I do shoot occasional Weddings with all my Olympus stuff Mii and 1.2 lenses but would love to have such a grand camera to be my main go to. Th images from this camera can be mind blowing. Thanks for giving me more inspiration

No wedding photography here...too high anxiety. But I think all your points are very well made. I do landscape and travel. The combination of a 100s (23+45-100+100-200) and XT4 with 70-300 makes for a kit that is easy to carry around ( fits nicely in my Shimoda 50) and gives me a fantastic focal lens coverage with incredible image quality. If we could only trace, now!!!!!!

How many bodies do you have for a wedding? two GFX and two FF? Asking because I have the GFX100S and I love it, but I also need a faster AF system to make sure I don't miss on the important moments. Do you think it's a good idea to have like just one GFX body (because it's expensive to own two) and two Sony (for redundancy)? Setup to be like GFX with the 32-64 and a FF with 70-200 or GFX with 110mm and Sony with 35-150mm? Thanks!

I'm going with 2 GFX and 2 Fuji XH2s for next year - same battery, similar ergonomics, menus etc makes life easier. I only use GFX 100s for portraits and details so I carry mainly the 32-64 and 110mm during those times and I have a full kit for the X-series for the rest of the day using mainly the 18 & 56 and for ceremonies the 40-150.

Choosing the GFX 100s for bride photos makes perfect sense. But it might be worth mentioning that a large sensor by itself does not help reducing noise and increasing dynamic range. This is only dependent on sensor technology and the bare size of the lens (and thus the amount of light that it leads to the sensor). Talking about noise, obviously the raw processing comes into play. The Xtrans sensors have the disadvantage that they are not supported by the superior PhotoLab denoising. But nevertheless, the GFX cameras will surely deliver a very decent image quality.

Added cost, file size, processing power, time and storage space are huge penalties to pay for what seems like a marginal benefit. It really seems like a solution in search of a problem since weddings have been shot forever without medium format. The number of images that would benefit from this added resolution would take a long time to recover the monetary investment. As they say on shark tank. For this reason I am out.

New subscriber! Great videos! My main concern of upgrading was the 'power' needed for processing the images. Out of interest, what's your PC setup to handle such large files?

You hit the nail on the head. Since it's nearly the same size and price as a "full-frame" camera, but with superior image quality, why would you ever look at anything else if that's your highest metric? Canon, Nikon, and Sony may look like they're in the top spots, but honestly I can't see the point. They're commodity products and those don't thrive in hard times, niche products do. They represent all of the negatives: heavier and more expensive than Olympus, Panasonic, and x-series Fujifilm, but not as good an image as GFX Fujifilm, Hasselblad, or PhaseOne. For me it's Olympus and I'm saving up for the GFX100S

I tested the GFX100S last week and the 110 and 80 lens. While the ergonomics and files are outstanding , the 80/1.7 was really underwhelming , AF-C not reliable at all!The 110/2 is exact but also quite slow in focusing!I can understand that the MD is not for active sports,... , but just wondering how to take pictures of playing children , moving dogs , and celebrating people?

I’ve had good luck with wide area tracking in AFC including face detect. I only have the 110mm and the 32-64 but for my work they seem up to the task.

I'm on Nikon and I really feel like the GFX 100S did in 2021 what the D800 did in 2012 for those wanting high res in a camera that had good af and also wasn't the price and size of a Hasselblad or PhaseOne. The GFX 100, all be it for more money, feels to me like the D3X replacement Nikon shooters never got. The GFX 100S or 100 is the perfect companion camera to something like the upcoming Z9, Canon's equivalent, or Sony A9 series. Add in a Leica M if you have the coin for it or any of the smaller ASP-C or FF MILCs if you don't and/or want AF for a small take every where option and you could be set on cameras for a long time. Unless you really have big money and do enough work that fits within it's size, weight, speed of operation, and AF limitations to justify a Phase One IQ4 system, GFX is the way to go for high res for the foreseeable future.

Do you use the pixel shift for the 400mp files? For me, I would buy this camera for that feature. The ultimate print maker. But, is pixel shift compatible with flash?

So this camera can capture 16 bit images. But continuos shooting at 5fps, it's only capturing 14 but images. 16 bit only for single shoot. I wonder if there is any difference in image quality, so one could decide if sacrificing speed for a bit more image quality is worth it Any thoughts / test on this

Resulting conclusion from a technical analysis by Jim Kasson: "There is a tiny bit more EDR with 16-bit precision." (EDR = Engineered Dynamic Range) blog.kasson.com/gfx-100s/gfx-100s-read-noise-and-edr-vs-iso-setting/

@@jeffkemper8903 Thank you Jeff. Would you please translate for me what that means in less technical words? And what's your opinion
@jeffkemper89033 жыл бұрын
@@FastAkira My understanding of what Jim Kasson's analysis reveals plus what he has to say about the issue, a photographer using a GFX100S in 16-bit precision would get a very slight improvement in dynamic range and only noticeable when the scene being imaged is of high dynamic range. As to whether any particular person could perceive the improvement depends on many factors after the image is captured: how the image is post processed, how the image will be viewed (a print or on screen), the viewer's sensitivity to colors and tone (or interest for that matter), the size of the final image and viewing distance, and so on. A few down sides to 16-bit precision are file size, single shot mode only, capture rate. A photographer in challenging high dynamic range scenes might find 16-bit precision beneficial. I shoot with 14-bit precision on my GFX100 and now on my GFX100S. I have done some personal exploration with 16-bit and didn't really notice a significant difference. However, I do landscape photography and print my work, which reduces dynamic range since papers and inks do not have near the dynamic range of a calibrated monitor. 14-bit files are big in the first place, 16-bit for me just creates larger file sizes with no personal benefit for my work. Of course, this is just my own particular situation and purposes. Hope this response helps.

@@jeffkemper8903 That was really helpful and I've got a clear picture of what you're saying. I guess I'll shoot in 14bit for the 5fps mainly, since I shoot portraits and street photography. Maybe ocasionally, 16bit just to get the maximum quality when speed and file size don't matter. I appreciate your time and kindness Cheers

I appreciate your views on this camera. The fact that I agree with your reasoning and thoughts is inconsequential to their validity.😏 However, I feel you forgot one crucial factor in deciding upon a camera system, THE LENSES! The Fuji GFX lenses are incredibly sharp, have excellent color rendition, and are solidly built for professional use. The focal length range is more than adequate for almost all photographic situations and the availability of zoom lenses, although perhaps not as extensive as smaller sensor cameras are nevertheless an excellent choice for those situations when changing between prime lenses might cost you the opportunity to get the shot, without sacrificing image quality. The only true downside to them, which I feel is actually justified by their coverage of the larger sensor, is their size and the f-stop speed. But considering that they are medium format lenses that have auto focusing and some with image stabilization as well I don’t see any reason to complain. Thanks again for your video and congratulations on your wonderful photos and obvious photographic skill!

@@JosephEllisPhotographer I Understand completely!!! Very biiiiiiiiggggg files!!! But it is the best choice for the situations where the IQ is the most important thing. In my case, with Video, Wildlife, street and Macro, the m43 is perfect. But the Fuji’s are very (VERY) tempting!!!

Nice work and review. I saw the thumbnail image (if that's what it's called) with the silhouetted bride and groom and wondered how you got that sunstar with a GF lens. Turns out you didn't. It was from another camera system. Sunstars are one of the GF lens weaknesses in my experience. I don't believe it was your intention to mislead btw but I don't understand why you would use a non-Fuji image as the thumbnail of your Fuji review. Probably because it's a great looking image, maybe one of your favourites as a guess.
