I got to visit the Miami Marlins organization up close after being a long time season ticket holder. While walking down the hallway at like 6:30, Jose came by, stopped and just started walking and talking with me. He talked about how great it was to be in the MLB. There was no fanboying with Jose. In fact, when he went you, YOU felt like the celebrity.

This is heart wrenching. Only other time I cried when an athlete died was when Oscar Taveras passed away (I'm a Cardinals fan). My wife woke me up Sunday to the news that Jose passed away because she knew I'm a big fan of his. I had to fight back tears. That whole morning was so unreal to me. This video brought me to tears and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Jose was so full of life and a genuine human being. Not to mention he was a one in a million talent. Anytime I watched him pitch, it was like a privilege. I knew I was watching greatness. Still can't believe he's gone. RIP Jose Fernandez. You will forever have a special place in the heart of this Cardinals fan, and I'm sure with the rest of Cardinals nation as well.

Making the sacrifice to leave his family for a better and successful future was a hard decision to make. Glad he realized his talent at a young age.
