For anyone wondering, Joe talked about the Witcher 3 video a little while ago on the stream and why it's taking so long, and all he could say is that the delay has nothing to do with the video itself and hasn't for a long time. He isn't suffering from creative burnout either, he's still just as excited to release it and have people watch it as he was when he first started the project. There's just something else that's been preventing him from releasing it that he can't talk about, which I assume is some IRL or family stuff. He dropped some pretty damn heavy stuff just a little while later like how sometimes he disassociates so hard from either a lack of sleep due to his narcolepsy or if he gets too wrapped up in a project that he legitimately can't recognize his wife and kids. So given just how all consuming this Witcher 3 vid has become... I don't doubt the possibility that it's impacted his life pretty heavily and the delay is an affect of that, though that might be ruled out by the "the delay has nothing to do with the video itself" thing. He did say that it will be out this year no matter what, though. It'll be out even if he has to release it unfinished, I believe. If he doesn't, he's deleting his channel and entire online presence. I don't know if that was a joke or if he was serious about it, but he sounded pretty serious about it, and this isn't the first time he's said that. I think he's remained consistent about that for around 2 months at least. The Witcher 3 video either comes out this year or it's all over. We'll just have to wait and see what happens. EDIT: It's reached the "spectacle" level of wait for me now, like the Winds of Winter or Doors of Stone, lmao.

CDPR's Red Engine struggles with applying full schedules to NPCs. You'd need to go in and practically do it by hand. You also can't interact with objects unless they're pre-made to. Wheras Creation and Radiant AI are much more straightforward to apply. You can also spawn a fork on a table and go in to pick it up with no further development whereas RED needs further work. RED 3 is also such a pain to mod that most modders prefer RED 2. Unreal, according to Bioware, is also a really limited engine when it comes for big RPGs. They had to basically build all the infrastructure themselves and "duct tape" it to Unreal. And had to do it again for Frostbite. Also, even modders have been arguing that Creation is a good Engine for Bethesda to keep using. It just needs to be updated.

There is a neat little detail between the first and second game and i don't know if you got it because you never mentioned it. So in the first game when you meet Berengar and fight along side with him, he will mock Geralts fightingstyle and points out a weakness. When Geralt spins, he is holding his sword to high, leaving his hip unprotected. Geralt dismisses this. In the second game during the last cut-scene when Geralt fights Letho in Loc-Muinne, Letho exploids this exact weakness proving that Berengar was right. Letho was smart enough to spot Geralts weakness just like Berengar in such a short amount of time.

I'd argue that the only reason Witchers get away with spinning so much during combat is because they know the universe's jank physics will let them turn 180 degrees in one frame to guard their back if necessary. Geralt has clearly forgotten about this technique due to his amnesia.
@theworstcatholic72474 жыл бұрын
@@andrew_cunningham I know this is a joke, but in reality the witcher style is terrible(for battling humanoids anyways), however I just imagine that it's due to the fact they were made to hunt monster not people, along with the fact their superhuman speed and reflexes let's them get away with a lot more stupid moves that would get any normal human killed in their first duel. So it's actually logical that fighting against someone who is as fast would exploit silly moves like spinning.

