That 5:16 sound was most likely caused due to shipping damage. These fans are transported in their original boxes to the retail store, and as you noticed that there is no packaging material in the box to protect the fan during shipping. If the fan box was sitting horizontally in the truck, and something heavy was put in the center of the box during shipping, it will bend the front grill inwards and cause this issue. The company can easily fix this by adding a layer of protective packaging material between the fan and box, but they want to save some money.

Lasko really knows how to make high-quality fans, but there is no way that fan can outperform the Lasko 3733 box fan, which is truly the best fan in the world! The Lasko 3733 moves 8,000 CFM and has amazing build quality! The Lasko 3733 also has a permanently lubricated motor so you will never have to oil it! The motor is also thermally protected and shuts off before it gets too hot! The Lasko 3733 moves so much air that we don't even need air conditioning during the summer! One time I decided to play a funny prank on my daughter Meg, so I put the Lasko 3733 in her room and farted into it while it was turned on, and it blew 8,000 CFM of my fart air all over her room! She threw up all over her room and was so mad at me and it was hilarious! Lois and I really love our Lasko 3733 because it is the best fan on the planet! Seeing all the defects with this fan, I almost wonder if these “USA” units are secretly units that didn’t quite pass quality control, and the whole America thing is just a ploy to get them sold and save Lasko a bit of money. Unless normal 3733s are like this too, haven’t bought one so I can’t attest to the quality of a normal one. But the cracked guard is actually insane, wouldn’t expect a fan like that to pass quality control.

You don't have to but you can do an Initial Checkout of the all new Lasko EcoQuiet pedestal fan. It might become available in stores or online as this product came out less then a year ago. Honestly though, speaking of the EcoQuiet I don't think that much R&D effort went into it as it clearly resembles the Lasko Elite Collection 18 inch stand fan, but with a modified control panel.

I don't think that much R&D effort went into taking an existing product (the 3733) and changing some colors. If that and some clever marketing were enough to make you buy it, chances are it will be enough to make a lot more people buy it as well, which is the only goal they're striving for. Besides, it's very seldom for "Made in USA" and a reasonable price to coexist anymore.

Probably not, it seems to be more or less identical to the 'Cool Colors' series, which already existed. It worked on me, but I can't imagine many average consumers would really care that much about a product like this over the cheaper comparable (3733).

Do these companies know people are willing to pay a premium for USA made products? Manufacture all the parts in the USA, I'll pay for the markup if I know all the money I'm spending is going directly back into the US. Make it work better, last longer, built tougher, I'll pay for the extras. If this fan was $40-$50 and was 100% made in the US I'd guarantee buy it.
