"make sure you are running a 90 degree shutter angle at 60p" - no, you should not be doing this. Set it to 180 for any frame rate you are shooting since 180 degrees is based off an equation for whatever shutter speed you have it set to. For example , (60 x 360) / 180 = 120, and 1/120 slowed to 40% for a 24p timeline = 1/48.
@Faymusmedia8 жыл бұрын
I did make an error. It was a long day. The proper shutter angle for 1/120 shutter is 72 degrees.
@wyattvisuals8 жыл бұрын
Faymusmedia no problem, but that's not how you set it on this camera. You set it to 180 degrees on any frame rate. You'll notice that it is working properly as the image will get darker (from changing the frame rate from 24 to 60 for example).
@yurednaxela7 жыл бұрын
The very reason why I looked down to this comment section is to see one of these comments above.. Isn't the purpose of shutter angle is to maintain it to 180 degrees and let it do its job no matter what frame rate you set with? "The proper shutter angle for 1/120 shutter is 72 degrees." - makes me confuse again.. One thing just to be safe, if not sure if its a fact, better not say it for your own good and for others too.
@TonyDupre7 жыл бұрын
No, FaymusMedia is correct. However, it all depends on how much motion blur you want. For a standard amount of blur, the angle should correlate to what double the framerate is in shutter speed (like 1/120). However, for less blur for action shots, you want a small angle. Some guys will even shoot a scene at 45 degrees to get almost zero blur. Watch American Crime Story for an example.

My camera, an Arriflex film camera, has a fixed shutter angle of around 173 degrees.

I added an Arri rosette attachment on 15mm rails off the front to move the LANC grip further forward, that helps a lot with comfort or long, hand-held shoots.
@torjohansen40868 жыл бұрын
Hey Corey - I enjoyed your review of the 4.6K. A couple notes, native ISO is 800, not 400 as you mention. The grip can be mounted lower and further out if you connect the arri-rosette to the base of the shoulder mount (you had it connected to the side of the camera). Hard to tell from the video, but you SHOULD be able to mount the shoulder pad further back. It's funny because most people have commented that they want it to go more FORWARD to accommodate heavier glass. You said you wished the EVF displayed your histogram, it does. EVF menu: Display: Meters: Histogram. Oh and: how are you going above 1600 ISO on the UM4.6K and BMCC?
@Faymusmedia8 жыл бұрын
I will have to correct that. I don't know why I said 400. As all their cameras except production camera are native 800. I am adding 1 stop exposure increments in post. I tried using the histogram setting in he menu it didn't work, maybe it was just acting buggy? Not sure.

Great review Cory. Also, it looks like the Canon C300 Mark II and the Blackmagic URSA mini 4.6k match up pretty well. Keep it up. I look forward to your reviews to give me a real world view on cameras, and I look forward to Christopher Frost when I need a real world view on lenses. Between you two, I don't think I can ever go wrong when buying a camera or lens. Maybe you can make another short video just pointing out any errors there may be in this one.

It would be good to compare the URSA mini pro on rolling shutter with the canon C300 mk 2. The German test and one other on KZbin showed no rolling shutter.
@starkeyluv8 жыл бұрын
+Faymusmedia The handle isn't long enough, because you have the extension arm mounted to the regular side handle mount. I did the same thing when I got the shoulder mount kit and thought that it was uncomfortable. If you move it down to the rosette mount on the side of the shoulder mount kit, it sits out way further and is a lot more comfortable.
@FritzelMedia7 жыл бұрын
Why do you suggest having a 90 degree shutter for 60p? Since the shutter angle is based on the frame rate, won't having a 180 degree shutter get you the 1/120 shutter speed you want?

@anthonyadedeji91356 жыл бұрын
Hello.. Please I bought a BlackMagic URSA mini 4.6K for a friend on my last trip to the US, she called me today that the camera isn't showing options to shoot in 4.6K just options for 4K, I went to check the camera myself and 4.6K option isn't on the recording menu at all just the option for 4k, she actually has 2 URSA mini 4.6K and the other one is showing options for it in comparison. I actually believe it is the settings on the camera or maybe the camera has to be updated but she is really worried and probably thought I bought her a fake camera even when 4.6k is written on the camera, Blackmagic is closed for the weekend so I can't reach them... Please what do you think could be hiding the options to shoot 4.6k...

