Here are some materials I use. If you want to support me, consider purchasing them via these links.
The paints I use are 'Old Holland' from Dutch factory 'Scheveningen'. These have a very high pigment load and are very thick. This way you can add your medium of choice, without thinning the paint too much. I usually get 225ml tubes which saves about 30%. The tubes last a long time, on average I use about 1 225ml tube a year for each color. The set I use, in the actual order I have them on my palette:
Titanium white: 40ml: amzn.to/34lTQkH 225ml: amzn.to/3c9EjqR
Scheveningen yellow lemon: 40ml: amzn.to/2JVWMuE 225ml: amzn.to/2xYFWc2
Cadmium yellow deep: 40ml: amzn.to/3c3rpud 225ml: amzn.to/3aXmlaS
Scheveningen orange: 40ml: amzn.to/2UWmR3e 225ml: amzn.to/2Rmxwlp
Scheveningen red medium: 40ml: amzn.to/3aWu1dx 225ml: amzn.to/2xkaQvk
Alizarin crimson: 40ml: amzn.to/2V9kNne 225ml: amzn.to/3eaIrZi
Dioxazine mauve: 40ml: amzn.to/2JUxmxz 225ml: amzn.to/3eeIhQX
Ultramarine blue deep: 40ml: amzn.to/2RrAwgv 225ml: amzn.to/39SutYV
Transparent oxide red: 40ml: amzn.to/2Rkf5ht 225ml: amzn.to/39WSKwS
Scheveningen green deep: 40ml: amzn.to/39Rrsb3 225ml: amzn.to/2wwSPK8
Sap green lake extra: 40ml: amzn.to/2xk9ctE 225ml: amzn.to/2Vdv0zj
Ivory black 40ml: amzn.to/2JVYcFu 225ml: amzn.to/2UURoye
Occasionally I use a small amount of this very saturated blue/green, but I don't keep it on my palette: Scheveningen blue: 40ml: amzn.to/2ViAPLA 225ml: amzn.to/2RrCFZB
My standard medium that I've been using lately, consists of equal parts venetian turpentine and linseed oil:
Talens venetian turpentine amzn.to/3aVTBz3
W&N Stand oil amzn.to/3aUR5JC
W&N Linseed oil amzn.to/34pUpKn
Some brushes I use: cheap hog bristles for initial lay in, similar to these: amzn.to/2VxdYfL, long script liner brushes for details, eg. these Da Vinci ones: amzn.to/3a5Q0xb (size 10 or so). Other favorite brushes of mine are Rosemarys bristles, and Talens Van Gogh round ox hair brushes.

I would like to paint and follow alone with your video, the question I have is if painting from this video comes out halfway decent can I post it or sell it?
@josvanr
@josvanr 2 жыл бұрын
NO :) You'll have to make your own compositions.. It is much more fun that way, anyway. Also, I wouldn't paint from a photograph or video. Use the video just to get a general idea of the order in which to work (Drawing first, then the darkest / most saturated parts etc).... good luck!

Can you tell me please, what is rod or bar that we sometimes see across the screen? It seems you lean your hand on it. How does that work?
@josvanr
@josvanr 7 ай бұрын
hi Jenet, it is just a simple rod with a square cross section, with a 2 inch rod glued to it on one end, to make an angle. The painting sits on a big wooden board on the easel, and I can latch the rod onto the big wooden board to provide horizontal support.

Why do you use venetian turpentine ?
@josvanr
@josvanr 3 жыл бұрын
hello! This stuff is less slippery than oil, but more glue-like (tacky). It allows paint to be put on top of wet paint more easily..

You are very good compliments, I really appreciate your works also because I love Dutch painting. I would like to ask you please what kind of pencil do you use for the preparatory phase of your drawings? I see that after you delete but the stretch remains. I thank you for the answer. Good job. Leo
@josvanr
@josvanr 3 жыл бұрын
thnx! Well usually I draw with a regular penci (8b), then when the drawing is correct I re trace the lines with a pigment marker, and erase the pencil..

If you purchase his "Clementines Bottle" video, his comments cover everything he is doing in his video. They are long so I skipped through to the different comments but they are worth the $12 or $10 euro. I'm sure his newest video covers more and you cannot beat the prices of his videos.

Masterful.Can I ask what do you use for your sketch drawing please?
@josvanr
@josvanr 4 жыл бұрын
hello! Thnx... For more elaborate compositions like this I usually use 8b graphite pencil. I have a 2mm mechanical pencil similar to www.gerstaecker.nl/Koh-I-Noor-vuloen-2-nn.html . After the drawing I trace it with a pigment marker and erase the pencil lines..

Absolutely beautiful! Another great video Jos, thanks! By the way, what type of pencil are you using for the line drawing? I thought graphite could bleed through oil?
@josvanr
@josvanr 6 жыл бұрын
thnx! initially yes regular graphite, but i then trace it with a pigment marker (acrylic) and erase the graphite...

Did you start with that charcoal grey and orange (darkest - lightest) so you would know the value range? If so do you always begin a painting that way?
@josvanr
@josvanr 6 жыл бұрын
Hello! Yes I usually find it difficult to estimate the value and chroma range of the paint so I just start with a few touches of the lightest/darkest and most saturated elements...

@@ProfessorBraus yes exactly, bushes usually shed some hairs into thepaint. You can blow them out with an air compressor

yes the air blows away hairs and particles that stick in the wet paint. It does move the paint a bit..
