fun facts : -taemin hired the mv director himself and brainstormed with the director for both of his mvs (idea and criminal). -taemin wanted natural settings for his mv (hence the sky and forest scenes) -the sky is not cg but the thunderstorm is (obviously) -there’s interview of the mv director and he said the bar scene in white represents heaven and the fire scene represents hell and taemin was supposedly finding his place between the two -idea mv was being edited and revised by the director AND taemin until last minute (as in the morning they uploaded the mv on youtube). thank you for reacting to taemin! i was looking for your taemin reactions lol and finally!

I disagree with the video director about the white bar being heaven and I sort of wonder if there was a problem of minstranslation when saying this because there is no way that heaven has drinking and gambling. My thought is that Heaven and Hell are clear (blue and black outfit) and Purgatory is split between the white bar, the forest, the void and the scene with the pink jacket. I have to watch Taemin's VLive too but I think he said something similar.

Speaking of TaeMin’s dancing abilities, he is considered to be the best dancer in Kpop. He controls his body movements so precisely! In my opinion, when some idol from a group has their solo, they are using the advantage of the name of their group in compare with solo idols, who are solists right from the beginning. Although TaeMin is from SHINee, he would have been able to be successful as an solist anyway. He has his own stage presence and he is not there just as a singer or brilliant dancer, but as an artist. And speaking of art. This title track IDEA is from is Act 2 album called Never Gonna Dance Again, I’m mentioning the number 2 because Criminal from Act 1 is also so awesome but the thing, which makes IDEA so unique is the unpopular/non- mainstream form of song composition. I can’t tell which one is better or which one I prefer, but IDEA has this unsual sinister-like vibe combined with the music video’s parts in the forest and the weird statue melting thing. Thank You for your analysis. I have never thought about video editing as being a choreographer of the whole music video! Interesting!

SHINee is not heavily promoted outside the Korean and Japanese market. Taemin has attracted new fans who aren't familiar with SHINee and introduced SHINee to them. SM didn't promote Taemin's comeback well. At least I hope SM promotes the SHINee comeback more. Boys are getting older and I want their music to be more well known. I'm not talking about fame.

