Across the nation, many old dams are being removed rather than being replaced. This strategy can not only prevent failure, but also restores the natural flow of the rivers.
@rodshop58974 жыл бұрын
Don't forget that flooding is a natural part of rivers. So removing the dam does not prevent flooding.
@putz47474 жыл бұрын
@@rodshop5897 ummmm. Yes it does. It you REMOVE the restrictions to the flow of water and don't cause it to gather behind an artificial wall, the DEPTH of the river lowers, thereby increasing the acre-feet of water able to be channeled by the river. The idea that dams CONTROL flooding is what the owners of the dam would have you believe, when in reality, they just wanna make $$$
@rodshop58974 жыл бұрын
@@putz4747 That's an interesting idea, but if it were true, then why do we have thousands of years of human history recording un-dammed rivers flooding? How often has this area flooded in the years from 1926-2019?

Thank you for all the updates. The stone put in at the bridge is crushed limestone. It makes a good drain through it, and when compacted is like concrete. Looks like they're layering it with the plastic to drain off so it doesn't do like the dam did and liquefy.

There is another channel called An Aerial Viewpoint who has a great series on the deliberate removal of a dam in Sandusky Ohio. @@green-gables I have reviewed some of the information. I think the circumstances are very different now than at the time the original dams were constructed. And those circumstances will make building a dam today far more complex and expensive. And the environmental impact will be carefully evaluated by regulatory authorities.
