I feel the need to point out that there's every possibility that Dio learned Chinese from Wang Chun, albeit it would be 19th century Chinese. He could also conceivably have learned Japanese from Giorno's mother. There's precedent for Pillar Men being able to learn languages near-instantly so while it's not explicit that vampires can do the same it's at least possible.

This video actually does raise an interesting thought experiment: What would happen if one recreated the entirety of Jojo, but characters couldn’t speak each other’s primary language? With added linguistic realism, the whole story overall would pivot really quickly at around part 2 due to the German characters being unable to effectively communicate with their American and Italian counterparts. The pillarmen would also be impossible for anyone to communicate with due to them most likely communicating in a language that’s been dead for hundreds of years at that point. Through that alone, the rest of Jojo might not have even taken place. And, as a result, the Jotaro VS Dio fight might not have even happened.

I think some of the Germans would know English, and the pillar men are quick learners so it wouldn’t be too hard for them to communicate with Joseph. It would be interesting if someone redid jojos but altered the language so the spoke the correct language at the right times (like jotaro switching to English for his grandfathers sake but speaking Japanese with kakyoin)

This reminds me of a creative writing project I was working on. My main character wants to create her own gang, so she travels to different countries to recruit and whatever. She speaks English, Lingala and some French, but she mainly uses a translator and makes an effort to learn a few things so that she can communicate. So yeah, there's a lot of language barriers. Even though it's set in some kind of alternate universe that's Hunter x Hunter inspired, every country has their own language. Its set in around 2020 though, so there is the use of modern technology that everyone can use.

Also according to rest of this comment section, English is frequently taught as a second language in Egypt, and as a fortune teller it would make sense for him to speak the language of tourists. 3. Jotaro is half-American and could have learned English from hearing his mom speak it at home. 4. Kakyoin is like really smart. 5.
