A few words of advice from a long time audiophile to beginners that are looking for good value: 1.) Never buy expensive cables with expectations of better sound and/or performance 2.) Never buy an amp/dac that is more expensive than your headphones 3.) Get the very best headphones you can afford from the start, and if you can't afford them yet, wait and save more money (It will end up saving you a TON of money in future upgrades)

2 might be arguable given some models out there. From the HD600 (which actually require tons of current to "wake up") to the HE-6 (which scale extremely well)

@@barchetype6430 Definitely an age old argument.. However there are a number of amp/dac combos that can efficiently power an hd600 for around $200. My stance is that if a headphone requires an amp/dac that is more expensive than itself, it's no longer a "good valued" headphone. Even in the case of the $1300 He-6 (a difficult headphone to drive), a schiit stack should perform at least 95% as well as any the absurdly overpriced amp/dac combos on the market. The argument/question has always been "how much are you willing to pay for that last 5% of performance?.... My stance on the subject is clear, but there are some people that would pay an infinite amount of money chasing that extra 5%. Either way, value is subjective I guess...

@@x32i77 The former is alright but does not particular aid the AB-1266s in their inherent weakness. I would argue the Flux FA-10pro, or perhaps their upcoming VOLOT may be of better help. The ABs require a neutral amplifier of thin tonality capable of vigorous amperage swings to be brought to their full potential. It is said that the RAAL HSA-1A really helps the SR-1As with their bass problems. Therefore a well-fed HSA-1A using a rather very realistic DAC (ECDesigns DA96ETF or Audiobyte Hydra Stack) should do for a heart-skipping performance. Susvara demands power. So the $5K Audio GD Class A Monoblocks would do well. The T+A hangs more around the Kennerton Wodan league at Susvara prices and Audeze Weight.

This is an amazing start to a great series of videos. I think laying out exactly the path people can take with either upgrade paths or even downgrade paths is perfect. It can get very overwhelming when first researching a lot of this stuff, and having to look at reviews for each individual item can get quite fatiguing. However, this series I think will be a perfect jumping point for beginners and veterans alike because it can help newer people know where to start and give them confidence in their purchase, but it can also help veterans who are looking to upgrade or change. I think something that can help your video out a lot is more comparisons. You make amazing comparisons, so having alternative routes can really round out the information you are trying to give. Thanks for the great content!

@@testalino Well, Schiit's entire line of both amps and DACs beat similarly-priced Topping offerings in every audible way. Hell, even their cheaper stuff competes favorably against Topping's higher end stuff. Topping engineers care about one thing: Measurements. They even pack measurements with the rest of the gear paperwork. But distortion is not the determining factor of sound quality. In fact, it doesn't much matter at all unless it's severely high and with a poor pattern, i.e. increased levels of higher-order distortion. Measuring shit 70dB below the limits of human hearing is completely irrelevant. Topping gets by on consumer ignorance and shills like Amir at ASR. Don't support them.

I've been seeing you in my recommended videos for a while now and watching videos here and there. I am subscribing today, finally, because of this series. I think it's genius and will provide a lot of value for viewers who are unsure what hardware is a good option for a given price point (me included).

This confirms what I pictured for my first real build separate from the Fiio M11pro I'm currently running my 6xx's on. This type of content I find particularly useful from a newbies perspective, because unlike a single product review, it goes over a lot of compatibility differences and upside/downsides that are otherwise hard to define early in the game. I'm into more like these for sure

I absolutely love this kind of a show/series, hopefully fun high end pairings like planars or dynamic drivers with SS and Tube options.

This is a great idea. Really shows that the whole system is what matters, not one component in particular.

This was a super cool video! As a beginner to this space, I was glad to hear the pros and cons in a digestible format outside of being thrown terms I can’t translate but I also still find it hard to understand what some stuff means as someone just getting into audio.

Love this type of video. I think pairing gear is one of the hardest things, so that’s very insightful info. Also the dark color of the hd6xx and black schiit looks awesome together

This this this man, I honestly feel system videos that show synergy that take the guessing out of a lot of the build is the exact Way to go man this adds so much value to someone even someone like myself who has a collection of headphones. Please do systems at different price points with different headphones synergy all that stuff I think this is great and to me this provides way more valuable insight than just reviewing a single headphones which I know you have to do but add these to your collection man well done

Great idea Josh. Would love to see other price ranges, $700 is a good starting point but I think a lot of your viewers probably already have a midfi setup. I just upgraded my system and a video like this for the $1500-2000 range would have been perfect!

Great Channel! . I went with the Magnius and Modius for the optical in on the dac and the balance out on the amp for my speakers. I am currently trying to figure out what headphones to pair with this this stack. In the past I have never bothered with a good set of headphones, so this site has been great for helping me out.

Really great idea for video's Josh... As a beginner in the audiophile rabbit hole, it's all a bit daunting... so much tech all doing various things without much info at a beginner level on how it all works together, so it's great to see it presented this way. Also, always appreciate great, considered cinematography. Bang on

I love this series. Finding synergy in a system is tough. I found it in mine finally, but it's a process. This will help lots of people. My setup: The Sennheiser HD660S Headphones, Feliks Echo Tube Amp, and Audiolab M-Dac.

This is a great concept for a series. A few other people have done things like this, John Darko and The Audiophiliac for two, but I'd love to hear your take and recommendations. Two things I really liked about your approach were adding in the extra bits that people would need and talking about what the "next step" would be, both up and down. Thanks for another great video!

I just ordered both of these plus some cables. I'm loving this new "all-in-one" take on the review since many questions are addressed in the video, however the more items you cover the less in depth you will be able to go. I wish you would have address the single ended limitations/disparity within the Magnius from the main event which is the great balanced offering at a reasonable price. Truly enjoy your presentations! Cheers!
