Here are my 2 cents: 1. It was never a secret that they had been working on these, Fatshark THEMSELVES had "leaked" on RCGroups that the HDOs are coming up, back in early February 2018. 2. When there is no INNOVATION there should definitely be a lot of EVOLUTION. I cannot stand seeing this afterthought-of-a-faceplate-and-fan-combo, especially on flagship models. Having to power the fan separately is unacceptable after so many Fatshark goggle versions with this setup. Others do it right. Fan mods, power button mods, partial disassembly for LaForge cable routing etc should not be required in a USD 500 product after so much feedback from the community. There was a very nice poll in the Fatshark FB community page, as well as a (mostly productive) discussion on RCGroups, with many nice suggestions for improvements - most of which very easy to implement. Users know and speak up - Fatshark listens - but where is the evolution to justify the price? I have been begging for competition and I hope that Flysight with the FG01 Falcon and Aomway with the Commander V2 will get a bigger piece of the pie this year - rightfully so. I cannot think of anything else that can push Fatshark, aside from a significant change in their market share. In the last section of the video, are you just hiding your frustration or are you preparing for the Oscars? Speak up. It does not just boil down to price vs FOV. It is an old design that needs to be changed. OLED and a few minor fixes is simply not enough.

I couldn't agree more. Exactly what I just said to my friends. I don't even care about the slightly smaller FOV at this point but having to connect the battery balance plug to the faceplate is just a joke. It was a good fix at the time when it came out because you could retrofit the goggles with the faceplate but for the current flagship model, are you serious? And don't get me started on the dvr... It feels like fatshark is only trying to milk and ride the success they had so far without any real evolution and innovation.
@jmanfpv30796 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. In my opinion the current fatshark flagship googles are not even worth $300, they lack on features and Innovation, the pcb looks cheaper than some $100 googles, their only interest is profit. It seems that fatshark does not give a damn on users feedback. A lot of users do the IPD mod, this should have been fix by now. Since the first FPV googles not much has changed, that's unacceptable. Unfortunately no other company has yet been able to compete with fatshark, but I really hope that will change soon. The only company that could release right now something that would make fatsharks obsolete is DJI, but it's DJI so... no luck there either. I would love to see someone launch a kickstart for some really decent googles, I would be willing to support it up to $1000, just for the sake of Innovation. Anyway, for now we just need to accept the frustration o being a fatshark costumer.

goggles aren't a necessity, some of us ran around learning FPV on a screen costing 20 bucks. ... If you need FPV at a great price, you don't NEED it to hang off your face.
@licensetodrive99306 жыл бұрын
Kabab FPV really wants to build or be involved with the design of a really good set of goggles that use freeform prism lenses instead of the traditional magnification almost all goggles use. Freeform prism lenses are fricken awesome compared to what we have today, I have some Sony & Olympus video glasses that are like 20 years old and their optics are far superior to what Fat Shark are using.
@tsmspace6 жыл бұрын
goggles will win the "better performance overall" competition, and to really win races you will need the best, and therefore to really maximize your freestyle you also will need the best, because it will offer the most opportunity with the least effort,,,,, (you need more time to react when you don't have confidence in what you see",, but the cost of that kind of gear is probably not coming down, because the essentials are already available at really low prices, and by the time a person wants goggles, they are already going to be very picky, so premium prices won't deter them.
@kwaaaa6 жыл бұрын
@licensetodrive I think you mention this on RCG. What kind of FOV is on the Olympus glasses?
@licensetodrive99306 жыл бұрын
kwa yes I've posted about the freeform lenses of the old Sony & Olympus on RCG as Haku there. Diagonal FOVs; Olympus FMD-200 = 37 degrees (specs say 30H 22.7V), Sony Glasstron PLM-A35 = similar to Olympus, Sony Glasstron PLM-S700 = 30 degrees. Unfortunately just putting one of the prism lenses from those old glasses in front of a current day goggle screen won't give you that level of FOV because the panels in the old glasses are much bigger (I think they're like 2x the width & height). Whilst the screens look really clear in those old glasses, only the PLM-S700 could be viable for FPV due to their 800x600 displays, the other two only have 266 x 225 res screens, you can see the individual pixels!

