There sure is a lot of beauty in the way the water is naturally flowing there. I get that the homeowners want their lake back, but nature sure has its own beauty if left alone.

Amazing at how quickly nature wants to reclaim the lake bed. Sand when placed and compacted correctly forms a water impentrable layer .Known the proccess be used for artificial lakes in the UK. The excess water and flood particulary with the failure of the dam will have broken up the compacted sand on the lake sides resulting in the erosion.Thats movement of the water lifting sand particuls. Would be great to see the salvage of the steam shovel and its eventual restoration. Oh focus of your camera .You showed classic splalling of the concrete on the reniforcement of this dam.This is where the water has penetrated the concrete to rust the reinforcement and cause the overlaying concrete to fall off. As rust expands the iron reinforcement at some huge rate over time by volume.Over 5 times the original volume. Thanks for the views Jordan. As ive said before the intergrated dam complex and those around the area requires a full in depth professional evaluation before any restoration or rebuilding .Which could end up far more complex than people think. Particulary dams constructed around the same time. Thats an independant survey and evaluation where cutting corners is not the aim. God bless hope the community is reestablishing its self .

@mountainman5025

It was there to build the banks and help to provide protection from erosion during the construction of the lake. A track broke on the left side, and it took too long to get a replacement, with no equipment left close enough to pull her out in time, they stripped the good rigging off, and left her there and she slowly vanished under the rising waters, where she sat for years, till one day, the dam broke, and she popped back into view. From the looks of her, she's beyond repair, parts will be hard to find. Good luck though. Send it to Germany. They can do it.

Here in Poland we have a big dam on Vistula river which was built 50 years ago and was suppose to be part of many dams cascade. Other dams were never built. The river bed below the dam dropped 3.5m (10foot) because the sediment was stopped by the dam. The dam was not designed to work in such conditions. The water level below the dam also dropped. People talk that this dam might be dangerous but nothing is done about it. Now they talk about building another dam but nothing is happening. Actually the best solution would be to tear it down but that would be very unpopular and no politician will make that decision. The dam destroyed migratory fish in whole Poland as it’s the biggest river, salmon used to go up to mountain rivers, not anymore. Sediment is filling the reservoir and in another 50 years it will be full.

I hoping they arent going to be putting another Dam back up. VERY BAD IDEA to rebuild a dam. Just keep it a RIVER/stream

Camera technique: Forget the Digital Zoom. When zoomed to high mag DON'T Move ~ micro move maybe add a monopod to help keep steady. The image quality is impressive so the camera has the right stuff for sur. :)

It’s a river now, so why do they think they can stop people from going out to the edge of the river. What is wrong with people getting out there on the old lake beds?

I'm not familiar with the operation of your model camera, but have been in the photo industry for decades and a professional photographer for over 35 years, I have a few suggestions. I'm sure you have read the manual for your camera, many times. Does your camera have spot focus? Can you set what and where the camera will focus on? The pro Nikon's that I have, let me pick which part of the screen the camera will focus on. I can also adjust the degree of spot focus I want. I can use spot focus or widen the focus field out. Can you do any of that with your camera? Your videos or photos should be sharp, at any focal length of your zoom. But, if you decide to use the digital part to get even closer, rather than staying with the optical zoom, you will not have a sharp image. Also, using higher magnification will result in more movement seen. Using a sturdy tripod will help. You might find a sturdy monopod, that has feet or legs to work. You have a great camera. It's one on my list, when I don't need the big boys or the weight. Best of luck to you. It takes practice and time getting used to a new camera, or anything, for that matter.

Thanks. Yes, I noticed that I do zoom in a little to much and need to move much slower. The problem with this much zoom is it picks up the atmospheric shifts especially on a hot day. I can switch it over to manual focus instead of constant but there is no spot focus. It will take a little getting used to.
