This review/comparison came out at just the right time for me. I've started my fpv journey about a month ago. Got the jumper t16 plus, fat shark hdo2 (no receiver module yet, waiting for restock of RapidFire) and I've been practicing for about 2 weeks on various simulators. I'm at the stage now where i can reliable complete the FreeRider carpark scene. So I'm ready to move on to the real thing. Was considering the TinyHawk S as an intermediate step before graduating to a 3" CineWhoop. So thanks a bunch JB. Your videos have been a huge influence on my journey.

The flare on the ducts actually creates an airfoil when that section of the duct "leans" into the direction of travel, this produces more lift on that side of the duct and will help level out the entire quad. It is essentially a mechanical self-leveling system.

I assume you've already shot these episodes but one thing im curious about is noise. I know this class is very loud because of the ducts and it would be great to know which of these is quietest, especially because they are often flown near people. Thanks!

Thanks for reviewing these. Few things I'd be particularly interested in in the next few videos if there's a chance: - how much of a pain will it be to install a FrSky receiver? - to what extent can they still do freestyle/acro stuff? - are these worth pursuing over a 5"? (do you lose out too much on flight time?) - last and least -- do the ducts actually work? I feel a purchase coming on...
@JoshuaBardwell5 жыл бұрын
The ducts are scientifically proven to work. Andy Shen has published his test results on how he designed his ducts, and he's not the first to explore the idea. Of all of these guys, his is the only one I'm sure actually put some R&D into thrust testing the ducts, vs. just doing something that looks good.

Funny to think we've been playing around with ducted quads for around 5 years now but it never took off until now. first video i saw explaining in great detail how the duct acts like a wing was on RcModelReviews video "How ducting a propeller increases efficiency and thrust".

Good start to the review. I agree with everything except using a throttle cap. Doing that you're at the point where you may as well just use a 1408. But, I have built a megabee, bumblebee and taycan all with tmotors, f7's and DJI and I can easily get 6-8 mins of cruising with a 1400mah battery so I wouldn't consider them to be crazy battery hungry.

Does a tiny whoop have any advantages for making cinematic style footage over a 5" when space isn't an issue? I run my 5" at 20 degrees and the only reason I can think of to invest in a cinewhoop is to fly near people. What am I missing?
@JoshuaBardwell5 жыл бұрын
To fly near people. That's a good reason don't you think? When flying in tight areas and you bump the wall, you don't damage the wall, and you don't crash.

Your videos are a must to watch for anyone in the hobby. I am new to it and I am looking for a 3" cinewhoop with HD camera (4k Hybrid) and GoPro mount. I would love to try the DJI system but it is just too expensive to start with. So is there any BNF you recommend. What about cinequeen, but I am not sure if it can hold a GoPro. Or would it be better to build my own?
@djdubz5 жыл бұрын
joshua for the kopis, just put a hex driver in both screws (top and bottom). then you don't have to grip the standoff to take it off. I'm sure that's what you did, but some might argue that's better, so you don't scratch your standoff (that you can't see lol). awesome vid btw! looking forward to the winner video later this week. oh wanna c flightfootage of these guys too. next video?

@@JoshuaBardwell That's a bummer. I don't have one, so maybe not greatest suggestion. But would make sense, I would think? Maybe some turning on both ends of the hexes in oposite directions? or how about once you get the bottom out, use permanent locktite to get it stay put? just some suggestions.

Finally a comparison I have been waiting for quite some time! Still not sure which one to buy. HolyBro just suffers from design flaws... I would love support ShenDrones, but its too flex comparing to the others and too high-therefore the COG is more off. Dyatone looks cool and smart, but - not a fan of "Mamba" brand, quality, reliability, also looking at it just has waaay to many screws, and that iron cage in the front is just useless weight. So there is the Bumblebee... well... hmm.. maybe that one. Maybe its too yellow :) I would anyway swap their TPU Gopro mounts to be able to fit Hero's default cage, so you could change the angle, or mount something else, like a 360cam on it easily.

Really great comparison video 👍Looking forward to the other vids 🤗 I really want one, and was thinking of building one, but I'm not shure if it is worth building, since the BNF are so low priced. Fish eye is so 2000 imho, and I'm sick of it. Thank you for the awsome content, these videos really help.

Great vid as usual! Question: are there any Ceniwhoops with barometer/altitude-hold? Since these are more "sport" aircraft than racers, having a stable camera platform would be good -- wouldn't it?
@JoshuaBardwell4 жыл бұрын
I believe most Holybro FC have baro on board but not 100% sure. In the end, you can always install one if you want, but baro is not very good by itself at holding altitude due to the wild airflow from the props, and GPS won't work indoors. What you really want for indoor stability is an optical flow sensor and sonar.
@danieldimitri61335 жыл бұрын
can a gopro still do analog video out? i think they used to have an adapter that worked on the mini usb port. racers wouldn't use go pros for weight and freestyle guys probably wanted to avoid latency and then the session cams were a thing and people moved away from heros for a while. but i don't see why any of that would be a problem for a cinema drone.

PETG is a good filament for this application and easier to print than ABS. PLA is susceptible to cracking if used outdoors in the elements including sunlight. Hopefully the mfg would know this.
@notlewislevine5 жыл бұрын
PETG is my guess as well. PLA would shatter on the first crash. Could also be Nylon, new nylon filament prints as well as PLA if properly dried
@BB-mk1er5 жыл бұрын
I saw some really insane filaments the other day. Cant remember them all, but I saw silicone, nylon, glass nylon, magnetic, carbon fiber, conductive, and more that i cant even remember. A lot of them need stainless steel nozzles to print because of how abrasive the filaments are. Another thing that I saw that was pretty freaking cool was a lil unit that creates and changes colors while printing from a single nozzle. Now, I have no clue how long this has been available, but I just saw it. Its a small computerized box that links to your computer and your slicer. You stick in a few different color filaments and it magically splices colors together in real time to create full color 3D prints from a single nozzle. Super expensive, but neat.

ABS really isn’t that difficult to print as long as you have a heatbed that can manage the heat and a good enough PSU. TPU is much more difficult IMO. If you want something stiffer than PLA but don’t want to go ABS I can recommend PETG.

Re: digital vs analog for cinewhoop - Caddx Vista seems like it might be a great fit for these since you definitely won't be needing the on-board dvr and you save almost 30 grams. We just need to see how much worse it will be in high multi-path environments due to having a single antenna.

1408 vs 1507 comes to almost exactly the same stator volume, as well as the Mamba motors are known for being extraordinarily powerful. I would not say the diatone motors are a disadvantage, the are likely more powerful than any of the others.
@roystoys32394 жыл бұрын
Could you please create a video for how to set up BF for maximum stability in cinewhoops? I have several and since none of them have barometer altitude hold, I have trouble with vertical yo-yo'ing when doing hoover shots. Surely there must be a way to deploy the accelerometer in such a way to minimize altitude changes when flying slow or hoovering. Since you're the master of all things BF, perhaps you could create a video called "Cinewhoop Tuning". I, and I'm sure many others, would greatly appreciate it. Thanks! :o)

@Asu015 жыл бұрын
You can't simply say 1507 is bigger than 1408 based off the first two numbers. One is taller but narrower and one is shorter but wider. According to my calculation, 1507 has 329mm sq stator to magnet surface area whereas 1408 has 351mm sq stator to magnet surface area. This determines efficiency and power a motor can deliver. The taller stator is best at high RPM and since these 3 inches runs at very high RPM, that could be the advantage. These are all theories however, I'll look forward to your test flight to see whatever my claim holds up.
