You know what I really dislike? The people who keep claiming that p3d is a sim for pros and fsx isn't. The games are basically the same but p3d has more options and some people might get better performance. I don't see how the pmdg 737 becomes more realistic in p3d...

+patrik streng the only thing that makes it different for me is the water and the way it manages the memory to keep high fps during long haul flights, but i am now changing to p3d because it has way less errors in my pc and i don´t have to reinstall it every few months

P3D: Unneeded eye-candy, unbearable stutters, heavy VAS load (got OOMs even in sceneries FSX did never had an issue!) FSX: Smooth simulation, great FPS, 100% compatible addons. Prepar3d could have been a great improvement over FSX, but instead of revising the performance, they ruined it even more with heavy eye-candy and unneeded features. I am totally dissapointed.

Yes, X-Plane is an excellent simulator. Far more realistic than FSX and P3D together. Lacks a bit in terms of graphics, but its realism is just unique. The bad fact is, you have to begin from scratch with xplane. Buy addons etc..

I have the opportunity to get p3d for free. But I’m hesitant to swap sims. My setup just about runs the pmdg 737 if I switch to p3d do you think it would improve or be worse ?

Now that I installed fsx /steam and p3d side by side,I lost all of my great orbx airport addons. I miss the old and original FSX and wasted money and time on P3d. Its never going to be as good as FSX.

Do one straight up with each of their high settings! don't compensate to match P3D with FSX Stream. Some of us would love to see the best of P3D verses Steam with each running at their best for their set up

Thanks Jordan your videos persuaded to get both fsx steam and the dc 6 for x plane and you are correct it is much more stable and I can fly my A2A planes without fear of crashes.

Another great video Jordan, well done. though it feels we are @ the end of the line when come to improve FSX all three versions. I have never tried Xplane but don't understand why the flight sim developers community doesn't support it more. Depends on what you're trying to do. X Plane is realistic feel, playing by the rules kinda deal, but it's lacking in scenery and is not user friendly at all. FSX, has amazing graphics, user friendly, physics wise...eh..okay. ALot of 3rd party vendors. Really depends on your mood, when I'm in the mood to for seriousness I hop on X Plane. When I want to go look at the scenery+fly with my buddies I hop on FSX. Hope this helps.

I have invested a lot in FSX addons, would be too expensive for me to switch, but i must say P3D looks really great out of the box, however from experience, usually those addons you find on P3D are on FSX, where as those for FSX are not always on P3D. P3D would be nice to have, but you can "eye-candy-up" FSX quite a lot, using REX 4, water textures and some other shaders + ENB's and FSX will look like quite the game. P3D is still i solid second choice for me tho. Interesting comparison! Personally I'm more interested now to see what flight sim Dovetail is releasing late this year!

I notice that FSX-SE does omit alot of Autogen which explains why it did not "OOM" It was particularly obvious on final where you see lots of tall buildings in P3D bit not it FSX-SE! Still Dovetail did a great job performing CPR to FSX!!!

+Jordan King If you notice from minute 24:30 on the video there is a land class with heavy populated buildings on P3D but on the left split FSX-SE when time comes you see the land class but not even 1/4 as populated as P3D. Let me know if i'm mistaking. I know DTG did a lot of tweaking on the autogen and also on the LOD radious. As example Aircraft are not visible until they are about 1 mile from you!

+Otniel Ocampo If you look at my latest FSX Steam Edition videos you can see that air traffic is visible over 10 miles away. Also, P3D uses different landclass data than FSX. That is why some of the landclass may not look similar. DTG did no tweaking to the autogen placement, landclass, or LOD.

Thanks for the vid. I believe P3D generates much more Autogen for the equivalent setting in FSX. In fact I also believe that most of the sliders are not equivalent for the same setting in FSX. So attempting comparisons can be tricky. At least, this is the impressions I got from tracking the P3D forums over the last year and a half. When the PMDG 777 comes out I'll really know what the difference is between P3D and FSX because I've been flying it since it came out for FSX. I know how it flies, feels and performs very well on that platform. So will be interesting to fly it in P3D and discover if the experience is better.

777 in p3d your more than likely gunna have an Oom before you even take off. Lol pmdg 777 is the most VAS intensive add-on for aircraft known to man. To much VAS for p3d.

dude, thanks, yes we get the VAS improvments now, what else you got in your locker? Noticed the FSUIPC chimes of death as you land in FSX there, you were a smidge off OOM, i can't fly with Autogen to 5 its killer on frames on my machine, will keep an eye on your uploads and thanks for the efforts, also check on that child in the background LOL

Jordan, Great Video. Why do you think PD3 crashed at the end of your test. Too many addons? A bug? Optimization? I want to switch to PD3 but after your test I have reservations.

+Alpha Kontrolle Hello Alpha! It crashed because what is known as an OOM or Out of Memory error which is usually caused by the program hitting the 4gb cap on available memory for a 32bit program. In P3D v3 this stability has been enhanced and the program will dumb unused scenery to try to keep it stable but it is still 32 bit so it can happen.

Hi Jordan love your channel, I'm just starting to build my sim and I really find your channel informative. I was wondering in this video what edition of P3D you used in this comparison ? P3D V3 supposedly has vastly improved the memory usage as compared to other earlier versions. For instance V3 now will dump scenery that's not being seen (used) which frees up large amounts of memory.

+jajawockeez Its called an OOM or "Out Of Memory" error which shuts down an application when it runs out of virtual address space. It happens when a sim is overloaded with too many addons and doesnt purge the virtual memory. I didnt edit anything during flight, I was simply pulling up the .cfg for FSX which shows all of the settings that the application runs with.

Hi Jordan. I watched your video, and thought I would give FSXSE another try, as you were very positive in your comments! I moved to XPlane 10, because I was tired of the crashes I experienced, FSX Classic. I do not know how you manage it, but FSX SE for me, exhibits the same annoying faults. Can you tell me what the possible cause is. I do not think it is my rig as I can use other simulators with steam without any problems. Any help will be really appreciated. XPlane is good it just does not have the same level of realism as FSX, unfortunately.

Hi Jordan, Twice when changing from VC to spot view and then right click options to go,back tomVC it hangs, and closes without any error message so it would be a CTD same as you predicated with Classic when it crashed.

Clive White had something similar check your video card in my case it is dieing under-clocking my pre clocked card fixed that. Also as a side note somewhat related Everquest uses DX9 and I had similar crashes on it went into its install dir and installed the dx9 SDK that sits in its REDIST dir and well that fixed EQ and to my surprise made FSX:SE run even better. This worked for me and who knows maybe it will give you some ideas as to your problem

I have gone over to p3d, from fsx-se,and yes littel better looking, but after just 1 month,my p3d have crash so bad. Even after i tried redownload agian, and still cant get it to work at all!! So back to fsx se, bit more stabil program i think.

+Stefan Wright Thats for you to decide. They are completely different platforms although on a similar sim. The price of FSX Steam is far greater than P3D which is intended for commercial and academic use. But if you are using it for the right reasons, P3D is a great option. For general use and simulation, FSX SE is a great option.
