It’s a pretty simple equation. Alabama = a place you want to play. DeBoer = a coach you want to play for. Alabama + DeBoer = the ultimate combo when everyone has the money to spend in the SEC NIL game. He could use recent success to catapult himself, but at both Texas and USC he coached with *considerable* talent advantages and this is the first season that he even had a good year. He also went 1-2 against the “good” teams he played this past season. And he also had to play like 5 backup QBs and get a gift to survive UH. Deboer won 11 games then 14 games at a school that we were told Sark did an “amazing” job winning 7 games at. And beat him head-to-head with less talent. LSU on the road is always tough. But that’s a winnable game for them in my opinion. Especially with LSU losing Jayden Daniels I’m not fearing OU at this point. I think Ole Miss and/or Texas would have been tougher games tbh. Tennessee is a toss up. It’s a rivalry game that that bama has dominated in conference. At our other position groups though, there's definitely been coaching upgrades. It seems like since 2020 it's been hard if not impossible for Saban to get the coaching staffs he truly wanted. Whether that's negative recruiting by other staffs based on his age, or guys just not wanting to commit to coach for a guy that might retire soon. Saban was having to coach with assistants below his standard at the end of his career, and he was still dragging the team to National Title contention.