Taemin is just one of those performers that leaves you speechless every time he steps on stage. He was born to be a performer and that is one of the reasons why he has become known as the Korean Michael Jackson. That is also why, as one of the top two dancers in the industry, he was made a member of SuperM. (Kai from EXO -- Taemin's best friend since they were trainees, who is also under SM Entertainment, as well as a member of SuperM -- is the other top dancer.) Taemin is an Idol of Idols and a legend of legends. And the title of the industry's BEST dancer isn't just a fan's opinion but it's a widely agreed upon title bestowed on both Taemin and Kai by their peers and the industry as a whole. There is literally no one considered better than them. Taemin is one of the most popular solo artists, as well as the youngest member of the legendary Kpop group SHINee. He debuted as a solo artist in 2014 and "Idea" is part of his 3rd Korean solo album called Never Gonna Dance Again. It is part of a trilogy which started with his prologue "2 Kids," and continued with "Criminal" which is part of Act 1 of the album. "Idea" is part of Act 2 of the album and it brings the whole concept full circle. As Taemin said in an interview: "The two acts put together tell a story. '2 Kids’ is about growing pains and depicts the story prior to the story in the album. You can think of '2 Kids' as a teaser before the movie called 'Never Gonna Dance Again.' Act 1 shows a new side of me. I think it’ll be something you’ve never seen in K-pop before. And Act 2 is the end-all-be-all. It’s the ultimate level of intensity. Never Gonna Dance Again’ was originally the name of the concept. Because it doesn’t make sense for me to stop dancing. But I wanted to give a sense of rebellion with the irony of the title.” Some have said, and I have to agree, that "Idea" is a metaphor for the way Taemin sees his career. He loves what he does, almost to the point of obsession -- like "my messiah" he is drawn to it and can't help worship it -- he practically needs to dance and perform to survive. But, at the same time, it pretty much controls his life and living as an Idol means everything he does is done in the public eye and he will never be able to live a normal life -- his "dangerous dream" that is engulfing him and "swallowing him" up. The stress and constant demand for perfection he feels may be slowly "Killing me softly," etc. I particularly like the verse in "Idea" that says, "The blue light, When you and I face each other, Stained in it, All one's feelings, It's an infinite range, In my world, Most dazzling,The absolute value of you, My my IDEA." These lines seem to be talking about Taemin's fans. SHINee's fan color is pearl aqua blue, so the blue light you see in the MV and the blue light he talks about in the lyrics of "Idea," makes me think he is referring to the impact and influence the fans have had on everything he has done in his career. And although he loves and appreciates us, it has not come without a few sacrifices and negative aspects as well. The mutual love and respect between Taemin and the fans also has added a lot of extra pressure on him because he always wants to give people his absolute best and he is constantly trying to live up to an impossible standard of self-imposed flawlessness. So with every release from this album, the concept was designed to be darker than the last. In "2 Kids" he was emotionally and physically beating himself up with regrets and in "Criminal" he was living in a toxic relationship and being brainwashed to the point he was suffering from stockholm syndrome; he fell in love with the person/criminal (or thing -- i.e. his career) who is essentially inflicting all the pain and suffering on him. So, in other words, even though you are being abused by that person (possibly a metaphor for the pressure he is creating for himself as he pushes himself in his pursuit of perfection) he still can't help but love the criminal (i.e. his career) and allow them/it to continue to cause him to suffer, etc. :D "Idea" takes the theme one step further, and says that even though it was my idea and my plan to live this life, nothing comes without a price, and because of that self-inflicted need to be flawless, any chance of being average or living a regular life is pretty much dead. Taemin has sacrificed everything to become the magnificent and unique performer and person that we know him as today. But there really is no one that pushes him or holds him to a higher standard then himself. Taemin has said that he really has never taken a true vacation since he was a trainee -- he started with SM Entertainment when he was around 11 years old -- and he doesn't know what to do if he isn't constantly working and training. The thing that he hates the most is when people assume he has had it easy because he is part of a big and powerful company and he is so naturally talented. As he has said, there has never been anything that has come easy to him and he has only gotten to where he is today because he has worked hard to accomplish everything. He is constantly pushing himself to become the best of the best in everything he does. Fun fact: The female voice you hear in "Idea " is BoA. She is a solo artist also under SM Entertainment, and she is Taemin's highly respected senior who debuted with SM in 2000 at the age of 13 and, now after 20 years, she is known as one of the senior-most members of the industry. BoA is legend. To see what kind of influence BoA has had on the industry and why it is so fitting that she was included on this song, check out her recent "202020" documentary. If you are impressed with Taemin's dancing, just wait until you see his dance practice video for "Idea." You will be even more blown away. As I said, Taemin is on a whole other level. Taemin's choreography is very much influenced by him. Although he has input in almost everything he does, he has choreographers that come up with the choreography for most of his dances and he then infuses it with his own ideas and style and makes it uniquely his. The way Taemin dances is just the way he moves. His movements are effortless. If you watch Taemin dance more, you will see that no matter who choreographs the dance, it will always be very Taemin-like. Many choreographers who have worked with him over the years have said that, with Taemin you can't help but allow him to move in whatever way his body takes him. Taemin is art in every sense of the word. :D Taemin's style of dance can't be defined. As he has said, he has worked his entire career to create a style of dance that is unlike anything in the Kpop industry. And I would argue that that now extends to the entire industry of dance. Taemin started out as a self-taught popper and locker without any dance training, and, even then, as a trainee it was clear his skills as a dancer went far beyond the average dancer. Over the years, as you see with "Idea," he has infused those popping and locking skills into his now more contemporary style of dance. But, when it comes to dancing, he can do it all and there is no one better at it than him. Taemin's talents are one reason why SHINee are one of the top groups in the industry and why they have such legendary status. SHINee is made up of some of the absolute best singers, dancers and performers in the entire industry. With more than 12 years since their debut, they still command one of the top spots. When Taemin debuted in 2008 as part of SHINee he was only 14 years old and, yet, he was already known as one of the best dancers in the industry, and he has only gotten more magnificent over the years. Now after 12 years Taemin is still one of the youngest in many Kpop circles (he is only 27) and, yet, he often has the most seniority and experience. He is so well respected that everyone looks up to him. The funny thing is, although Taemin is ultra confident when on stage, when not performing his personality is the complete opposite.That's what makes him even more lovable and why he is so popular. When on stage, Taemin can turn his sexy, sensual side up to 3,000 and he become the most powerful and magnificent performer that command the stage. But the minute he step off the stage he becomes quiet and shy and he blushes when people compliment him for his looks or performance. When not on stage, Taemin is known for being sort of innocent and kind of naive and a little ditsy, as only the maknae (youngest member) of a group can get away with -- he is 2 to 4 years younger than the rest of the SHINee members and he plays up being the baby when he is around them, and they pretty much will do anything he asks. He knows how to be cute when he wants something, but he hates it when someone asks him to be cute. LOL. SHINee are a 5 member group that is known for their live vocals and amazing dancing. They are known as CD-quality singers because they sound just as good live, if not better, than they do recorded. SHINee always sings live. The ONLY thing they are not good at is lip syncing so they avoid it at all costs, so when you hear SHINee singing 95% of the time it will be live. They have trained their entire career to be able to sing live for 3+ hours straight and always sound flawless while performing extremely complex choreography the whole time. SHINee is the group that really set the standard when it comes to live performances. It's literally known as the SHINee standard and it's what all other groups work to reach.

I am glad you talked about the colour contrasting in this video because it's a key point also in the other videos in this series (2 kids, criminal). 2 kids is blue/yellow and criminal is red/green. This video is sort of a combination (blue/red). I read somewhere that the blue is heaven and the red is hell and Taemin is finding a place in between.
