Journalism is the collection and distribution of news, and today, a largevpart comes through social media and is less objective than 20 years ago.As it has a wide viewership, it has great influence in shaping public opinion, it importance therefore cannot be underrated. There is no attempt to ensure that the news is either objective or impartial or has the semblance of truth. It can be used to enhance the power of the rich or to marginalise sections of the populations who are not, or are in a " lower" class, ( eg. women), and dissidents with independent views which do not conform with the public.

"There is no attempt to ensure that the news is either objective or impartial or has the semblance of truth." You must be joking. Just about every legitimate, standards-based newsroom strives to be both accurate and fair. They will always fall short of these ideals, but wow ... saying that there is "no attempt" is beyond absurd.
