I’ve been doing some thinking recently about this channel and a thought popped into my mind overnight. It’s been a really interesting journey sharing my love of the piano with everyone all over the world. It still trips me out that I spend an afternoon recording a track (it has to be the afternoon for those curious about the process, as the piano is lit by natural light - it’s best between 1pm - 4pm in the room that I’m recording in), sitting by myself in front of a piano in my music school, and that people from all over the world get to experience a very private moment of my creative process. What I find particularly interesting though is when I listen back to these interpretations, there’s a pretty strong disconnect between playing/recording the tracks and hearing them back. Without a drop of ego, I personally enjoy listening to these tracks either late at night to help me fall asleep, occasionally in the morning when I wake up to find some more motivation about working on my Radiohead songbook, but my favourite time would definitely be when I’m travelling, especially in airports or on planes, and also on public transport. As there are a lot of returning subscribers and listeners on this channel, my question to you is this: Where and when do you listen to these tracks? What are you doing? Working? Studying? Travelling? Eating breakfast? Passing out? What time of day is it? What do you see? How does it make you feel? I’d be very curious to hear your thoughts, so hit me up. As always, thanks for supporting the channel and for incorporating this music into your lives. Man, the internet blows my mind sometimes x

I've been listening around mid-day while at work. Currently it is my lunch break. I'm just munching and listening to you on headphones. Your works are both familiar and new. I don't find myself thinking of the lyrics really, just hearing the melodies and sometimes being surprised when a new progression appears or does not appear at an expected time. The works are very relaxing and calming. Sunlight is blasting in my office window, which seems appropriate. So, I'm seeing a lot of light. I really like the black and white video style and the exposed frame of the piano. I'm just really appreciating what you have given to the world and hoping to be able to contribute a similar sort of peace in my life

Growing up I never listened to David Bowie on any level, however I have recently gained a huge interest in his personal life ,and while the original is great, this cover gave me an emotional response I haven't experienced years. The long build up leading to 3:06 actually came close to making me cry.

@@AliceP. Hey super late reply, but yes I love the original. However the point I made was that my interest was very short and rapidly focused on Bowie, personally I don't know how a single song by someone I never listened to until then was able to elicit such an emotional reaction.

Oh Josh, how beautiful is this? I just had to keep listening after I experienced your Pink Floyd cover. I LOVE David Bowie and this is an absolutely fabulous and refreshingly original interpretation of his genius work :-) Just curious if this is all improv or a combination of more structured ideas with improv thrown in. I do a lot of that .....cryptic notes and sometimes I structure, sometimes just freeform improv. I really respect what you are doing here and think you are just great!!! The way you simulated those spaceship sounds with that rumbling bass was genius! You play with a superior technique....great mastery and most importantly....PASSION!!! Without passion, notes are just notes :-) BRAVO Josh! ~Jackie

Forgive my ignorance, I actually didn't know that, Daniel... mythical is the territory Josh's rendition of this song takes me to. As you might suggest, the Stardust God is looking down from the Olympian ampitheatre with great approval. Listening to JC playing is a heavenly experience, and it'd be something else to hear it live one day.
@danielcox61434 жыл бұрын
@@ursamajor5107 There's a line from, a really great line from an even better movie, "What do you want to know, a day without death?" It's from the movie _Risen_ (2016). Clavius, a centurion present at Christ's crucifiction, is saddled with the unenviable task of debunking the myth surrounding Christ's resurrection and is surprised to find Jesus alive and well, he follows him. He wakes up early one morning and sees Jesus who apparently doesn't need to sleep any longer, and carefully and respectfully moves in till he's seated next to Jesus, and our Lord turns to him knowing his thoughts (great storytelling by the movie's creators), "What do you want to know, a day without death." Clavius of all people certainly knew that better than everyone else already. What Jesus (I believe) was saying to him is, "What do you want to know _for yourself,_ a day without death?" We've been sold a lie, people don't die, only our bodies give out. Every person on this planet could lay down their body and no one would actually die. The trick would be hearing Bowie play and sing it without having to lay our body down. My ministry is Alyssa Michelle Soap, she's my Archangel, one of two, (Michelle Michael), the other is (Gabby/Gabriel).

What a good news this morning! Josh Cohen made another great piano cover! I love the intro... I hoped you would do some other intros like you did for Paranoid Android.

I wonder if this is not your best cover, but I hesitate precisely with Paranoid Android. I had a special crush on Pyramid Song and Svefn-g-Englar too, simply because I love those songs. Can't wait for The Rainbow ;-)

It's so funny that I've been receiving requests for The Rainbow. One of my closest friends has been on about it for the past month. Kinda tripped him out a bit that people had been requesting it, when we were using it for a reference for an album that we are working on at the moment. Thanks for the request! 😄

Josh, I can feel the sensitivity with which you play all the way into the heart of my study. It relaxes me enormously, mate. Thank you!

Hi! Do you mind if I use the beginning part of this on a little animation I made? I'll make sure to credit you and link to this video. Your covers are great btw!

Hi Josh. I'm honored to be your newest subscriber - and fan. Your interpretations inspire me to finally take piano lessons. I love noodling, but I know that my range will really expand with a little formal instruction. Thanks for sharing your music - and for the inspiration!

Glad you've found some inspiration from the music. Appreciate the support. Good luck with the lessons! 😄

I think a Bjork cover would be great, maybe Hyperballad, Yoga or Bachelorette translate well to piano, cheers.

I would love to record a Björk track at some point 😄
