not all films have shallow depth of field, you should only use it when it's relevant to the story. shooting like this can make the image softer and make it harder to focus.

@@tesha199 Right, but with the larger sensor it still gets better performance. I hate when people act like shooting with smaller sensors is an advantage. Like when you factor in a tighter focal range on the same actual lenses (all the best consumer glass is for full frame) it just isn't worth it. Not when Canon and Sony both have affordable full frame now for not much more. And if you are buying the better full frame lenses and adapting, you might as well spend a bit more and get an RP/R or a used sony A7III or A7sII

I really hate bokeh in KZbin videos....when it’s subtle, it looks great...but a lot of KZbinrs overdo it 🤢 they should put more effort in making a nice looking set instead of blurring it out.

I use the M50 for all my KZbin videos. But since my videos are not artistic stories, I’m pretty happy with the standard profile with some minor color grading. I do try to stick to the wide open aperture and 180° shutter speed, so I have a variable ND filter that I use A LOT!

Great video! I film in my shop under 60,000 lumens of light so I actually use an ND filter inside!😂 I got tired of setting up lights over every work station to get the right shot. I found this works well! Cheers

I've used cinestyle. Basically, you gain dynamic range in the highlights and shadows, but you lose midtone detail. Also, it can be a pain to expose correctly and even more of a nightmare to color grade. I'd save my time and just shoot with the natural picture profile.

I love my M50, I shot all the videos on my channel with it but I recently added the EOS R to my arsenal as well. I may end up using the natural profile again because it is hard to match c-log footage to cinestyle. If they add c-log to the m50 that would be awesome.

I prefer using Andrew Reid's C-log I find the colors are more vibrant with less noise. Also with the Sigma f1.4 lenses you can now get really sharp images with some crazy bokeh, particularly with the 56mm

Hi Joris. I installed the cine profile. Taking a closer look at it: sharpness and contrast are set to zero, other settings are the same as for the neutral profile. My question : wouldnt it just be easier to take a user defined profile and make the necessary settings? Why the need to install? Or am I missing something?

Hollywood uses shallow dof very sparingly. Idk where you got the idea that its always shallow. The 85 or 135mm 1.2, 1.4 at biggest aperture thing, i associate that more with fashion or portrait stills (and that's arguably a dated look that's more associated with beginners these days). But a controlled slight selective focus at typically 2.8-5.6, sure.

This is even untrue. Very very shallow DoF means hard to focus, and maintain focus in movement... so actually depth of field is quite controlled in cinema, especially when camera or actors have to move. This is the n1 KZbin cinematic tip from pepople that never had to pull focus for real.

Sure, any camera will work. Green key is more about the software you'll use. I'm not familiar with those, though. As for image quality, they're both really close but the Canon M50 Mark II will be announced soon. Maybe wait for that one?

I want a camera to make KZbin videos. Indoor like this one and outdoor too. But the priority by far is indoor with no action. I was thinking of the M50. Well, Right now I would not go for the M50 for the simple reason that Canon probably won’t continue the M series next year when the release an aps-c camera for their RF mount.

Cinestyle is truly awful for 8 bit cameras. You're artificially reducing the range (in other words, you're not actually gaining dynamic range, you're just losing color information), then in post you're artificially trying to boost it back up. It's a huge waste. Just keep things simple - get as close to the final image you want in the camera and call it a day.

It’s the other way round. Shutterspeed double the frame rate. So 24FPS at 1/48s , 60FPS at 1/120s and so on...

I wouldn't recommend using cheap filters, that one that you used was bad AF, it color shifted your image, it added a vignetting and the overall look was bad, you should definitely invest on a good quality filter and use step up rings for all your lenses. Yes it's expensive, but i'll give you a better and more cinematic result.
