Nice! To have a solid strength foundation is one of the main steps to become better in any sport, in my opinion. And not just in sport, but even to get old better and auto sufficient This kind of multi joints movement is the way to get there. One question: I noticed the The Encyclopedia of Underground Strength and Conditioning from Zach Even-Esh. I have this in my shopping cart. It is still up to date?

WORD!!!🙌🏽 and yes! That book is still up to date! It is not a "science", but the methods and principles are all rooted in time tested methods of building strength!

Im 185 6,2 and want to forget weight classes now and be the best i can be. Everyone recommends strength plans and low reps. I was wondering if you would recommend just simply training for muscle gains and higher reps 8-12 and adding size for a year or so and strength training once I'm bigger? Looking long term not just peaking for a comp etc.

How long do you plan on training to build more muscle? I think you can still pack on some serious muscle and continue to get stronger, while also actively competing. It will take careful planning and workout programming to ensure you make adequate progress from year to year but it's possible 💪🏽 I'd suggest alternating between spending your "off-season" between big tournaments focusing on 8-12 weeks of hypertrophy // muscle building, followed by 8-12 weeks of strength development. After that you can go through a "recomp" phase if you need to, or prep for a big tournament.

@@joshuasettlage thankyou for the response man! Amazes me that this channel only has as many views as it does!? Such good information! I plan to train and compete for a long time yet I'm 26 now. Oh ok! I will wait till after summer and these comps and swap between a good 8 week hypertrophy and a strength plan too and see how far i can push it! Thankyou so much for the response and such a detailed one too! Got to take advantage before this channel blows up! Haha 🤙🤙

Hi Josh! Have a question if you could answer, have a new bjj athlete now, he has 8 weeks till his big competition. Should I do some GPP with him for like 2 week and then 6 weeks of like 'in camp' or just use 8 weeks as 'in camp'. He was in training all the time but just like normal FBW workouts
@joshuasettlage
@joshuasettlage Жыл бұрын
I have some videos on my channel that break down how to train for an upcoming competition. For s & c work, if he already has a solid base of GPP, you can go right into camp. If not, you may need to include a few weeks of a work up / acclimation phase before diving into training camp.

I love the content and agree that no one has lost because they were too strong but I think if I were weaker I may not have tore my bicep off…

Hold up, are you saying you tore your bicep because you were too strong?🤔

@@joshuasettlage I am just playing. Obviously strength has to be great enough to create enough force to tear but a better training would have made it more resilient. I actually believe that the trouble was from residual strength Letting me think that I can still lift as heavy as I used to when I haven’t been training for a couple years at the time.

The only people who tell you strength doesn't matter in BJJ are the ones who are already vastly stronger than you and probably just want you wasting your time thinking more mat time is going to enable you to catch them.
