Few things 1)your friends are either not Moroccans or they lied to you. In fact as Moroccans we rather say that we are Africans than Arabs (which we are not) I like to monkey around a lot so I poke fun at my Afro American friends by telling them that I have more “African blood” than them (a way to say I am more African than them 😂) 2) Moroccan planes were always well kept and we do have some of the best pilots in the world. 3) service in the other hand was always horrible but has extremely improved for the last few years and I am glad you were happy with it. I hope you have enjoyed your stay in Morocco and please come back soon and more often 🙏

I spent two very happy years living in Morocco & have since then visited it a few times, I like the place and the people - and of course the food and the very varied scenery. I ‘ve flown on RAM a few times and think it overall pretty decent, I also lived for a number of years in France & have visited many times - RAM holds up pretty well against Air France, for example, although the aircraft do tend to be a bit older, but as you found decently cared for and the friendly service is a definite plus. Looking forward to your 787 review now. PS/ I’ve always thought of Moroccans as North Africans or Maghrebins, not really as Africans as such, and I don’t really think most Moroccans think of themselves that way either, although of course the country is a member of the OAU/AU.

As a North african I never heard anyone say they don't want to be called "African", Usually you'll hear people saying they don't want to be called "Arabs" (because ethnically we are not Arabs, we are Amazigh/Berbers but influenced by Islamic culture and arabic language) but everyone in North africa knows they are African, usually in normal dialect language the word "African" is used in most cases to refer to "subsaharan" African (in dialect we just reduce "subsaharan African" to "african"), And refer to ourselves as "North" African or "Maghrebi" (as in part of the Maghreb), but we all know we are African are never have I seen or heard anyone say they don't want to be called as such. We do not like though when people say we are "part of the middle east"

@jonasw39452 жыл бұрын
@@adamwz248 What fitna ? Speaking Arabic does not mean becoming Arab, Arabs live in the middle east, If you want to identity as Arab then go on but how does that make it fitna ?? The people that have always lived in North Africa are Amazigh not arabs, arabs only came to share their religion and most of them left when the Amazigh controlled back the area, only a couple of Arab tribes settled in North Africa and none of them make up any significant percecntage of the population, unless there was an ethnic clainsing of entire region then you can't change the entire genome of the population, if you say North African are Arabs then you admit Arabs did what Europeans did to the native americans (killed everyone and replaced them) but that's not the case We north africans are before everything North Africans ethnics then citizens of our distinctive countries after that you can choose whatever identity you want
@adamwz2482 жыл бұрын
@@jonasw3945 Arabs came to North Africa before Islam. Berbers themselves are of many ethnicities and not only one as you may think. Also speaking Berber doesn’t make you Berber. Berbers didn’t grow from that soil. They are also migrants who came from different parts of the earth and settled in that area. @@adamwz248 Berbers are the indeginous people of North Africa, nobody came from nothing and at least we know berbers didn't come from the middle east. Arabs also didn't come from the soil neither did the Europeans, neither did the Chinese, so should we all call them Arabs ? What kind of logic is that ? What we know is that humanity came from Africa and we are Africans, the only indegenous people that ever lived in the Maghreb region are the berbers and so that's what we are, speaking berber doesn't make you berber, it's your ethnicity not your culture. Arabs didn't come to North Africa before Islam, you are very wrong, there is no recorded historical evidence of a mass immigration from the Arabs before that, Arabs came to spread islam and they did after killing a lot of berber who resisted the invasion, Arabs ruled of a some years and then got overthrown and left, some tribes like banu Hilal and others did immigrate to North Africa later on but that's it, a couple tribes can't possibly change the entire existing population. Or else we would all be calling France part of the Maghreb since the amount of people from the maghreb region that immigrated to France just during last century far faar exceeds the people that came from the middle east to North Africa since forever. How are you so suure you are Arab ? And what does the Prophet has anything to do with it ? If you are Sahraoui then you are from the sahraoui population that inhabited the African Sahara, it has literally nothing to do with the middle eastern arab region.
@jamesharry4012 жыл бұрын
You can choose to call yourself “African”.That’s your opinion but it’s not a fact. North Africa is a Berber/Amazigh land and has nothing to do with the Arabs neither the Africans. Now, If you want to challenge a fact, go challenge the DNA tests of North Africans and start by yourself first.

