I was born in Bruges in 1940 and I knew Joseph Ryelandt. In old age he still regularly attended concerts

Ryelandt's goal was to create beautiful music with personality, and he certainly did so in this symphony. The 'adagio's reverent tone with its' Brucknerian horns is perhaps the high point; the 'allegretto' sounds kindred to the third movement of Brahms' 1st and 3rd Symphonies; the finale brings this impressive work to a festive conclusion.

The headlights are very sensibly switched, the impressive horns and the tiny solo violin equally pumped up by the moving forward of the choir of violins ... Definitely a masterpiece !
