Yes “Purple Rain” same notes the song might not have happened without a little cooperation from the members of Journey. Prince was concerned and notified Journey.... I don’t want you to sue me.” but After listening, Cain says, “I thought it was an amazing tune, and I told him, ‘Man, I’m just super-flattered that you even called. It shows you’re that classy of a guy. Good luck with the song. I know it’s gonna be a hit.’

“Faithfully” was a huge hit for them. Journey started as a project offshoot with two members from Santana. The guitar gunslinger from San Fran hired at age 15, Neal Schon, (played Woodstock with Carlos) along with Hammond Organ, Piano and first vocalist Greg Rollie along with original drummer Ansley Dunbar recorded a couple of records that were mostly instrumental. Then here’s the second iteration of the group adding Steve Perry on vocals and Steve Smith on drums. There’s a great duet with Greg and Steve, called “Just The Way You Love Me,” before Greg left Journey (in good hands btw), replaced by former Baby’s pianist/songwriter Johnathan Cain. Steve Perrys’ vocal high wire act with Neal’s guitar shredding has created quite a healthy catalog. The “Frontiers” album has some heavier slammin tunes. Like Zeppelin, you could do their discography and not be disappointed at all. Try the Official videos of “When You Love A Woman,” (made to look like an in studio performance) and Official concert and album version of “Girl Can’t Help It.” The harmony’s are insane!

@@Rock_Snob Wow! Mind blown just thinking of the possibilities. One of my favorite solo projects from Neal is the album, “I on U.” The solo and outro on the song “Father” is one of many high points on a really great instrumental LP. I’m glad I saw him at different times in his career. Would have loved seeing him playing as a teen, don’t know if there’s anything on tape or KZbin to checkout?

Hard to believe this beautiful song is 40 years old this year! This song came out before Purple Rain. In fact, Prince contacted Journey because he was worried Purple Rain sounded too much like Faithfully. Jon Cain keyboards for Journey wished him well with the song Purple Rain. Saw Journey live in 1983. I remember Steve Perry singing this song. He sounded even better live. Journey On.

I have NEVER been a Jon Cain fan, whatsoever. He is weak. before he got into Journey he was a nobody and he did NOT contribute any of the salient, or even, tastiest, work to his brief tenure in (at the extreme tail-end of) The Babys [sic] (after the label; basically, created their demise, aforehand!)! [Greg Rolie is, by far, the better keyboard player [organ, piano, ANYTHING!!!!} and a better vocalist, too (I'm not saying that Cain "is terrible," or something! No. ...but Rolie is better. Always has been. Still is.] ...However: I CANNOT take THIS one from Cain. No-one can. "Faithfully" is, yes: "a perfect romantic ballad." Soulful. Romantic. Heartfelt. Majestic, without being (in any sense) 'egotistical.'! ...nearly "elegiac" 🤷🤷(it has this sense of melancholy, topped by a vast, indescribably, passionate love and faith). ...This (yes: much like "Purple Rain"!!!!-which "Faithfully" precedes by about a year, in fact. 👍) is, not only a love song you want to dedicate to your beloved, but, in fact, a song you want to find someone who matches the intimate power and dedicated affection and closeness effected, demonstrated, brought-to-life by and IN this song. You want to find the someone who, actually, truly IS what this song means, to dedicate it to/play it for! ...it, also, quite astutely (if not "perfectly", (I always hesitate to use that term!!) encapsulates/reflects the tribulations and experiences of: being a working musician on the road, longing to get home to someone who CANNOT, always, be there, with you and whom YOU want to let know/make certain that THEY know/believe/understand that: THEY mean more than words can say, to you. It is an ardent dedication of authentic loyalty. --Additionally: Frontiers is the "biggest"-sounding Journey album. It was pushing all of the 'sonic templates of the time" (as well as those, just, being developed)! It was, adamantly, "louder"and more "over-the-top"/"in-your-face" (see: a spastic, kick-myself-in-the-balls rocker such as: "Rubicon" for eg.!)! It isn't a typcial Journey album and its sounds TOO big and TOO loud! (in most areas/on most songs). "Faithfully" traverses those same trails, but, for some reason: it succeeds (where other parts of the album are "overbaked" -like dry cake or chicken or pork chops. !)! ...so: don't kid yourself. Escape is, really, "THE 'arena rock' album of the 1980s" (that would be the album just before this one.).

I saw Journey and what an INCREDIBLE show! Steve was a ball of fire running up and down ramps all night. Not to mention his VOICE .. Side note...my first husband was luring me from my first love (rock & roll) into country. ( Gotta admit Emmylou Harris sings like an angel) but the first time I heard Steve Perry's voice, that DID IT for me. I was like, " Who IS that guy?????" Haven't looked back. Took a few detours...RIP, Jimmy Buffett...Jackson Browne. ( He is still living!) I can't think of all the good ones. Even love me some bluegrass. But my heart still belongs to R&R.
