Finally, at 20 minutes or so, after drooling all over the Tango 2 and it's joysticks, you come to the point; it only does Crossfire. I bought the Jumper T16 Pro exactly for this reason. The same reason I don't care what radio Trannis, Spektrum, Flysky, or any one else comes out with. I'm not getting locked into one companies protocols. Access is just a pain in the ass, Spektrum still thinks it can charge whatever, and TBS and Rapididfire and Gopro and DJI all want you to only buy their products, and shut everyone else out. They can all collectively kiss my rear. I still give the review a thumbs up, and the radio is a great design, with some true innovation. Too bad its proprariaty.

My approach to almost every review is to tell the positive things about the product before I tell the negative. If I start with the negative, then people will just tune out and not see the potential benefits.

I'm a new FPV pilot currently building my first quad. I actually ordered a Tango 2 last week before watching this, but this has confirmed I made a good choice for my first radio. It's easy for me to commit to crossfire starting out with it. I like the simplicity/minimalist styling of the radio and feel like it'll be perfect for me. I can't wait to get it in the mail.

its a good point, you don't know how awesome micros can be.
@kelinryan82224 жыл бұрын
Another point is the cost of crossfire. I'm glad you can afford it. But crossfire Rx's are twice the price of normal rx's for micro builds. And you will never fly a whoop or micro more then than a few hundred ft away. So paying $40 a Rx compared to $10 is a deal breaker for most people that don't have deep pockets.
@420fpv84 жыл бұрын
@@kelinryan8222 i think thats bollocks. The people with shallow pockets you refer too only grudge paying $30 for a receiver because they already splashed out for 10+ micros and cant justify spending the extra on crossfire receivers. If your sensible and only have 1 whoop like me then you only need one. I struggle to believe anyone in this hobby has pockets deep enough for multiple whoops but cant afford a $30 receiver, its just the perfect excuse to avoid buying into TBS.
@kelinryan82224 жыл бұрын
@@420fpv8 I disagree completely. I love TBS for long range and it has its purpose for sure. But most people in this hobby have frsky, or other raidos and yes some have crossfire modules mostly for long range and bigger quads. Most whoops come as a bnf version. In frsky freesky spectrum but most don't have a TBS version so that means buying the whoop and an additional Rx to solder in If you only have crossfire. Also I have more then one whoop like alot of us cause it's fun having races in the basement with your friends. And I bought them all bnf frsky so why would I want to change them? Also it's easy to justify and own more then one whoop at $100 each and get a new quad, instead of $30-40 and only getting a receiver.or even why add and additional 1/3 cost. I love being able to add a module to the back of my radio and having the option crossfire if I want. But again it's added cost and not needed for most builds when I don't need the range.
@scootroter48594 жыл бұрын
@@kelinryan8222 Yeah, no buying the great XM+ receiver for $13 and using it on almost everything! Sure, if you only fly 3" and above the Tango 2 is great, if you only have a few drones and don't mind paying a ton for each receiver! You have to say HELL NO to any micros! Plus, buying a BNF or RTF is almost a thing of the past....yes, a few come as a crossfire option, but just a few.

Great honest review Joshua, The main reason I bought a Tango 2 was the fact that it came with Crossfire built in and it was small. When I'm flying my planes I always use my Futaba TX but I did not like the size of it for flying Quads, so when the Turnigy Evolution came out I thought great just the size I need for quads, and I really liked the little thing. However it wasn't long before I wanted a long range setup so I picked up the Nirvana. Now I looked at Crossfire but wow the prices where crazy, so I when for the R9M setup and got myself a load of R9mm receivers and never looked back because it's such a great TX and I never had any problems with it (lucky ! ) apart from I was right back to where I started a bloody big radio, but this time now I had the weight from the module on the back and a separate lipo to power it. So that's why I got the Tango 2 as soon as I sew it I new it was the TX for me, Small and very well made and comes with the Crossfire built in. As soon as I got it I picked it a bunch of TBS Nano's and started to rip out my R9MM's and I have to say I'm loving the Tango 2.. As for my Whoops well I still use the Turnigy Evo for them. However when it comes back to my planes I will always stick with Futaba. Well have to go now I have a load of R9m gear and a Nirvana to post on eBay.

