@Joris Hermans ... can you please comment on your thoughts of whether or not the M50 can be thought of as "cinematic" in terms of its 1080p image quality? i know "cinematic" is a word that gets used and abused lately on KZbin but just as a method of a quick shorthand, wanted to hear your thoughts on this camera in that regard, (dynamic range, image, etc) and thank you I am seriously looking into purchasing a used M50 in the upcoming year, as a Stills camera & for capturing Live sports Events due to the excellent autofocus, articulated screen, EVF, etc...but I'm also interested in the M50 for the fact that Sirui's anamorphic lenses work with EF-M mounts) -so thats where the "cinema" part comes in... Haven't tried it yet but you can also make your own profile. I guess Cinestyle is just a bad one when it comes to noise in the shadows which is already a weak point for the M50.

Let me get this straight, we must import the video at 30fps, into a project/timeline that is set at 30 or 24fps, correct? What we shouldn't do is use everything at 30fps and when exporting, set it to 24fps? so we would then have cut frames?

Hi I'm new to this and just got the m50 and when I change the settings it doesn't show up on my screen. So the image will look one way on the screen but when I take the picture it will be brighter or darker depending on the settings. Do you know how to fix this so what I see is what I take? Thanks for your video man! So, lets see if I got your point. It's better to shoot in 30/60 fps and slow it down in your editor then to it in the other way (shoot in 24 and try do up for 60 fps in the editor). Am I right? Im still learning all these fps, editor, footage and all that stuff so why I'm a bit confused :D

Ideally always shoot in the frame rate of your final result. If your timeline and final render is 24fps then shoot 24fps for real time footage and higher frame rates for slow motion. But like I said: "Ideally". You could shoot 60 fps and drop it on a 24 timeline without slowing it down but then frames will be removed and you might get weird effects and jitters.

Yeah the 30FPS tip was very challenging to follow. I guess what you are saying is Shoot in 30fps, and render the Vid in 30fps. Or did I get it wrong ????

You advise 30fps but what about flicker of the background lights? Shouldn't we in Europe use 25fps due to 50hz electricity? If you use quality lighting it doesn't matter but if we video on location or using regular lamps as practicals, they will flicker. In USA 30fps is great, but in Europe, I am not sure. What is your experience with this issue?

It's not the frame rate but the shutter that causes the problem. In Europe you can shoot 30fps with a shutter of 1/50 to avoid the flicker. Of course the motion blur will be the same as if you were shooting 24fps but you do avoid the stutters you get if you play the footage on 60hz screens. Dude, you really don't need a higher framerate to allow for fast shutter speeds, you don't always have to follow the 180 rule

True but if you want to avoid 3/2 pulldown you have to increase the frame rate to 30... Edit: and the 180 rule always looks better. But that's subjective I guess 😎 Maybe in specific situations it's OK 🤔 I wouldn't try it when shooting for serious clients though.
