AJs chin is absolutely fine. It’s his defense. He’s got rabbit ears thinking he’s a massive puncher. He is on a motionless target with no ability to counter effectively. I said it before the fight I’ll keep saying it:AJ is a freak of nature genetically and he’s forgotten he can box. Ironically his “boring” style which I loved proved he was formidable but as you said in the heat of the moment, he started brawling instead of boxing. Opposite Klitschko mid 20s AJ would have found a way. Not now. Bud has a habit of doing this as well. Mean machine pieced him up and set him down early (the ref imo egregiously made the mistake to call it a slip). It’s going to catch up to Bud one day but pound for pound Bud might be one of the most athletically gifted combat athletes on the planet we know of. And why I have madrimov such a good fighting Chance. Same with both Anderson Silva and more recently Izzy who realized mid fight they’d been relying on their athletic ability for a while only for age to catch up. I say all this bc I think AJ while yes slowing down, still is technically talented. He has to be okay with the “boring” style again though. While Izzy/anderson or even if you contrast the two halves of Floyd career pre-hand issues and flashy, long combos looking to punish vs hit and don’t be hit all shell all the time, falling back on technique while retaining athletic vantages is VERY possible. I just maintain my original point from your first video: a very game 27 year old prime big puncher in his World Cup/Super Bowl fight offsetting the very advantages AJ still maintains over the heavyweight field is not a proper benchmark. Who else is 27 and world level while having big power and rangey? Dubois would trouble most boxers especially last night sold out at wembley. Has a lot to do with this weird facade of his “quitting”. It’s so bizarre to say a guy who ate his umpteenth liver shock from the undisputed champ quit. Or multiple eye fractures closing his eye shut. Billy Joe had that same energy until Saul caved his face. Same with chuvalo and I dare someone question that man’s heart. Fact is you won’t find really any examples of someone fighting on a properly broken orbital. No, Naoya absolutely did no injure his eye vs nonito like billy Joe or Daniel. For one their faces were literally to the point it would be unsafe to hit them a single time more. And two Naoya didn’t even need surgery thankfully . He’s an absolute warrior this isn’t a knock In the slightest but you cant really name one or one that fought world level with a title on the line (to ensure the operator is quality to exploit it if need be) and didn’t suffer lifelong injuries bc of staying in more rounds. As a former kickboxer I’ve only had to take a shin to the liver occasionally. I’m sure there’s levels but anecdotally you can literally kick rocks haha sometimes you literally don’t have a choice your legs simply do not work no joke. Not trying to be that fella but it’s unique in that I truly wish every hardcore fan got both 1. Wobbled just the equilibrium. Just to stop this chin nonsense. No chin in the world can overcome biochemistry. Good chins just protect vulnerable areas better. Your legs feel like jello someone sneezing on you would knock you over alone an actual world level combat athlete and 2. Just one liver punch in a safe setting. We used to do this at our gym to the side that were training for competition and were just curious or the guys rolling and wanted to know what it’s like in a controlled safe way. If I give you 50% of my shin load you’re not walking right for atleast a week and Id be a 185cm super middleweight in boxing terms. The bigger guys would wreck you. So while most heavyweights can defend against it, there’s a reason Usyk was the one who got him. A blind liver shot especially your entire body shuts off. Hell you might be able to stand but that’s about it. Even that is impressive. I’ve seen plenty of guys who wanted to go out on their shield be happily obliged and almost gleefully eat a heel kick to make sure it doesn’t dig into their midsection. Net, Dubois’ chin is just fine. His defense and head need work specifically get off the center line. But AJ fought Klitschko relying on his body to compensate same as Dubois did . Old, slightly slower, and slightly less powerful operators get to their mark less often and struggle a bit more with getting inside AJ and weathering that storm Dubois did. Until there’s another guy this young and big, or until comparatively EVERYONE is young and big (e.g., James Toney later), AJ will always have a very good chance. This loss doesn’t mean he has nothing to offer. On the contrary. Dubois is just a very unique heavyweight. You either need to exceptionally more slick (Usyk) or exceptionally more powerful (Joyce who himself is a victim of age with fewer tools to now rely on). Dubois has literally already fought the worst for him. While I’m FAR from on the Bakole bandwagon, I do like the boxing pedigree in his family and think Martin is a bad matchup specifically for Dubois too. Bakole is beatable by a quick slick boxer but Dubois is by no means a Michael Hunter whose only loss is a prime Usyk as a pro. Their skills are different but Dubois right now serves as a puzzle the way a Cus led Tyson befuddled guys. It would take a Lennox to wipe him out or a VERY game Holyfield who had good hands. AJ has good power and is rangey but I wouldn’t say he has good hands or is bailed out by his chin like a young Joyce. Hopefully Bakole has a scrap with Big Bang and then Parker can draw into Dubois with winners fighting each other for the strap. All 3 very to fairly young aside from zhang who is on the other end and thus wants to remain active for that reason. AJ should steer away from this rematch. But the inactive names go thin quick. He won’t or shouldn’t right Kabayel. Who knows what’s next but he’s got options once the scrambling slows down and everyone has their next fight done and dusted. The heavyweight scene has been beautifully disrupted and I can’t wait to see how it plays out personally

