Knowing the heights she reached and the success she had in the sport, it is inspiring to watch her perform her duties as the UCLA team manager. One might think that schlepping crash pads, chalking bars, and even helping with hair and makeup is work not worthy of gold medalist, but she loves and respects the sport so much that she eats it up and appears to love every minute. She embodies the saying, "Do what you love and love what you do and you'll never work a day in your life," and I'm sure she'll be a success in whatever she does next.

Jordyn has always been one of my favorite gymnasts.. so talented yet so humble and sweet. Makes me so sad to hear that she can't compete in NCAA. They really should do something about that even though it probably won't be easy.

Jordyn Weiber was my favorite fierce five member. I always felt she was the most humble, genuine, and hard-working gymnast. My heart broke for her when she didn't make finals but I'm so glad she's happy. Can't wait to see her perform again, only wish she could compete again.

Amen, I'm so sad to find out that she won't be competing anymore and has retired. I was so hoping she would try again for the all around. My heart broke for her when they excluded her from competing in the all around in 2012. That was so cruel in my book. So much unfairness starting last Olympics in terms of Women's Gymnastics. 3rd place should still make it to the finals in my book, don't give a fuck what the hell they say or their fucking new rules.She was not only the best but also the most graceful and beautiful out of all the fierce five. That was supposed to be her gold medal--not Gabby Douglas.

I agree that she has the heart and soul for great success, but Marta Karoli can be as tough as nails (in other words, a bitch) if she needs to be, just like Bella...and I think Jordyn is just too kind-hearted to be as emotionally intense as them. Lol

@vjcorey6 ай бұрын
total BS that she didn't compete because of a stupid rule. Jordyn Wieber did not get to compete in the all-around final at the 2012 London Olympics due to a rule that limited each country to only two competitors in that event, despite her high qualifying score.

She is a very great gymnast! I have seen many of her competition's, and every single one she did great. Even when she messed things up, she was still a well known professional gymnast. Didn't realize all that went into the political side of being a pro vs. an amateur. That is a ridiculous rule for the sport of gymnastics. What a tough decision Jordyn and lots of others have made. The NCAA needs to change something in regards to the olympics, especially when it comes to Gymnastics
@tosh47718 жыл бұрын
It's not so much about the Olympics as much as she went pro by accepting endorsement deals. I hate this rule and even believe college players should get paid when you figure that college football is a billion dollar industry, college coaches make millions and can accept endorsement deals, but the players get "experience" that doesn't necessarily do them any good because they have no choice in the matter. What's funny is college players can essentially go pro in baseball (i.e. Russell Wilson, Brandon Weeden) and still play college football.
@DeannaHongProductions8 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have to reiterate that the NCAA does not have an issue with Olympians. There are many current NCAA athletes who have already competed in the Olympics, or will compete this year. While many of these athletes can continue their sport after they graduate from college, most gymnasts will not be able to because their bodies won't be able to put up with gymnastics for much longer. This is why Miss Val, Kyla, and Jordyn talk about the "small window of opportunity" for gymnasts in this video.
@TickleMeElmo558 жыл бұрын
Athletic scholarships are their "payment." It's a sweet deal, really. Free tuition + books & fees + room & board. Plus, any money that would've been used for any of said expenses goes towards rent and food when they get an apartment after their freshmen yr.
@staciegreen86598 жыл бұрын
I still think Jordyn was the best on the USA team in 2012 and she should have won
@wpl66618 жыл бұрын
The NCAA is duplicitous when it comes to professional and amateur status. You can actually play college football while having been drafted by and playing minor league baseball. Drew Henson played football at the University of Michigan from 1998 to 2000 while having been drafted by the Yankees in 1998 and signed to a 17 million dollar contract.
@chrisackerson95258 жыл бұрын
+sienna three I actually believe that is against NCAA rules. Athletes are not allowed to make money off their 'likeness' or 'image' no matter if it's in the same, or a different sport. If they make money, in anyway, based upon their 'celebrity' (for lack of a better word) they are ineligible to compete. The NCAA would say the exposure you got from playing that sport helped you get that contract. So in your scenario the quarterback would be ineligible. That is how I understand the rules anyway.
@gymstyle50917 жыл бұрын
likeness or image related to their sport. Shayla Worley was a model as a kid and got paid and still got to compete gymnastics.

wait im not sure i get it can someone help clear this up: because she accepted money and endorsements when she was going through the Olympic process, that labeled her as a "pro" and therefore she was not able to compete in college? but how come after she retired from pro she still couldn't compete with college?
@pei-chunchu14528 жыл бұрын
because she goes pro. So, she is a professional athletic. A professional athletic can't not compete in NCAA. Fierce five only Ross did not go pro after 2012.
@DeannaHongProductions8 жыл бұрын
Athletes cannot "undo" going pro. Once an athlete accepts money, they lose their amateur status and are considered a professional athlete.
@chelsm908 жыл бұрын
hmm that interesting and kind of unfortunate
@Elong.8 жыл бұрын
Why did Miss Val say "of course" when Jordan called if she was professional? To be a team manager only?
@renren5958 жыл бұрын
+Deanna Hong is that a new rule? Jordyn said in her video that she always wanted to be a college gymnast so i feel like they should have known that, or checked the rules before going pro. Her "team" definitely overlooked that.or maybe she was just riding the post-olympic wave and it's hard to turn down endorsements so i'm not judging her. it really is unfortunate. The NCAA and their hold over college athletes is another story