Hi, Amazing work Josh! 👍🏻 I'm Moroccan and I'm proud to be African. You asked us if we take offense to being called Africans? Not really, well It depends because there are two main ethnic groups. In Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, One group is Arab ethnic with origin from the Arabian peninsula and Iraq from the middle east from centuries ago. While the other ethnic group is the (Amazigh) ethnic group, you know them as (the Berbers) they are the true native Africans. Native to North African Mediterranean basin Like me. (berbers are Mediterranean African Caucasoid ). To be precise. The Amazigh Berbers don't take offense if you called them Africans, because they are native Africans, But they would correct you by saying we are North Africans, not Africans because they look night and day different from all other Africans in the rest of the African continent. However, they would take more offense if you called them Arabs instead of Africans or North Africans. While the Arab ethics in the region however would often take offense if you call them Africans instead of Arabs because they naturally feel more connected to the middle east rather than the African continent because they originated from ME 500 to 1000 years ago that's why. I'm an Amazigh Berber African female native to North Africa and I feel connected more to Africa by far, rather than the middle east, so I wouldn't mind at all that people call me African, and it also puts a smile on me even further if they call me for what I am and it is (north African) 👈This is me in my profile picture

I have taken RAM from JFK to Casablanca quite a few times as a non rev passenger (I am an American Airlines employee) and i have had all very positive experiences on RAM! The staff has been amazing and seemed genuinely happy to have me on board. While they don’t offer upgrades to non rev’s, one FA actually brought me dinner from first class! Love RAM (and Morocco!!!!!)

Interesting trip report. I flew Royal Air Maroc 747-400 out of YUL and their 737-800 on to Cairo, and my experience start to finish was exceptional. I was hoping your 787 flight would be to Montreal. Maybe next time.

My husband is Moroccan and he mostly calls himself a Moroccan and Arab, we live in the states but I have flew this airline 5 times. A long flight issues a dinner and breakfast which you definitely can’t compare to Moroccan food. I also find they aren’t very organized with seating and we had one issue returning to the states years ago (pre-Covid) the flight was full so we had to wait another day. Our luggage was already checked in and when we arrived they had our bags all open and had to ask for them because they obviously arrived a say before. Its the only direct flight from JFK so it’s the only way we travel if it can be avoided. The staff is really nice and the planes were always clean though. So basically it depends on your needs and desires if you want a direct flight. Thanks for the video, the next trip we will do a week vacation from Casablanca to Spain!

We Moroccans we strongly believe we are African and proud of it. The early human has been discovered in morocco and from there has been spread to all Africa Europe and Asia so this says it all. In casablanca a lots aircraft from all over get refurbished in that airport that why RAM has got a good standard for its aircrafts.

Can't wait for you to fly Libyan Arab Airlines. I flew that airline a lot to/from my work in the oil sector during the 1990s.

Looks good. I'll remember this review if I ever make it to the Mediterranean. By the way, the European use of the term "Africa" began with the Romans and referred to Carthage, now Tunisia. So, the Maghreb in general. The term was later applied to the whole continent. As for whether Mediterranean Africans are African, I've had Libyan friends who were European in appearance and one who looked pure sub Saharan African. Many Arab looking Egyptians have tightly curled African style hair.

Hi Josh, thanks for the great review, as always. Im so happy to see that u sit in the back! When I was a frequent flyer, I always sat in the last rows, which my wife never understood.. Regarding duty free, I find it often practical for last second gift, and on many airlines the choice is nice. One of my favourite is always model planes. Looking forward to your 787 review!

I feel African and not Middle East. History is an evidence that Arabs were no more than 10% of the population of North Africa when they came in the 7th century. The population of Morocco is mostly native Amazigh, Africans from south Morocco (Mali, Senegal,...) and from south spain after the invasion of Andalusia. Concerning the pilots, they are among the most highly skilled as Ethiopian pilots in Africa.

Hi, thank you for nice video on RAM. I have two remarks though. First, please next time when you put morocan map, please put one that includes our Sahara. Secondly to answer your question on Moroccans origin, there are not Arabs mostly. They are Amazigh. Or Berbers if you wish. North Africans are the first inhabitants are Amazigh. Read on this section to know more. Thanks again Cahill

Aftica as name was given by romans to Tunisia more than 2000 years ago then the name was extended to the whole continent. The native people of north Africa; the Berbers (Amazighs as they name themselfs ) are therefore Africans. I am moroccan amazigh and i am african though i am White..those north Africans who think they are arabs feel otherwise. I like your vidéos. Greetings from Casablanca.

hi so am french but i have some moroccan family and why the north african peoples and more especially the arabs don't like to be called "africans" is because for us we have a streotyped image of african which is being black and more generally some poor coutries and the culture is not the same.
@hamzaaitessarghini91892 жыл бұрын
Majority of moroccans are ethnically and genetically north africans. We have a different language and culture. It is insulting to call us arabs as much as calling a native american as a Europeans or Asian.