Ya Boi's Dad That's too much for me. I'm currently using my smartphone, a VR Box and an Eachine ROTG01 receiver and it's awesome! And cheap! What I'm thinking about buying is an Eachine V800d, but not sure yet. I mean, the Taranis, which is a much complex, well thought and amazing piece of technology... Is cheaper than those goggles! It just don't make sense.
@isjackpot37726 жыл бұрын
I own the Eachine EV800D, as there are my only goggles. They are great, and if you don't plan on moving from box goggles to smaller ones, then go for it :). But for my purposes, the box goggles are just too bulky, and I need a smaller form factor. So the Commander v2s are for me. Do you get alot of lag on the Eachine ROTG01? It seems like it would be really laggy.

Best review ever. I think you nailed it. They could have been a brand that owns all things VR but nope, still need to fix the same old 2008 problems: 1. Fix the IPD range to be wider 2. Fix the DVR (and include a simpler on/off switch) 3. Fix the fan situation. Simple switch. 4. Improve the battery (make it smaller while improving battery life) 5. Everything else (single goggle with optimal 16:9 and 4:3 swap, better button design and layout, quick change straps, better foam, better industrial design, better materials, optimized analog and separate all-digital-only goggle, etc.) Oops wait I just described the Flysights. So they went with OLED which degrades over time, a smaller FoV & I will still have to buy dioptres so I can see the lower FoV & degradation. They really don't expect people to be wearing these in 10 years time. Meanwhile I just taped my Pro58 Achilles to my EV100's
@licensetodrive99306 жыл бұрын
That's a damn good point I haven't seen anyone else mention, OLED displays wear out, but LCDs don't.
@kwadsavethequeen83056 жыл бұрын
Yeah I am sure there are people that will upgrade every few years where OLED's degradation will not be a problem but for many spending USD$500 (+ extras) is an investment that should see them through a very long time, even if they end up as spares or backups. For that kind of money, I would want a visual cortex interface! I'm even dismayed why the Pro58 had to be OLED. Can't wait for this fad to evaporate.
@TheKrisBunch6 жыл бұрын
Seriously, you don't leave your goggles on like a TV. I don't think you will have to worry about the useful life of the OLEDs. Don't expose them to UV and don't leave them on for hours at a time and the OLEDs will last until you replace them with something better.

I'm sitting here with a fistful of money waiting for awesome goggles to make me finally upgrade from my SZ GS500 box goggles and this is what FS comes up with... I buy based on value and I just don't see it in these goggles over $300 for just the reason you gave... this is a SD image. Besides the cam has more to do with image quality these days. Get a Micro Eagle, it is as good as it gets for now and I'm very happy with it. This hobby is so weird. Everything else in the hobby is upgraded ridiculously fast, like a 6-8 month cycle. Except for goggles and TX's. The best goggles are $500, the features get worse, you have to put a $60-300 module and buy antennas just to fit in with the cool kids, not have a box hanging off your face and fit them inside your bag. Our TX's are giant and have a million features we don't use but at least they are cheap (Qx7). Its bonkers

Szymon Nowotniak I modified my goggles with four things on my own Dom V3 goggles that FS will never address... -Installed a on/off switch. -Swapped the stupid barrel connector out with a XT30 for better connection. -Hardwired a balance lead so you can turn on the fan without using your balance lead from the goggles anymore. -Cut the hole in the recover bay for the Laforge diversity wire. Come on FS, get your shit together already. It takes people like me to make a simple little modification that FS refuses to listen to the customer at all.

They're not. Greg is very cool and there's definitely a limit to what can be offered at prices like this. This is, after all, a VERY niche market. OLED screens... Nice colorful picture (assuming that distortions around screen edges are sorted out by optics), which slowly degrade towards yellowish tint in next 3-4 years because blue OLED's degrade faster. Plus burn-in white letters from OSD. But a definitely nice try. Wish that science would make better OLEDs without burn-in and blue LED degrading in next decade. What else. No separate focus adjustment for each eye yet? And max IPD is still 69? C'mon! That is 500 bucks and they doesn't have separate focus adjustment which dirt cheap EV100 googles have.

@austntexan6 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Novas gets it. Until there's a big leap forward in vTX and vRX real HD quality, these advancements are all to small to really bother over, at least for the casual FPVer. The difference from Base Fatsharks to Dom2 was pretty big. After that, the benefits have been very subtle. Still, as a small business, he's got to continue to move forward with whatever innovation he's got at his disposal. . . due to pressures from the larger Chinese mfgrs diluting his market share with similar products for less.

