I've watched you Joe, with Sherni, Boss, Lea and the rest of the dogs and minks (Go Boon! lol) for a very long time, I think this is the first time I can even say anything about Sherni...the night I watched you first announce her passing I broke into tears and could not believe what happened...gulp, very rough on me, and I know all of us, I think now I can watch her without getting so emotional...good stuff Joe, stay safe!

Joe you and your family can rest assured that Sherni lived life as a dog should. She wore so many hats from savage hunter to her more important jobs tending to the girls and being such a great teacher to them even at her young age. In my opinion I’d rather see a dog have a short but full life rather than a long dull and unfulfilled life. I’m still so sorry for such a loss like this but I’m happy to see that her memory will always live on through these awesome videos. I wish I had a vault of videos of my past pups. Boss has got to be your best dog for ratting. He’s agile, strong, fast, endurance…. What’s his breed/mix? Any reason he never gets to muskrat? Also which one is the brown boss look alike? Looks like some sort of greyhound mix? I love how your minks work in tangent with the dogs! Has any of your dogs ever tried attacking the minks?
@sufferinsilence58172 жыл бұрын
He's mentioned this a couple times in random videos, if I remember correctly he's about 1/4 greyhound, 3/4 whippet and just a little bit of pit bull
@alexisgrunden15562 жыл бұрын
The cross is called a Lurcher, for Boss specifically a Bull Lurcher. It means he's mostly Greyhound, but the Bull part comes from being 1/4 Pitbull, which is why he's just a tiny bit beefier than your average Greyhound. The added muscle mass helps to give him just a tiny bit more strength and endurance than a Greyhound, too. I believe the brown one is similar; another Lurcher, if not a Bull Lurcher (need to double-check). I think (again, not certain) Boss prefers to avoid muskrats because he hates mud. _That_ I am certain of; for whatever reason, that dog just despises deep mud, and hates having to go into any stretch of mud deeper than his ankles, and at his size? On a muskrat hunt, he'd sink straight into the streambeds. I don't _think_ any of his dogs have ever tried to attack a mink? But I know that some of them (Sherni, for one) were standoffish with them at best, because they got bit as pups and remembered that. So those dogs would work with the mink, but it was a cooler, more professional relationship, not all buddy-buddy.

@@alexisgrunden1556 the brown dog on the other side of the fence is (if I remember correctly) pure greyhound. her name is Lilly. she is a professional spectator, unfortunately. so she ended up as someone's pet. sweet dog, weak prey drive. I believe Boss' advantage comes from the pitbull fearlessness and, as you mentioned, extra bulk. but the athleticism of the greyhound and whippet side of Boss is amazing. I love watching Boss work!
@alexisgrunden15562 жыл бұрын
@@mdotguy LOL, _mea culpa;_ my bad~ I do love that about Grehounds, though; they are some of the sweetest things on 4 legs. A Greyhound that loves you would happily throw itself off a cliff to save you, and they are Velcro dogs and cuddlebugs

One of the members of my church needs you so bad. We have routine "rat killings" at his place. He raises all kinds of birds and the rats have huge numbers of tunnels under the ground in and around. He lost all of his quail, most of his young pheasants, and now they have even started in on the full grown chickens. They will kill most anything. We got over 200 last time. That just just running them out with a hose and missing a ton with "standers" with sticks. He is at his wits end. Poison ☠️ doesn't work. Nothing else manual does. You can sit out on his deck and they will come out at dusk and graze on the grass and whatever they find. It's nuts.
