I studied health and social care at uni. The course was a complete joke. When my lecturer asks if anyone knows anything about dementia and some of the other people there say yes, they've learnt about it from a recent Eastenders story line, you know you're in the wrong place 😂

Josh's description of going to acting school is so eerily similar to my experiences going to a trade school to be an electrician and learning nothing.... only difference being my school never called to ask about my experience because they shut down the week after i got my certificate... a pretty piece of toilet paper that thing was.

"Acting is a poor man's hobby and a rich man's job." This can be said of damn near everything anymore. The in-crowd and wealth always entrench themselves and their heirs. As for university and getting a career, there's another phrase that stuck with me: " Those who can't 'do' teach." So why would one of these teachers who failed at their aspirations want to see a student surpass them? For years I wanted to be an artist or illustrator in animation, movies, and games. Lifelong dream. The singular art teacher at my charter high school destroyed that ambition. He was a washed up hippy who failed as a photographer, and they put him in charge of their entire visual arts curriculum. He had blatant contempt for any of us who sought anything more than to take photos like him or paint as a hobby. I uniquely loved character design as a boy, was inspired by innumerable fantasy games, and in his class I became "King of the White Boy Tribe". There was no cultivation unless you shared his political views, or did the doggy tricks he assigned. A teacher who failed their own ambitions will not cultivate those of a pupil. Awesome video, Josh. Thank you. I needed this.

Josh's feelings about college are similar to my own despite having gone for completely different degrees. My computer science education covered basic programming you could learn on your own time and didn't cover how to actually become employable or find a job. The degree has only been worth it in that jobs require you to have a degree to apply. The actual educational value was in no way reflective of the cost to get the degree. It was very frustrating going to school to be a programmer for four years and pop out only to find that you're not qualified to be a programmer. Turns out actually being qualified for a job was something you have to go do on your own time. And like Josh I didn't go to the fanciest college in the world but I also didn't go to Brenda May's remedial school for wayward clowns.

To be fair if you drove your own Rolls-Royce then you were a filthy beggar by rich-people standards. One did not drive themselves in a Rolls-Royce, they were driven. You used to have to send your chauffer to the special Rolls-Royce driving school so that he (because you'll be damned if a woman drives you around) to learn how to properly shift through the gearbox and never grind a gear. I'm not kidding. If you were wealthy and needed a driving car for yourself you'd get some peasant car like a Ferrari or Maybach, but if you were a discerning Englishman of taste you would choose either Aston Martin or Bentley. Maybe a Lotus if you were more into racing. Your job of course would be smoking. I say this all tongue firmly in cheek, but all of this was real held beliefs by the people that should get eaten first in any televised revolution.

I have a simillar... gripe with my Uni of old... I felt cheated and... made a fool out of when it became clear that "Sure, your work might be good. It might be even exceptional. However, here is Bob. Bob may be barely passing the minimum treshhold, and he seems as a whole league below your achievements. However, Bob's parents come from a family that used to have a coat of arms. A real one. And they are making donations to our faculty. So you know, your project wont get financing, Bob's will, sorry, you know how it is" Things like that legit happened. After few years made me ditch that path of carreer. I'd rather not work in a field that i used to love, than go there and be surrounded by dishonesty and backstabbing...

So interesting that theater is considered expensive in most countries. In Lithuania it's not that expensive. Cheaper tickets could be around 20-30 euros. And the quality.. well it's amazing - the independent OTK theater was presented in Festival d'Avingnon 9 times, couple times in La Biennale di Venezia, etc. That's probably the best known theater, but there are other theater / directors just as good.

It's not just a case of knowing what you want to do, there's also gatekeepers. Those who say you can't do it because it's a bad idea for whatever reason, those who find no value in your efforts and those, who will constantly say no because you're not worthy for whatever reason. That stuff will destroy you if you're not careful

Red flag: some of the major religions (Catholicism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism) got like a week each... no mention of Buddhism at all. I went with theoretical philosophy instead for a few months, and then programming.

55:50 The benefit of being seen as "one of the guys" when you're rich is that they get to turn public opinion into obedience, if you're perceived as a normal dude who got really rich because he is smart, then you can peddle exploitative ideas that benefit you and make your fans think its just the most rational thing to believe. Another thing rich businessmen do is shower in money the people that are perceived as wise intellectuals and have Them push the exploitative ideas instead and make wage slavery look like a moral obligation.

Realizing i must not rely solely on my University degree, and i must go out of my way create a path in getting a job. I dropped out of Uni 2 years in though, because i got wee bit lucky and landed a job, where i practically got paid to learn how to do the job. It became too taxing for me, so i took the risk and just leave uni. Here i am decade later, enjoying life as an Admin Assistance of a werehouse, working from home practially everyday. I don't know if this holds any truth to this on the matter of "money doesn't buy happiness" saying. However I've heard before that that was originally used against rich people to not hoard the wealth that they had aquired, however to spend it either on the community or in the shops of people so that the money would keep circulating.
