For the mulligan I think they are too focused on treating the proposed mechanic as if it were the card magical mallet where you choose what cards to shuffle back, whereas I think the more likely way it would be done is like the card reload where you shuffle back your entire hand and treat it like an all or nothing type deal Edit- literally right after I hit post farfa brought up partial vs full mulligan

first time i actually AGREE with Farfa, its BAD customer service to reprint a deck- make it cheaper and then kill it completly. Specially because it kills the ENGINE a splashable tool for other decks that have got a LVL 1 FIRE as if that wasnt obvious, the correct hit was to kill FLAMBERGE. Farfa is right on this one, Josh complains because hes a pro and is annoyed by the meta GAMEPLAY, but for CUSTOMERS yu-gi-oh has an awful design policy.

Tbh, the rarity collections have had a habit of being released before a banlist. They reprinted snake eyes in bonanza and then ban them. They also did the same with rao1 with Barrone and Savage as well so

Im hoping that eventually the takeaway of the rarity collections is that we can do that sort of thing with main sets too. Just keep slipping reprints of staples to keep them cheap, and then keeping the game affordable for everyone.

love that someone can complain about the forced necessity of non engine creating non games and then conclude that you should just make non games happen less with mulligans.... which would incentivize more non-engine being played. why cant people just identify the the problem is non engine? every day both konami and yugiohs playerbase makes complete buffoons of themselves by not making/calling for in archetype handtraps/boardbreakers

this 110% The problem has always been non engine, and it always will be. Decks that can take the most advantage of that fact without sacrificing too much in the process are unbeatable because of how powerful these non engine cards have become

@@ryanhall5360 engine cards or stuff with other forms of restriction that keep you playing specific cards is a million times easier to balance, staples should be for filling in some gaps in an archetype's strategy or helping them adapt to an unfavorable meta. the fact that nearly every deck is accessing many of the same small pool of generic cards *as their win condition* is just lazy design. genuinely feels like phoning it in cause they've got people used to the treadmill that is buying the strongest staples on release

Technically, it doesn't have to be in-archetype per se, cards just need to have more utility than just saying No to one thing or removing another.

The Fuwalos price discussion is lacking on both sides. It's just like stocks. If you're sitting on a hoard of shares for purely mercantile reasons, you need to move them before you lose all that value. Even if you want to keep your position in a company, you sell into a decline because you're hoping to offload your stocks before they lose too much value and because you plan to buy back in at the nadir of drop. It isn't bizarre at all to see people reacting to distant future information, it's the expected behavior.

i think farfa is right with how konami baned. like just because someone runes out shooting random people and happens to shoot the worst criminal in history of time is he not suddenly not shoting randomly. snake eyes was just hated so much that people didn't care if it gets decimated when it didn't even matter anymore to hit it but konami probably would have done the exact same if snake eyes was a completely health deck for the format to push the next decks. results do not justify actions

I think a good compromise for mulligans in YGO is that the player going second can mulligan *one* card: when the game is about to start, the player going second can place one card on their bottom of the deck, then draw 1 card. I think this is a completely reasonable boost to going 2nd.

card of demise in true draco is designed to add imperial order dragonic diagram and pot of desires to your hand then when you use pot of desires is designed to not banish all the things you need while only drawing the things you need. it's so difficult to get goblin to actually do stupid shit that isn't already possible, it is currently highly winmore. 25:24 every time runick gets hit in MD I throw another party. 27:15 could not imagine why the deck that lets you hide all your S/Ts in your hand while cheating out protection for floodgates has so many hits on the banlist 28:30 we literally have 3 of every ruler, lets not unban dark matter. 29:05 yes, everyone was on dpe verte and celestials draw 2 was extremely impactful, but it's... probably fine for it to come off. 33:00 fun fact with mathmech, circular is banned in TCG in a world where maliss is doing it's board and more without cyberse locking/1 monster battle locking on their first card activating, terahertz also pairs REALLY well against kashtira and tenpai simps with defenser, aggregator etc.

I’m actually so confused why is Josh gaslighting people saying that he hated Snakes Eyes? He was its biggest defender when the deck came out, it wasn’t until he understood what everyone was saying about the deck being so many one card starters and having so much room for hand traps that he finally realized the issue. Idk why farfa stumbled so hard to explain in in simplest way: Konami refused to touch it during it's cancerous peak and only kill it when it's been powercreeped. So it's never about the health of the game, only business. I know it's been going like this for years now but it's a scummy practice and can't be tolerated no more going forward.

Mulliganing would straight up ruin Yugioh. Archetypes are already designed to be hyper consistent, taking away any sort of variance would basically ensure that the going first player would win as close to 100% of the time as possible. I agree that part of skill expression in Yugioh is the choices you make in deckbuilding to include or not include certain cards, determining what the optimal ratio of engine to non-engine is to minimize bricking, etc. I side with Josh on this- the only way mulliganing would work in Yugioh is if it's exclusive to the going second player, you have to mulligan your whole hand, and a bunch of blowout non-game cards like Shifter are banned or at least limited.

They should release a broken deck unchecked for like 2-3 months reprint the mains for that deck and slightly diminish its power level so everyone can at least try and play the best deck in a slightly weaker form. Ban list and reprints should happen about the same time.

The muligan discussion showcases how the yugioh community just can't discuss any topic like this. It always just ends up with "it would ruin the game, I don't know how but it would". Same thing people were saying about the knightmares, Master Peace, Ib. Even cards like Change of Heart and Snatch Steal. The YuGiOh community just seems so against any expirement that changes any aspect of the game even if they don't enjoy it.

Hottest take: Tenpai was fine. The bans were too much. Either of the two would be fine, or maybe put them both to 2 and Paidra to 2. Tenpai was the solution of going second for once. Usually, if tenpai gets the right interruption, they're cooked, UNLESS of course you play the Mulcharmies, which were the real problem. The "600$" tenpai (Charmies, Dominus) might be unfair, but its because of those cards and not the deck itself. Yes, the deck does WAY too much damage, but that's its only play. Most decks setting up a good board cannot be easily broken without Fuwalos and Purulia drawing you 20 cards.

Josh has been very outspoken for his dislike of Snake-Eyes/Yubel format for a long time and in this video even agreed that Flamberge would have been the better ban. He just thinks the format is healthier without SE. I really don't think he said something he didn't believe himself here. If you disagree with him and it's impacting you to the point of getting angry it might really be better for yourself if you stop watching, I just disagree with your assessment. I knew Josh would be happy with the OSS ban as soon as I saw the list.

The solution is to make them affordable off rip instead of using artificial scarcity to sell product. That's what OCG does with multiple rarities, but TCG loves to milk their paypigs. You also have to be concerned when TCG reprints good cards now, because they have a habit of banning them when they finally become affordable. It's just a mess, I have no idea why anyone would bother with this when you can play Master Duel or other sims for free.