I got a pro and love a lot it... size, feel, portability, battery, folding sticks feel very good and allow it to slip into the slot in my thinktank formerly occupied by my Fatsharks, now the DJI goggles go where the X9D/Lite used to be, win-win. It is sooo freaking nice to not lug around a big tx... But as I put more and more time on it I've come up with a wishlist: - Fix some programming quirks, none are significant but there's more than a couple - no highlight for enter/exit during bind, XF Nano menu has a refresh issue, etc... for the price it doesn't quite feel finished (and I guess its technically not until its "fork" is absorbed) - Reverse the scroll wheel, mine works backwards... scroll down to go up, up to go down, hunh? And dump the wheel entirely on v2. For next version.. - Larger screen, just a bit. - Up to 1W. - Replace the larger push switches with slide-to-click switches or something else thats nowhere near as easy to accidentally push. - Replace the ornery scroll wheel with 3 simple buttons, it works and we're used to it.

Come race day it was the worst radio ever, could not see the screen in sun light, had nothing but failsafes on the start block, was good while flying but if i crashed it would lose connection too. I thumb on the left and pinch on the right and when actually flying it just wasnt comfortable anymore. The gimbles were perfect size as i struggled for full throw on the taranis. @@jackfpv8904 its not defective, works fine when there is only a few people flying. There were a few people that day that had fail safe issues. And they werent using a tango. No reviewer has used one in race conditions on a race day. It is a known issue with crossfire when there is lots of pilots next to each other with crossfire. Its fine once you take off usually. The one thing you didn't mention, which has been said in other videos, is the screen size. For some people, screen size is important for running custom Lua scripts, telemetry displays, GPS info, etc. Obviously for a small radio such as the Tango2, you can't have a large screen. So, like you said, this radio is not for everyone.

A slider/knob is great (necessary!) for adjustable throttle cut, for quads... No physical trim switch for fixed wing. No module bay for flying, most of what I own. I don't want two radios. And this doesn't do 1 Watt. So the original X-Lite is still the winner for me... It's a shame, because I'm a thumber, and a smaller radio with folding gimbals and low pro switches speaks heavily to me. But I fly toy grade planes, whoops and so on. I need a MPM of some sort.

And platinum $200-300 with 1-2 w output with folding gimbals and a case with a lite type module bay like the xlite that would allow with a aftermarket part that could except a multi protocol module for non crossfire. Like everyone else is doing with their remotes to allow crossfire. Just backwards. You want to fly with their brand ok but you gotta put an ugly brick on the back of your awesomely small remote.

Those folding sticks fit right in with the overall portability and character of this tx.. its nowhere near as compact to pack if the sticks are poking out and vulnerable. I'm not having any issues with the range at 250mw - its a good fit between the low 100mw and the hummming battery sucking 500+mw from my Lite/X9D combo. But.. I'd certainly like to have a legit 500mw option.

I am thinking I could also pick up a BetaFPV LiteRadio2 for when I add non-Crossfire rigs for closer range flying. Even with the two separate purchases I’m still at about a bit over $200 (I’m not interested in the Pro version) and will have two compact Txs I can throw in a bag or pack for a trip, depending on my needs. I love my tango 2 iv been getting kind of jealous watching videos about the ago1 gimbles for the radio master. im happy pyrodrone is selling the new gimbles for the tango 2 = ) i order the new gimbles and the new radeomaster micro elrs modular. that new boxer radiomaster looks good. the thing i hate most about this drone life is that you will see new stuff that you do not need but you do need them lol lol

JB it’s a 1S 5000mah battery. Also you can create a CRSF to FRSky (2.4) repeater and fly your whoops or other FRSky craft if need be 👍
@JoshuaBardwell4 жыл бұрын
Repeater is clever but non-viable because of latency. Nobody who buys a CRSF radio wants to fly with the latency of a PPM repeater.
@ARI3S4 жыл бұрын
JB yeah that’s very true, but it’s an option for “someone” out there 🤷♂️😁

I do wish it had a multi protocol module built in. It has to affect sales, so I was a bit surprised when I read that. that said... I will still get one, as I pretty much only fly crossfire when I head out to fly. After a few failsafe I have converted over. I will still have my X9D for micros mostly in/around my house.

Nice job jb! I agree with everything and yeah, why not a module bay or even pins or anything. The ability for some to use mp or full cf over .5$ of plastic and a few pin holes sounds like a huge mistake and will cost them alot I think. I'm looking for a new radio and love the idea of built in cf but I've built trust in the frsky 2.4 for racing and have been held up by alot of pilots struggling with Cf on the line. So yeah this is a deal breaker. It's the same shame that I cant fly anything but hd birds with my dji controller. I'm tired of lugging around 2 sets of goggles and controllers just to fly all my birds.

