I translated using google translate, (and I changed some parts) is very accurate but I think each language has a beauty so when a song is translated is so different. But I hope it helps you to understand it. Jose Jose was an idol in Mexico, lovely man. JOSE JOSE EL TRISTE (the sad man) How sad it was to say goodbye When we loved each other more Until the swallow emigrated Heralding the end How sad everything looks without you The seas of the beaches leave The colors of gray are dyed Today everything is loneliness I don't know if I'll see you again later I don't know what my life will be Without the blue star of your being That doesn't light me anymore Today I want to taste my pain I don't ask for compassion or mercy The story of this love was written For eternity How sad everyone says that I am I'm always talking about you You don't know what thinking of your love, your love I have been able to help myself I have been able to help myself Oh oh oh oh Oh oh oh oh Today I want to taste my pain I don't ask for compassion or mercy The story of this love was written For eternity How sad everyone says that I am I'm always talking about you You don't know what thinking of your love, your love I have been able to help myself to live I have been able to help myself to live I have been able to help myself to live

Can you believe that this was actually his first time singing in front of a crowd? This was a yearly songwriting competition similar to Eurovision song contest that used to be held up until the late 80s. Each year there was a theme, and songwriters from all over Latin America would send in their compositions and select any singer they wanted to interpret it in front of the judges and audience. Can you believe he came in third place due to a technicality? His song did not adhere to the theme of that year's contest. P.s. All of the people in the audience looking dumbfounded and in awe of his performance, they were all well established singers and performers in the Latin American music industry, all amazed by the vocal prowess of this kid from Mexico City that no one had even heard of before. The only reason they cheered for him in the beginning was because he was representing Mexico in the contest. By the end, they were cheering for him only.

Sam, thank you so VERY much for doing this. This song means a lot to me and my father's relationship. A few background facts: Jose's father was a tenor opera singer, but Jose himself had no professional training of any kind. Yet, emotionally, he connected with every song, stemming from his complicated relationship with his parents, and the fact that Jose was very shy and struggles being such a public figure, which, in turn, made us all connect with our own emotions in a very raw way. I recommend you listen to "la nave del olvido" and get an translation of those lyrics so you can enjoy fully appreciate that song. Thanks again from the bottom of my heart. I was in tears!

Well in Spanish there are only 5 vowels, so they boundaries are wider,. A close or round o, or an open o don´t affect the meaning of the word. Unfortunately José José's voice got damaged due to alcohol (lots of it) and his lasts years as a singer wasn't even the tiniest bit of his early years, he died this year but he let a great legacy behind. "en vivo" means live and is not part of the title of the song, you probably know that already but just in case you don't lol

I was almost praying you had done Jose Jose’s “el triste”...thanks, but I must confess that what I enjoy most is your commentary in all your videos, your facial expressions and knowledgeable critique just priceless!

I really get exited when you get exited 🤣 even though I dont understand too much about music I love your videos. José José has a voice that give me gusponms every time I heard a song of his. Can you analyze Marc Anthony- Preciosa? He is one of the most famous salsa singer in Puerto Rico.

The point you hit on about knowing what something feels like to know how to do it, this is lost on a lot of teachers. Great artist choice.

I think it would be cool if you reacted to Luis Miguel “La Bikina” and possibly compared it to his most recent performance of it. I know one of the main points you make, is about making sure the way that we sing things have a good shelf life and longevity. I think Luis Miguel’s two separate performance would be a great way to demonstrate just that! Ps. I honestly love your analyzation of the videos you’re reviewing . 🙌🏻👏🏻💛

Of all the songs you could review, this video of Jose Jose, one of my favorites, it's the last I expected. Thank you! If I had to choose a video for you to review, I would say: Tonada de Cabestero - Simón Díaz HD

Lately there's been a lot of English speakers reacting to old music in Spanish, they kind my parents used to listen. It has made me realize how good those singers were. Before I was just meh it's nice, old music. Specially Rocío Durcal singing "Amor Eterno" (a song Juan Gabriel wrote when his mom died), and Camilo Sesto singing Getsemaní (Gethsemane from Jesus Christ superstar)

And, again, one of the greatest mysteries in music history: how on Earth he didn't get the first place?!!! He was in a contest!

Because it was a SONG contest, not a SINGERS contest.

They say it's bad luck to win first place. Most of those artist never go on to make it. Third place is supposed to be the best spot you can get. Shakira, not saying she has anywhere near as good a voice as Jose Jose, won third place in a competition and look at her now.

You are very to point, and you inspire people to sing. About Jose Jose His father was an important opera singer, his mother when younger and a classical pianist. He inherit their voice and musical talents and became in short time the biggest star in the Americas Spain and beyond for couple of decades and adored until he passed away as his talent and heart and humanity were at the same level.