I got the impression that both Geralt and Roche knew Ves was raped; they just didn't want to say it. Also, it always struck me as odd that Henselt didn't have Ves killed anyway. FYI, in the No Clip documentary about the Witcher Series, Remembering The Witcher 1 & 2 it's telling how the devs did not want to talk much about The Witcher 2, most of the video is fondly discussing the Witcher 1. I think the team at CD Projekt Red were left deeply frustrated, traumatized and maybe even depressed for life by the hand fate dealt them during the Witcher 2 development, felt almost like taboo topic during the interviews. They just talked about how the 2007 subprime financial crisis crushed the company and nothing about the actual Witcher 2 game production, story or game mechanics, nada. Because remember that development of Witcher 2 started circa 2008 at the height of the sub prime financial crisis, and all the investors they had lined up after the sleeper hit that was Witcher 1 bailed on them. They ran out of money, had a lot of debt too and no one would loan them, they could not levy any funds even if they wanted to sell most of the shares of the company. So they had to rush the Witcher 2, it crushed their vision for that specific game, therefore it feels incomplete, amputated, murdered! Knowing this now, the Witcher 2 is to me, the MOST IMPRESSIVE one of the series. The fact that they pulled such a jump in quality flabbergasted me back in 2011. I mean despite the horrible situation the devs were in, what CD Projekt pulled off is SUPERHUMAN, I've never seen such a feat since The Elder Scrolls III Morrowind when Bethesda would go bust if they failed. The Red Engine was the real deal, the improvement in graphics, animations, presentation, scope and size of the levels, the world design, the voice acting, the mocapped cutscenes, improved dialogue mechanics (timers etc) and STORY (Felt very GoT with all the political intrigue, was a novelty back in 2011) from Witcher 1 to Witcher 2 is massive. As flawed as the Witcher 2 is, it moved up the franchise to the big leagues, it feels like a revolution of the series and all that on a shoestring budget! The jump from Witcher 2 to 3 is not that mind boggling to me it's a refinement and expansion of the Witcher 2 stepping stone, if you look closely the aesthetics and monster/world/character design language is the same as the Witcher 2. Yeah Witcher 3 is a far better game, but not as impressive to me because Witcher 3 was developed when finally all the conditions were reunited for CD Projekt, thanks in no small part to the Witcher 2 financial success. The Wild Hunt was CD Projekt's perfect storm. But if the financial crisis of 2007 did not sink the Witcher 2 boat, I bet they would have ironed out the bugs and glitches, fix the interface, polished the presentation to be even better, tighten up the story loopholes (some are so glaring and obvious it's clear they had no time to correct them), refine the gameplay and combat system a lot, and most importantly there would have been a lot more content in chapters 2 and 3. Lastly, I've always felt that White orchard prologue belonged in Witcher 2 as an epilogue, a cliffhanger with Geralt finally reuniting with Yennefer would have been perfect ending and set up for the Witcher 3 the Wild Hunt. (Edit: On request I paragraphed this comment, did not expect people to like it so much, cheers.)

At the end of the day it's a lesson in "dont let perfection stand in the way of pretty good". He prolly could have released that version he had in december 2020 and later could have made an update on anything he thought needed changing. This comment won't probably be read by anyone since the video is already - let me see - a month old. Nonetheless, I thought it was important enough to talk about Letho's remark "I know his weakness". I played Witcher 2 with the original polish dub, now, I am no Pole but from what I heard, Letho doesn't imply that he has Geralt's kryptonite at all. In fact, he says "Znam sposób na Geralta", which should have been translated as "I know a way how to handle him" or "I know a way how to get through to him". It's a case of grievous mistranslation. What seems like an old friend's (to an extent) benign remark ends up being an ominous threat leading nowhere. I also suspect the Jaskier line is also caused by the translator failing in recognizing the nuance. I am by no means trashing the translator, imagine getting the script and not having the slightesst clue as to what the context is. Horrible and underpaid work.

I very much enjoyed Assassin of Kings first time I played it and even intend to give a go for another playthrough, but at least I'm forewarned against its flaws and could temper my expectations a bit. To be perfectly honest, I kinda prefer tighter story-focused pacing of W2 over open world meandering of Wild Hunt. W2 gave me very compelling reasons, why I couldn't and shouldn't just go and leave towards the next part of my objective. First keiran and preparation to that battle, then cursed battlefied and preparation to that excursion. I love the lands they have created in Wild Hunt, but I was constantly bombarded with map activities, tasks, little comedy skits, Geralt's companions personal quests, while the urgent goal to find *and help* Ciri was constantly pushing me forward, without knowing, which side quests might end up being crucial to the main plot, that I spent most of my walkthrough in a constant cognitive dissonanse. It took me three years to finish the game. I enjoyed pacing of B&W and HoS much more in that regard and still venture into Redania, occasionaly, to uncover more of the map (Toussaint and Skellige are my landscape-porn of choice, though).