Hi thanks for the review I’m between Tango 2 pro vs DJI fav controller. They said crossfire has a greater range but does it work while it related to the video feed in dji goggles? Long range without picture! Please I need help with this i don’t wanna regret after buying the dji controller

I own a non-used jumper T12 plus and a X-Lite TX .. what's better : Buying a TANGO 2 or a TBS CROSSFIRE MICRO TX module for my T12

Jeepers I really like the simplicity of the DJI TX ! IF ONLY Dji had used these switch buttons ..and this antenna .... But I do have a pile of crsf rx I have already taken out doing DJI conversions .. So now what do I do with Tango 1 ? QX7 X-Lite And that little white/black tx fromnthree years ago ? And my micro and jumbo crsf modules ?? Damn

My x9D plus gave up yesterday. I was looking for an alternate. I am not a joystick person so I felt this has a different ergonomic not meant for me. Went for T16 pro. Hope I made the right choice!

I have the tbs tango 1 (fpv) and I was really considering this with the portability and now I’m using the dji goggles I won’t need the fpv screen BUT the only thing which stopped me going for it was I would rather have switches than those buttons for things like arm switch I’d be worried in simply pressing the button to disarm it in flight accidentally...

Joshua, I'm sure by now you've seen Bruce Simpson flying a micro quad through the use of a simple repeater/converter setup. I've had great success doing the same for one of my 5" freestyle quads.

Joshua, I need to reset my calibration sticks. At the moment they aren’t responding correctly, and I’ve just updated the firmware

Totally agree with this review. I've commented on TBS social profiles complaining about the lack of multiprotocol. I love the hardware, and I've been looking to switch to a gamepad style controller from my X9D purely for portability. However, the Tango 2 will not talk to anything in my fleet. Sure my bigger quads could be switched to Crossfire, and I'm sure TBS want that to happen, but i have even more tiny whoops. Case closed, no deal TBS.

Hi Mr JB, Do you suggest this tx for occasional helicopter flying too. Thanks.

the only thing missing from this radio now is a volume control - Ive tried various open TX programming different switch settings to control volume (sticks, roller, etc) but they need a dedicated potentiometer for volume IMO - still a near perfect radio

Josh I have the jumper T12 and tried setting it up in liftoff but having problems trying to get the sticks to settle in the calibration is it better to use the phono plugged in to the mic jack or better to use usb to phono connection I don't have any problems when using my freerider everything it's completely solid and stable but on liftoff throttle doesn't stop at 0 throttle and slightly rolling lol and not getting full control of the sticks and finding it hard to keep in the air hehe I can even get the chance to rip round your yard & house and freestyle in your garden and see if your looking out your window watching me rip up your yard pmfsl :-D
@JoshuaBardwell4 жыл бұрын
The phono connector will always introduce a ton of jitter in the signal. The T12 should be able to plug directly in to USB on your computer since it runs OpenTX. It will pop up a dialog box asking whether you want mass storage or joystick. Pick joystick.

I have a qx7 and a x-lite i got for its size. Since then i got a crossfire micro. so far ive not found a converter that i feel comfortable plugin in and out all the time. i have a multi protocol module that lives in their, and just use the qx7 with the crossfire. . . I think im gonna get one of these. I didint really like the look of it, i thought it looked like a toy, but i would like to have something small that i can use with crossfire, thanks josh

Form factor, designed by FPV pilots, no case needed, fits in small bags and doesn’t look like a TX I was flying planes with 25 years ago, the Nirvana is still the best TX IMO.

Would you be doing a full setup on this radio for new users of crossfire..... please think about it I personally would really appreciate it.
@jameslawrence80504 жыл бұрын
Crsf can be put on toothpicks and micros (see larva x shipped with crsf). So Tango 2 is a summer radio (black is going to be nice and warm in the hands...), whilst jumper/frsky etc. are winter-whoop radios...? Tango 2 seems to be a great radio. What a shame about not supporting other protocols! 😭

Is that a trainer port on the bottom or is it just audio? If it had PPM out, there are some multiprotocol modules that accept PPM in. You use stick commands to select the protocol. Of course, you'd have to find a way to power it and, those modules don't typically have great range.

I think I really like that transmitter. I do prefer using in-flight adjustments for pid tuning which eats up about 3 switches, so that might be cramped, but i bet i could get it. probably wont buy one though, my old spektrum is still working fine.

How is dji fpv controller compared to this? Erconomy, controls, buttons and range?
@Loktis4 жыл бұрын
How fast are the two position buttons? Seems like if you put arm/disarm there it would not be instantaneous because when you press it i assume it will send a signal when released, not while pressing it down or atleast thats how i have usually seen spring loaded toggle buttons work.