ALSO - YOU MOUNTED THE ARM TO THE WRONG SPOT. THERE IS ANOTHER MOUNTING POINT (METAL ROSETTE) ON THE SHOULDER MOUNT ITSELF. THAT WOULD HAVE SOLVED ALL YOUR PROBLEMS. You really should read the manual before doing a review on a product. This is one of the most comfortable and balanced setups on the market when used properly.

Broodje Aap Film - didn't mean to shout. My apologies. Your reviews are very entertaining and very well done, i watched the entire thing. Great job and keep it up. But for god sakes - get your specs and information correct before posting a review video as you sound very convincing and people will listen. You're going to mess with people's decision to buy products based on incorrect info. Perhaps correct the information on KZbin using subtitles so people aren't thrown. (Especially changing shutter angle - this causes all sorts of issues) Anyway. Great job on the video. Sorry for shouting. Keep it up. Cheers brother -rats

Hello thanks very much for the great work and tips. I need your advice. I am planning on buying a new Ursa mini 4.6k (non pro for almost half price than the pro version) here in the UK by end of May 2018 which is on a killer sale offer but for the PL mount version only as PL lenses seem to be more expensive and people buy more of the EF versions due to the vast and cheaper EF lens options. I can only find Samyang Xeen 's and Slr Magic lenses in PL mount in the UK which are still expensive and Xeens give a greenish tinge and slr magic seems just okay hence now I am thinking to buy this camera with EF mount which is £1000 more than PL version (: and buy sigma art 18-35 1.8 lens to begin with. My main interest is feature films for which I want to get this camera. Are Xeens and slr magic really worth? Kindly advice which mount would be better and why. I have very tight budget though. Would you still buy ursa mini 4.6k (non pro for half it's original price) in mid 2018. BMPCC 4K is coming but still far. Thanks very much for your support. Regards.

exFAT is not "crummy", it is simply a proprietary file format from Microsoft. Its only 10 years old and Microsoft has heavy patents and enforces licences for the technology which keeps it from being tested and improved by more people. One should always be careful with media, no matter which format. If you use an OSX operating system, HFS+ may be a better option for you, but exFAT is completely supported in OSX.
@Faymusmedia7 жыл бұрын
exFAT is unreliable. I have been shooting film and video for 15 years. I can tell you that its a non journaled file system. Nobody, I mean nobody in hollywood is shooting in exFAT for a major motion picture. RED file system is journaled, HFS+ is journaled, NTFS is journaled. Since most if not all proprietary file systems are Journaled. The fact that exFAT is not, is a issue. I do recommend alot of care when ejecting a exFAT card. I have seen many cards lose all data on exFAT.
@brandonlashes7 жыл бұрын
Faymusmedia I agree don't use exfat

How can it compare with Sony fs7?
@noahfierravanti20396 жыл бұрын
Isn't it dumb to compare the prices between Blackmagic and RED when making different setups? Yes an URSA Mini 4.6k with Shoulder Mount, EVF, Battery Plate, Batterys and CFast Cards will cost you up to 8000 or in 2017 probably up to 10,000$ and close to the cost of a RED Scarlet Dragon 5k. But thats only the body for 12,500$... When getting the same Items on the official RED website you have to pay 26,500 for the RED with shoulder mount, batteries and mini mags... The EVF is only included in the Cinema Package which would cost 10000$ more but just look it up on google where there are some offerings for about 2500$... Which makes the RED 29,000$ and the BM 10,000$... And only the bodies are RED 12,500$ and BM 5000$... And now you can even use a CFAST to SSD adapter with the BM which is gonna save you a ton of money and unlike RED you can use any 3rd party storage you like... So it would be 512GB SSd = 150$ vs. 460GB Mini Mag = 1,850$... you see BM is realy a better value than RED. I like RED and I know you love Blackmagic so I just wanted to state that I think it's not that easy to say that a RED is a better camera overall because of course... it should be when it costs you three times more... and there is a big price gab so you can't just go for the Scarlet when you have only Budget for an Ursa Mini... In my opinion RED isn't an budget option anymore (maybe to an alexa... but not) compared to the newcomers like BM...