You sounded pretty frantic at the end and I just want to remind you not to push yourself over your limits. The last thing we want is for you to lose your passion over these videos and KZbin in general. I absolutely love your content and would hate to see you leave because you lost the spark. Take care of yourself, king. The video itself was very entertaining, like everything else you put out. I'm still baffled he didn't play these games with the Polish dub. It's like watching [insert popular anime here] with the English dub. I mean, it's possible but it seems reckless.
@hundvd_74 жыл бұрын
@@ThePreciseClimber I'm a hardcore sub fan. I have never seen an anime dub that isn't inferior to the original. (Ghost Stories is an exception, obviously). Yet, I've always played the Witcher games in English, and I have no desire whatsoever to replay any of them in Polish. I am biased - I am definitely a weeb - but I have my objective reasons, too. 1) Anime is made by the Japanese, for the Japanese, in Japanese. English is an afterthought, it's 100% outsourced and almost always hands-off. It also only happens to those that will presumably be successful enough with the international community. Most games release with multiple language options already implemented, as opposed to them being added later. Getting them translated is a clear focus. 2) The anime dubbing industry is a much more closed system than its games industry equivalent. We joke about Troy Baker and Nolan North voicing half the characters in games. And that's for good reason, sometimes it really feels like that. But it is _so much worse_ with anime dubs. About 40 people account for what feels like 90% of all main _and_ supporting characters. And I'm sorry, but those "stars" just aren't that good. 3) Games are far more profitable. Therefore, companies involved in their distribution are willing to spend more money to get it right for their target audiences. 4) Japanese English translation is really hard. Polish English isn't. And let me clarify that this problem isn't completely unique to anime, movies have the same - albeit more subdued - problem. I haven't watched a dubbed movie for more than half my life now. They are just so much worse. Video games are the exception, actually. And there's another reason, too, specifically about this game. 5) The world of the Witcher does not explicitly speak Polish. I don't lose immersion from hearing people speak English. In games like Assassin's Creed II, it could be argued that the real way to play it is in Italian, because people in Firenze actually speak that language. The people of Flotsam don't.
@ThePreciseClimber4 жыл бұрын
@@hundvd_7 > Anime is made by the Japanese, for the Japanese, in Japanese Well, Witcher 1 was absolutely made by the Polish for the Polish in Polish. The Polish market was their primary focus and hope for commercial success. Just like with old Ubisoft games developed in France (not Canada), you can tell they are distinctly... national. Polish to English translation is fairly hard. The Japanese is just hard-er. > The world of the Witcher does not explicitly speak Polish Well, neither does any fantasy world from any anime. The world of FMA is not explicitly Japanese. Neither is the world of One Piece (it's a random mish-mash of lots of nationalities). Nor the world of Berserk. And Attack on Titan. And Made in Abyss. Et.c, etc. Actually, the world of the Witcher is more Polish than those anime worlds are Japanese. It's clearly inspired by Slavic lore and fables. Just like Quest for Glory 4. It may not be so prominent in W2 but it's very much visible in W1 & W3.
@Phea74 жыл бұрын
@@hundvd_7 1. And CD Project's writers write the dialogues in Polish without thinking about translations. Plus Witcher is based on Polish book series.
@hundvd_74 жыл бұрын
@@ThePreciseClimber > The Polish market was their primary focus Yeah, for the first game this is absolutely the case. However, I still think they focused more on the international market than almost any anime. Anime dubs aren't even made by the same people whatsoever. Not even the publisher is involved - beyond the basics. In contrast, the first game had some sloppy translation in places, but they actually remedied that in the Enhanced version. > Polish to English translation is fairly hard I mean, I'm sure it is, but I don't think it compares. And I'm talking about professional translation, not learning. That would make it curbstomp. However I cannot find any reliable source on the former, so let me just say this: I'm half French, and half Hungarian, and I speak some Spanish and Japanese, too. French, Spanish English is easy-peasy for the most part. Hungarian English is more difficult, though I still wouldn't call it nearly as bad as Japanese. And I'd assume Polish is in the same ballpark as that. >Well, neither does any fantasy world from any anime Totally true. I didn't explain it well, but the reason I brought it up is because while the world oozes Slavic energy - the spoken language _technically_ isn't Polish.

I can kinda understand why you said you didn't liked this video, but I think it's a perfect analysis of what the game is and thorough enough that even I that have 200+ hours in each of these games am still surprised by details I've missed. 5 hours really is succinct for all that can be said about these games, and I'm sad that this ambition grew so large that it burst the balloon in flames with Cyberpunk 2077... About Saskia's last scene. I think something went wrong with English translation, but in Polish version (and it's original one) Saskia says to Geralt "you will be always a welcome guest at Vergen", and Geralt response is normal as well. So she's absolutely friendly in Polish version (and doesn't mention dwarves as well), so I don't know why translators decided to change this scene that drastically.

I like how they did it in 3. :) Models are still reused heavily, but specific faces aside (fuck you vampire as first example) it takes you a while to notice. I believe the "I know his weakness" line from Letho has to do with a pirouette move in the witcher moveset, which Letho believes Geralt cannot do because he had injured one of his legs in the past. Thats why in the final fight with Letho, Geralt pulls off a move that catches Letho off guard and disarms him, because somehow Geralt was healed from that injury and performed a move Letho did not think he could do. Then again, last I played TW2 was years ago, so this might be mistaken.

Not that literally anyone on the planet cares about this but me, but the Roche face morph thing is pretty easily explainable. Animators usually have a bone called an Origin/Root that they animate to align collision, and if it pops for a few frames due to an oversight then the game will suddenly believe that character is really far away and will replace the model with a lower level of detail version to save on processing. There could be other causes than an animator made a mistake, but I feel like it's the most likely one and even then it is most probably a level of detail issue.
