him that you think fits? I’ve had SJWs as friends in the past, and I’m looking to hit some of their ideals with the biggest hammer I can find, alongside as all other information/perspective I come across.

Watch his interview with Cathy Newman. See how she constantly tries to frame his views as being other than what they are, so that she can pretend to criticize him by criticizing a blatant strawman. It's a thing to observe. It's like she only hears every other word he says. Mainstream media coverage of the aftermath of that interview only talks about how Cathy Newman was "threatened" on social media, with the implication that Peterson and/or his followers are somehow innately toxic; completely ignoring the fact that the backlash was due to how obtuse and confrontational she was in the interview, and how she made no attempt at actual understanding of his positions. Also check out his interview on Vice. It was a similar situation of misrepresentation. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJ23mJ-Dep6lrLM

Don't resent. Resentment is never good my friend. I don't mean to preach here, but I think love really is the answer. Don't love them if you can't, but at least have a place for a little mercy in your heart. Some of them might be well-intentioned but delusional, or ignorant, or some may have been fed fake news, etc. Hatred is not the answer. Love is. I think I understand where you're coming from but I'd try to do this if you really cared for this subject: Be a good example. Make yourself the best you can be. Be more elocuent and control your temper impecably. Learn how to debate, exchange ideas without the intent of defeating your "opponent", but rather humbly show them a better way. All of this is easier said than done, but I think they make sense..

This Man shows genuine care for problems day to day problems that people take lightly and just address on the surface level. His approach are more profound that what people pay for therapy and it’d go a long way beneficially in the world if people adopted this view.

it’s funny that everything you say has such a deep meaning that, before I start watching the videos I have to stop for some a minute or so, to prepare myself to get into the vibe, taking my head out of the daily matters so I can be prepared to “chew in” whatever you say and even so, I need to see the video many time to make full sense... sometimes I feel pretty dumb, though 🤣🤣🤣

He truly wants the best for people, I can't believe there is so many people out there that attack him when he does interviews. These people need to look in the mirror, do they not see that he's just trying to better people and turn us into the best versions of ourselves,he has knowledge that most of us don't have and we can benefit immensely from listening to this, and if he gets rich in the meantime more power to him.

Nice message. "Overcome evil with good", as Paul wrote. The only disagreement I have concerns the idea that life is suffering. For me, life is just one big opportunity. I know I am fortunate (so far), and would like to help others who have less. I am thankful to Dr Peterson for getting back to basics. Nothing astoundingly new, but all together right.
