1:10:22 - Another reason why Inzektor got murderized was that at this point we were still sharing the same Banlist as the OCG so banlist changes that we got for the West were made based off of Japan's Meta and not ours which reflected in what decks were widely played between the two regions. At this time the OCG didn't have Wind-up Shark yet so their Wind-Up Deck was considerably less good than ours and only saw play as the Hand Loop strategy whereas Inzektor was far and away the most played deck there which combined with their success at worlds led to Dragonfly/Hornet being hit. Funnily enough I also remember from back then that Japan *never* caught onto Chaos Dragons outside of one or two builds that topped on the local level and that was only after the TCG started to make the deck work. Mind you Chaos Dragon also had a rough Inzektor matchup and they didn't have TGU yet so their Chaos Dragon deck would never have been as good as ours.

Ignition Effect Priority might actually be a remnant of how they played in the original manga (or how monsters could take action during the time in Ancient Egypt whence the inspiration for Duel Monsters was taken). There (and maybe also in the Duel with the Labyrinth Twins) you often had monsters taking some action the very instant they were summoned, often before you could even see that they were on the (battle)field and only being seen once the dust settles. You could consider the activation of Ignition effects almost part of bringing them out. I guess it's fairer to let your opponent respond first but it kind of sucks that they failed to balance the game around that (then again, maybe this was inevitable).

I cant wait for the 2013 recap, that was when I came back to the game the first time and played competitive as an adult, I played original release through the OG Chaos format and because i was a broke middle-schooler I didnt have the chaos deck but that was where I first realized my skill for deckbuilding and I made Last Turn combo and cooked all the older kids with the $ chaos decks. These videos are so great and the nostalgia for an oldhead like me is so wonderful

@24:55 technically yes because toss format they split that one German ycs into two because they couldn't host that many people. One venue had over 4.1k players while the second one had over 2.3k and they made an entire second ycs on the spot.

i played in 2012.. Agent chaos, Cyber dragon future fusion turbo, Chaos, Bubble beat, Heiratic-Blue eyes, Dragunity-Blue Eyes, ninja-anti spell-dark simorg lock, Frog Obelisk , machina geargia, Skull Servant-Lightsworn-Chaos, and lastly Mermail... this YEAR WAS MY FAVORITE It was when i was in community college with all my friends and really had no real adult stresses. (I also still use photon strike bouncer for fun at locals). also someone stole my slifer that summer!!!!

This is the best format idc what anyone says , the ones after are not bad up until pendalums but this was most fun , soo many equally strong decks you can play and then the number of versions each deck could play was on another level , we need to play this format today

Its the format i was playing at locals the most. That Grandsoil Psychics deck in YCS Toronto was sweet. Still play Ninjas and Madolche to this day.

2012 makes me so sad because inzektor and hieratic never got a chance in the tcg, inzektor was missing lavalval chain, daigusto emeral, volcasaurus and blackship of corn to be more playable on top of just auto losing to dolkka.and hieratic didn't get Gustav until wayyyy too late.

#1 Rabbit's popularity was due to player mindset of the time and the ease of play. The deck had no "big brain" plays and for a lot of (bad) players, one negation + backrow was the end all be all. #2 Wind-Up was by far the best deck but the format doesn't get enough praise for how fluid it was. Tournament results didn't truly indicate it but deck building kept evolving week to week, month to month. Great for Yu-Gi-Oh's growth. #3 Hieratic was an immensely powerful deck that was missing all of its good cards from OCG. No Gustav Max, Volcasaurus, and Pleiades were huge hits to the deck. I could rant on and on about this topic but March 2012 was the beginning of great Yu-Gi-Oh and a more evolved style of gameplay. This idea that the game almost died during the time is completely wrong.

I HATED Inzektor at the time. Felt like there was never a right way to play against them. Commit too much, get punished, don't commit enough, get punished. I was fine with getting wind up looped in comparison. Still, mid 2011 to early 2012 was when I truly got into going to locals and playing competitively so I still have major nostalgia for the era.

Player ignition priority basically let you cheat and add “quick effect” to any card that had an ignition effect. Shit was so dumb and ignorant. Legal cheating for years
