The Taxpayers Union needs to extend to Ratepayers, who are getting smashed the the moment with 20% rates increases and councils imposing claims on titles and funding debt off back of value of private property and their ability to use this as security.

​@firefox5926 If the government's fiscal position was not so negative and World Economics not was not good at the time, Roger Douglas's ( Thatcher ) thinking would not have become fact. He sold productive assets ( taxpayers /citizens assets), which meant we lost the income streams to pay or contribute to interest on debt. Furthermore we reduced governments ability to influence the market.

Not really, it affects the profits they make, the price is mostly influenced by supply and demand. Private businesses are incentivized to reduce waste because they get to keep any savings. When Governments run out of money they can just demand more.