His chin is fine? No it isn't. His chin is weaker than average for this level but it isn't as bad as his recovery capability. That's his real Achilles heel. Whenever he gets hurt, he takes way too long to recover. He's the opposite of Tyson Fury in this regard. Fury's chin is better than AJ's, but it stil isn't on the level of guys like Ali or Foreman, but he has amazing recovery capability. He takes merely seconds to fully regain his senses and legs. Joshua takes several rounds in the best case scenario, like against Wladimir, who was too tired to finish him off.
@benlincoln7358Ай бұрын
True. His defense was horrific this fight. His chin isn't good, but it is..fine. Just fine. I think people forget their watching Heavyweights, where one punch can end it either way. Fury gets knocked down often. If Joshua's chin is like a C+, his real issue is his recovery. Once he gets caught, he seems to be in trouble for awhile after

To me it looked like AJ felt he could phone it in. That he believed Dubios didnt hit hard enough and that he could be a little lighter on his Ps and Qs. When AJ overeached with his right in round three (I think) , he then pivots back to face Dubois, pivots on his left foot bringing his right foot round but he is still in range and opens himself up , thats why he got caught with the left hook by Dubois.Before pivoting like that you need to step forward with the lead foot, especially if your pivoting as a result of being overcomitted , to get yourself to a safe range as you turn to face your opponents.That mistake is costly but forgivable.But what was he thinking throwing a long right uppercut without covering his left chin with his guard or sticking his left out towards Dubois and covering his chin with his shoulder.Fair play to Daniel though cause he was hurt at that point but still took what AJ had served up for him (his chin) for a peach of a right .Thats all she wrote .AJ made a lot of basic mistakes but Dubois exploited them really well at the same time as staying safe and composed under heavy artillery.Fantastic performance by Dubois, him and his sister are cracking boxers and classy with it.

AJs complete lack of fundamental principles in this fight didn’t make any sense to me. Just making mistakes anyone can point out and his complete inability to adjust back to something resembling his fundamental guard he was using in previous fights. I also don’t understand why Ben Davidson didn’t tell him to put his hands up and tuck his chin cuz it was basically straight up in the air. Basics would have helped him avoid being hurt more. Saddest thing was he was working on These things with Derrick James and it was making him into a great fighter again but as soon as he came out looking the way he did I couldn’t believe it. It’s as if they threw everything he had been working on out the window and regressed backwards. I think Derrick had it right. Joshua’s inability to take shots and slower movement to avoid punches justifies his need to be a fundamental style fighter. Full guard. chin down. Catching and shooting. Using the jab to set up his power similar to the helenious fight and I think that Joshua beats Dubois.
@BoxingLifeАй бұрын
Yeah people gave Derrick James a lot of shit during his time with AJ. But he clearly saw the vulnerability and looked to make him more defensibly responsible with his guard. It usually takes 3 -4 fights before fighter and trainer really get to know each other after a move.
