I tried to interview for a part time job for students, when I was at university. I did their codetest, and had an interview. Then I didn't hear anything for months, and I even contacted them multiple times, to hear what the status was. Then I got rejected for not having enough experience. For a job for students. When I was done with my studies, I got a job immediately after at a big company, which I actually really liked. So after about a year this company with the student job, approached me, and wanted to hire me full time. I only had to accept a lower salary than what I already had, but they said they had a better culture, than where i worked, plus most likely less overtime. I told them no :D And then I told them that I never really did overtime. I've done a few times, when my team leaders asked me. But there was rarely any need for overtime.

You’re opening my eyes to a trend, here. When someone quits a job, nobody else questions whether the role they are leaving should continue to exist or what will be done in the meantime, possibly because Business God has mandated that “the remaining believers shall not be affected by a missing body”. You can’t transplant everything beneficial from one person to another. That’s why humans, even ones who work together, remain distinguishable from one another at the end of each day. Maybe I’m talking out of my ass, but why else would it seem like a company, small or large, gradually transformed from something caring into a dementor from Harry Potter? Shadow Moses conspiracy etc. Nice vid, once again.

You’re hired!” No background check, no a decent technical interview. And yeah, it wasn’t Facebook, it was a small dev body shop with the main office outside of the US and they just pick whatever contract they can get. No info on Glassdoor, only 2 people worked there as FTE on LinkedIn. They kept harassing me for a week or so. I just said no. Beware! You end up doing everything yourself because it's a small company and at the end of it you have a year of job history as a junior developer on the resume (because there was no one to mentor you, not because you deserved it; but it does make it hard for future employers to insist you start as a intern/graduate).

This is a really common theme around here. I don't know how the laws in the Us are, but here, your first year you get paid 60% of the wage and and second year a 75% if you are under 30 and you have worked for less than 2 years. Also, the first 2 months in a company, they are free to let you go without compensation, it's like a trial period. So a lot of companies hire young people without much experience, they paid them minimum wages and after a couple of months they let them go and start over with a different person. Funniest of all is that the company gets money from the government for hiring young people, so basically they get free labour, 2 months at a time. Then they wonder why there are so many young people unemployed

I recently joined an international tech company (my first dev job after my masters degree) and they have been hiring anywhere between 12-80 new people every month for the last year and a half, here are some key facts let me know what you think! • new hires out of uni(masters level) preferably with a second language • depending on language will be sent to work in Germany Belgium or France • you get put on a project for a customer of the company (it’s a consulting company with customers like BMW Airbus VW... • apparently salary is a bit lower than the average for education and experience • it’s basically a lottery what project you get on, some people hate their projects or got put on one‘s they explicitly said they did not want, I like my project though it has been a tough two months • there was a clause in the contract(got removed last week) that if you leave you have to pay back money (2 grand after two months, rising up to 8 grand after 12 months, then going back down to 2 grand after 24 months) many people were unhappy about this - their reasoning was the training you get on the job would have to be paid back if you left. • the training is a month of team building and consulting skills workshops in Geneva ( not bad you get to build a robot with arduino), a Udemy for business licence and a Rosetta Stone licence Im quite happy with the job even though it’s pretty tough for my first dev job, lots of people didn’t like it though we had three people leave from my months hires Hope everyone gets a job they enjoy :)

If its limited you know for how long you work there and after that the company can create another contract to keep you there. And they cant kick you out for nothing but if they have to let you go for whatever reason ( maybe they ran out of money ) then they have to tell you that a few month before you have to leave so you have time to search for another job. Companies in germany are always searching vor DEVs, when i was at a job interview at my current job they asked if i have other interviews and that they have to talk about if they can afford me there and that they would call me in like 4 weeks... and if i got a job offer from someone else i should call them to speed up. The next day the CEO already called me and said i got the job and he sent me the contract to look if i like it. excuse my english, not my first language and i have no trust in google translate :D TLDR: Germany i much safer for employees.

Hey Josh , I have been watching your videos and you are doing really great in posting videos . But one suggestion I have for many people is that if you are good resource , then the company will never loose them . And in worst case of they have budget issues and loose job . We can get job very easily as we have right skills . Bottom line is , if you have right skills in market , then there are many jobs . Need to be gone in coding , and have right skills .

If it isn't someone is completely screwed and needs you to bail them out.
