Have to understand the time when all this happen, it wasn't fashionable to admire a black person (mulatto) if you will, in fact using the word mulatto was highly offensive in those days, ashame he was overlooked

I've heard rumour that it was because after Napoleon became Emperor of France and ended the Republic (the story I always heard somehow was that he'd as good as crowned himself Emperor) he reinstated many of the laws about slavery and the rights of "people of colour" that France had had before the revolution and restricted performances and playing of Bologne's music.

It is white washing of history, and a misunderstanding of who Mozart was, not to mention a complete cliché to describe Joseph as a Black Mozart. Mozart was largely unappreciated in his lifetime, and his fame developed after his death. That cannot be said of Chevalier, who was largely forgotten and who has only in the last decade has gained any attention from classical institutes. If he was a Mozart, then there would be just as many performances of his music and books on Chevalier, but there isn’t. Where is his Marriage of Figaro, or 40th Symphony? Mozarts music was so good that it had to be heard, and I regret that all composers who are lost history are lost because their music simply was not worth the preservation. He was a mixed race composer, who was until recently was forgotten and has been revived with the push of classical performers to diversify their programming. That isn’t to say he is a bad composer; far from it, just listen to the concerto from this video, but he is a far-cry from Mozart.

Actually Mozart was younger then George and had taken a lot of his Melodic ideas and incorporated them into his concertos for example min 5:23-5:26 scaling up to the high note then immediately dropping down to the lower end of the violin belongs to Maestro St George👍🏾.
@bartwentink2189
@bartwentink2189 Жыл бұрын
@TheCoastermann Saint-George's music was not lost because "it was not worth the preservation," but because it was actively suppressed during the first empire. Mozart himself acknowledged Saint-George's greatness and his influence on him by quoting this concerto in his Sinfonia Concertante, which was written just after Mozart was forced to leave Paris due to his mother's failing health, cutting short his collaboration with Saint-George. It is estimated that up to 75% of his works were lost during the 1st Empire.
