1:39 - I love how self-aware Josh is. Watch him dampen the snare head going into the next part of the song.

One of the big 3 drummers in punk who are still able to play at the same speed and intensity as 20 years ago and all 3 with the same bands and either just over, at or just under 50. I stopped playing at these sort of speeds a long time ago but age seems not to have affected Josh, Erik and the benchmark for any punk drummer Byron. Where Josh Freese stands out is all the cool stuff he has done outside punk like those great rhythmic beats on NIN and A Perfect Circle for example. That is where you have to have more in your chop box than speed and that is what sets Josh Freese apart from other drummers.

Derrick is one of my favorites, both Derrick and bomber. There's quite a few punk rock drummers that don't really get the recognition they deserve . Derrick's loved by the folks well versed in the genre, as far as drummers are concerned. John wright from the fantastic nomeansno doesn't get brought up, hardly at all, the dude was wonderful, very versatile. Then of course you have jord from propagandhi and Brendan Canty from fugazi too, I could go on and on, so I'll stop there.

Very true. That’s why he’s such a popular studio drummer. Such high demand and part of so many super cool bands. Travis just plays with crap bands and watches tv waiting for the phone to ring.

It's not about being hard to play. It's about how to play tastefully and with the songs without sounding overdone or like a big show off party. Good drummers know that.

Seriously!?! It would take a few minutes to put Josh's equipment list in the description and instead you direct us to your website where it's still not clear what exactly he is using on his kit. Ridiculous laziness by whoever is responsible for this video.
@MatthewParsonsDrumsAndAudio
@MatthewParsonsDrumsAndAudio 7 жыл бұрын
Because there isn't a lot of info about exactly what he uses. I can understand that they could ask him or his tech, but usually that info is readily available online. I do know he plays DW Drums (probably a Collector's Series kit) and Paiste cymbals. Pasta's site has the cymbals he uses on his artist page.

He is using different Remo drumheads because of Backline. We linked it to his profile which at the bottom list all the drumheads he usually uses along with accessories. There is also cards within the video that list the product used. We added drumheads used in the description as well.
@JohnSmith-pp7ux
@JohnSmith-pp7ux 7 жыл бұрын
Remo Inc. I appreciate that he may have some different drumheads than usual at any particular show depending on who is supplying his equipment. I just think that if you're promoting your drumheads (yes, I use Remo drumheads) that making it as easy as possible for consumers to know which heads are being played (or at least which are usually played) will help move more product. For some reason Zildjian also posts these types of videos and also does not list the equipment being used.
@JohnSmith-pp7ux
@JohnSmith-pp7ux 7 жыл бұрын
Matthew Parsons. I am aware that that information may be available somewhere else online, I'm just suggesting that if Remo is using these videos to promote their products they should make it super simple to learn what Remo products the artist is using. It's annoying to have to go hunting for the list of products when the product manufacturer could just spend an extra two or three minutes supplying that list in the description of the video promoting their products. Remo has now done so and hopefully will continue doing so in their future promos.
