Thanks Joseph! Great review and useful 10 points to consider. I am going through my first weeks with GFX100S + 80mm + 30mm and your entire series became a perfect guidance.

Excellent review and I like this kind of real-world review. I am considering getting one in the next few months (I currently own Xt3 + GFX-50s combo) and the 100s is very good for me.

Recently, I shot a wedding using just my Olympus om-d em-5 II. Images are fine, no compression needed for people to look those on their phones, tablets, laptops. The couple said they will not be making a photo album, as nobody would really be interested to watch it. I am happy of not needing to lug around a bulky camera for nothing.

Did you test nd filters if you use them? I wonder if some nd filters will ruin the whole idea of all the details that 102mp captures.

Used them routinely with the 100 for landscape with no issues. Details and resolution are untouched with good quality filters. Not yet tried them on my 100s but expect same results

Joseph, excellent feedback , Thank you. Even if you crop 3/4 of the image you still have 25 Mpx image. Unbelievable ... Well all what I need is to invest 10K into the new system..... hehe I like to know a bit more about BW images ... ? If you can tell us ....

Fantastic video and info. It’s great to get a real world review! Compared with your usual system, did you get many images out of focus? This is my biggest issue when using new technology it’s only when u get back to the editing suit when u get the real picture on how good the new gear performs regarding AF,

Joseph, this is a great review! Just what I was looking for. Question, if they had 50S II when you went into this MF would you get the 50SII or 100S?

Do you think the af in low light would be good enough to use for the dancing photos at the reception? I know you didn't really get a chance for this wedding in particular but please test this whenever you're able to!

Will do but in my limited testing on Sat I would say yes, it’s not quite as fast as an XT4 or an OMD but it wasn’t at all bad or unusable.

Great review. Thanks. X100f user, I dream of medium format. I used to like Pro Neg Hi, but I much prefer Astia now. When I look at my Pro Neg Hi photos, I find my daughter very pale, almost sick. With Astia, it looks soft indeed, as indicated by Fuji.

First off let me say, WOW! You and Robin Wong and Peter and a few other people here on KZbin are my m43 resource. I was so surprised to see you with a GFX. But I left a comment on Robin’s channel that Olympus should have done the same thing Fujifilm did. The sensor in the original GFX’s are old sensors. I think Olympus could have given Fujifilm some competition. I think Pentax should have made the 645z a mirrorless camera. You compared the Sony sensor in this camera to the sensors in the PhaseOne camera. Is it that much better noise wise and high iso?

Joe.. Great video and Great advise .. Now if you were in a Church ( and cannot use flash) with not as good light like in your Wedding would the 100S be as good with SAF & CAF. And would you switch to a lens like the 45 2.8 instead of the 32-64 4.0 that is faster or does that really matter with MF. I am coming from a totally m4/3rd background and really relish your opinion since I am very interested in adding the MF system in my wedding photography.

So the hardest part of a wedding in terms of AF is a recessional and if you're in super low light... that could be a bit dicey with the 100s. I wouldn't say it's 100% reliable. After shooting a lot with the system, mostly with the 110mm it's just not always great tracking at a very shallow DOF in low contrast light. What I do love about the 100s is that CAF doesn't tend to be jumpy but at times it just seems to be slow to keep up with the action so what you get is a bunch of frames that are slightly OOF. Of course I'm still tweaking and a lot depends on the technique, light etc. but for the moment I find the OMDs and the Xt4 a bit better at ceremonies.

@@JosephEllisPhotographer Can you tell me why you picked those two particular lenses for the Wedding and which lenses you may be adding in the future for different needs .. and how do you determine what MF lenses to use since every one seems to work and focus deferentially on the 100S. Thanks again

I really appreciate your work man. Can you zoom into the photos to see how the 100mp really works. I shoot with the XT3 and when I zoom in, you know the results I get. I would love to see how it looks when zoomed it to see the promise of the 100mp. Thanks!

Sure, I'm planning a bit more in depth look at 102 vs 26MP this week. In the mean time at the end of my last upload there's a quick comparison of how an Xt4 looks against the 100s

Hello Joseph, great video! I have a question. I have the GF80mm f1.7 lens and I am using the GFX100s body. When in Manual focus for Stills and Movie, I notice that the lens is making sounds as I rotate the focus ring. I know the lens is focus by wire, but was not expecting so much sound. When I played back the recordings I made(without an external mic) I could hear the sound of the lens when focusing (manual). Did you experience this noise during manual focus for stills and/or movie? I am not interested much in taking video with this camera&lens, but even in still setting the manual focusing is loud. The images do look good without any signs of problems associated with the sound. Thank you!

Not sure what you mean but it does fine with HSS and that can be turned to automatic which is nice for fast paced events.

I'm not sure why I am continuing to watch your videos. Lol. I think it's more about how you present things and not just the gear. Also your an awesome wedding photographer. I want to make a prediction that eventually you will replace your Olympus gear with Fujifilm XT series cameras. I've seen you with an X-T4 and you've mentioned it. I know you have used multiple systems that don't have the same color science before you got the GFX but if the Fujifilm does all that you need with the XT and GFX that the Olympus does, why not better your work flow with cameras that give you the same colors? I would continue to follow your channel because I feel like I would be well educated if I would switch cameras.

Hi Joseph! Thanks for sharing your experience. I’m not into wedding photography as I am too stressed to miss capturing some of the key moments that worth remembering of. So I can really appreciate those photographers who can do that and I think you are one of those. Of course I like the shots that were carefully composed and your were in control, but this when you were not also very well captured. I used to have a Fuji camera quite some time ago and although it produced stunning images it was slow and I tend to miss a lot of opportunities. I’m glad that this new system is getting matured enough to avoid that and I hope the glass range will also catch up to fully complement that superb body.

It seems we are becoming just consumers instead of photographers so much time is spent simply talking about cameras nowadays the essence of photography is lost. Using manipulative marketing that appeals to people’s desires making them believe so how they actually need they don’t need.
