Vandy beat Bama last week. If they played 100 more times, Alabama would always be favored by a significant margin, even though Vandy beat them. So, Alabama would always be power rated over Vandy.

And if that game happened in Alabama, then some weight for the game takes into account the fact road games are harder than home games. Idk why it gives such a big pass for losing to a less good team like Vanderbilt though. I think that’s also partially why he questions Miami’s placement. Miami has bad moments, but bad moments don’t really tell the whole story and it’s something they should be able to clean up assuming they grasp the issues. Plus it’s not like they’ve actually lost

@@thejewishpeople1970 It's mostly because A: He doesn't think Va Tech is a good football team, or that it was a rivalry game with Miami (which they both are). And B: Miami traveled 3 time zones to a Cal team coming off a bye. If he followed the ACC as closely as the SEC, he'd account for that.

As an LSU fan I have no problem with the power rating I understand that. What I have problem with is Notre Dame and Iowa State being RANKED above us in the AP. Notre dames loss to NIU is way worse than our loss to USC and I don’t think Iowa States schedule really merits them being over us.

The JP poll does not punish or reward teams for performance in the current year. And if your a preseason highly ranked SEC team, your not dropping in the JP poll as long as your losses are to other preseason highly ranked SEC teams. And if your Bama, you can lose to Vanderbilt and still be ranked in the top 6. Where is Vanderbilt in any polls?

I'd be incredibly curious what data points feed into this "model" and how each point of data is weighted. Because there has to be some on the field data being taken into consideration: Stats, Home v Away, Win/Loss, and so on. Otherwise the model would never shift. Which is why USC at 12 is so puzzling because according to the same data USC lost to two non-top 25 model teams. But it still has them above LSU at 13. So the win against LSU seems to have far more weight than two losses against Michigan and Minnesota. So the on the field stats and results have to matter its just a question of how much. He'll never reveal the what and the how of the model because it's proprietary, but the ambiguity just breeds suspicion.

The model cares nothing about wins or losses. It's a computer simulation and when the simulation runs the teams ranked higher are favored to beat the teams ranked lower.