The bigger screen or wider fov I think means that you will be able to see those interlacing lines on the screen so I don’t think it’s worth the price difference imo. Correct me if I’m wrong. In my case I fly alone 100% of the time not becuz I’m a loner 🤪 cuz I haven’t met anyone yet in my village and I’ve been doing this for only like 7 months now. I use the trueD 3.5 and it works great for me. Hope this helps.

All I really can say from this is thank you, you gave out the fine points and 37* FOV is a deal breaker, I love the hd2s and I'll just keep using them!

It's got to be tough to build, sell and make a profit on such a niche product. Good thing FPVers are so easy to please lol. Seriously, I can't imagine a more picky group of consumers than uber-nerd FPVers (I'm including myself in this group). All we do is talk about speeds and feeds. We're tough to please. I'd love it if he made a super big FOV, like the older Aviators, but with high end screens and optics. I'd pay the five hundy for something like that. Keep the DVR even, just give me a super wide pair of BASE goggles, I'll go back to plugging in to a GS if the picture is decent!

Biggest turn off for me as a beginner, to find out that you’re not buying drones, but mostly goggles. As that’s the most expensive part of the game. And as Joshua said, we’re not talking about BlueRay quality here.

I'm using the Eachine EV800D that costs $100 that I paid with my hard earned paycheck. No way I could justify $500 on some goggles. The EV800D are nice, but they are bulky and the DVR seems temperamental. If I were to buy some better goggles my pick would be the Aomways, as they seem to have good specs with a more decent price.

Exactly. I am upgrading from my EV800D to Commander v2s.

Ya Boi's Dad I'm about to join the hobby with a ludicruis motor tiny whoop, and am planning to do the same! Do you think it is a smart choice?
@isjackpot37726 жыл бұрын
You can't go wrong with the EV800D. If you decide to go more into FPV flying, then you can always upgrade goggles later. But the EV800D are good quality and will make you happy.

If you decide to spend more money at the start, get the Aomway Commander v2s.

Excellent review Joshua. I have been flying with the HDO for a couple weeks now, and they are suited well to me. I have the IPD on the maximum and I doubt I could see anything wider. But I am actually coming from Dominator V1 (oh I also use HeadplayHD, 72 degrees FOV, which is impossble to freestyle with!), so even the 37 degrees is a huge improvement. And yes, it is richer, brighter display. Love the Curb YE tunes at the end lol

Thanks for the honest review. Hearing your opinion, seeing the price and eventually trying a pair that someone has purchased are all important parts of a $500 decision. I know everyone is in a hurry to get the next awesome upgrade/product out to us, but come on please fix the things everyone has been complaining about forever (DVR for example). Appreciate your efforts, opinions and telling us what you really think. Those are the reasons we continue to watch your videos

So glad I got a set of HD2s before they went the way of the dodo. Got some edge blurring? Try adjusting the thickness of foam on the face plate.
@properfpv71606 жыл бұрын
I remember when I first used HD3’s, I was expecting a lot more immersive FOV than they have. Since using them a while I’m used to it but more immersive would be nice. I recently purchased Eachine ev100’s for my son. They have a very narrow 25* (I think)FOV, I used them for a dozen or so packs to make sure they were usable and got used to them though it was slightly less immersive. The perfect Fat Shark goggles: Fix the blurry edges on the 50* FOV by making them adjustable in focal length and IPD not smaller FOV. HD DVR. At least as good as the screen resolution. Power button. Why do we need to plug in the balance lead to make the fan work ( it’s like an afterthought) and wear out the battery cords plugging them in dozens of times per session? Wider adjustment range for the IPD. Decent face pad. Affordable price point. They would sell ten times more if they were like $250 Eventually it will happen but if they can’t get it right soon, another manufacturer will get it right first and make them scramble to catch up. Cheers! Thanks for the great review Joshua!

coming from a domv2, (32 degree) I really like the 37 degrees a lot. I always felt that the HD3 screen was too big for my taste, especially for racing. would like to see how the size compares to the DomV2. great review and I totally agree, FS is really low on "innovation", looks like we still dont get an on/off switch or a fan that is powered internally...

This review is spot on! Wider view all the way, I’ll stick with my HD1 and upgraded DVR.
