Definitely one of my favorite interviews too. I think he's gotten too much of a bad rep, as we all found out through this interview that a lot of those stories that gave him a bad rep the stories was was exaggerated and in some cases straight bs. Not saying he didnt have his fair share of fuck ups but not to the extent that his rep made it seem like.

For those who don’t realize... 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in a single season is a fucking ridiculously hard thing to accomplish. Canseco was the first one to ever achieve it and only 3 have followed him. No player of the 4 ever did it more than once.

Jose doesn't mention the fact that he lead the league in SO in '98, or that he batted only .237 and failed to crack the top ten in any meaningful offensive categories outside home runs. The reason why they asked him to stop stealing bases was probably because of his HIGH caught stealing rate, not to keep him from going 40/40.

No doubt! He fails to mention that his ratio that season was 29/46 on stolen bases = 63% & all analysts say any ratio less than 74-75% is costing your team runs. Not to mention his last stolen base was late August. He wasn’t even close...🤷🏼♂️

I was one of his biggest fans, when he was in Oakland from 1985-1992. I liked him less as time went on. He was disaster in right field, he was in constant trouble off of the field and always had some kind of drama. When the Athletics traded him I was glad. When I read his first book, I had to sieve through it, because a lot of it was fabrication.

He looks 56 to me. Not everyone looks 35 in their 50’s man. Don’t let Hollywood and social media fool you. Those people do plastic surgery, make up, good lighting and post production edits. Sun exposure, stress, getting old will make you look older. Doing steroids at his doses doesn’t help. He isn’t under great lighting, not wearing make up. He looks average for his age. He just isn’t shaved, he’s sweating from the lights. It’s clear he has a tan and some sunburn. He really doesn’t rough.

I can't even take listening to this nonsense. A team isn't going to purposely screw themselves over by not playing a killer hitter because they're trying to conform to a league-wide push to get rid of a player. Why would they sign him to begin with? By the time he was 35, all the injuries and roids had made him a shadow of what he was.

Oh sure they can especially in this situation, because he blew the whistle on the 'roid issue. The league lost a ton of $$$ because of Canseco. Ratings and attendance plummeted because of this. He had to be punished as far as they were concerned. The MLB brass has a long standing reputation of pettiness.

@@tayrulez I guess all this would make sense if this didn't specifically coincide with a deep dip in his production. If he went from 43 HR to the MLB putting him on ice, I'd be all-aboard. But by the time in question, he was an aging injury-prone player demanding a lot of money who was a major distraction and a locker room cancer. Players get iced out for a lot less than that.
