Here's a tip to catch fish more consistently: put on some headphones, and close your eyes. You're looking to press "A" right when you hear a "bloop" sound. The human brain reacts faster to sound than light.

TJTroubleMaker Try catching the fish with your eyes closed...I think it’s easier to listen for the “bloop” sound than to look for the splash! I rarely lose a fish that way

Here's a tip, if you use fish bait on top of a fish shadow it scares it off before spawning the next one. It's much faster than catching or trying to chase off the ones you aren't after.

My trick to nearly never missing a fish (by pressing A too soon) is looking away from the screen and purely relying on audio and vibration triggers. Press A only on Hearing that loud dunk/splosh sound. That way I’m not tempted by the pressure of catching the fish too quickly if I can’t see it going towards the bob.

Pro tip: Don’t rest your thumb on the a button while fishing. Hover it at least a centimeter over the button so even if you twitch you don’t accidentally press the button. It will be close enough so that when you actually do need to press the button your finger doesn’t have far to travel and you’ll still be able to press it fast enough you won’t have any problems

Wisp is one of those Japanese water spirit thingies I think, so it only appears on rainy days. Doesn't have to be raining when it shows up, but rain at all. I have 60 bait in storage waiting for tonight. I burned through 40+ yesterday and at least 30 most nights this week. The stringfish is the bane of my existence.

One tip is that you can just stand still and keep throwing bait in the same spot till it spawns the shadow size you want. You don't have to scare or catch the unwanted sized fish.

I just caught mine. Good luck catching them. Also if you notice an island with many waterfalls and three layers of water that's a good way to catch these fish. It's also an island I've gotten many times, but just found out about its crazy fish. No fishbait required.

I was searching for a golden trout, finally got it after around 70-80 bait at the top of a waterfall on the 3rd level of my island, came down to the mouth of the waterfall after finally catching the trout and saw a big shadow, thought what the hell and attempted to catch, it turned out to be a stringfish. So I found my golden trout and then my stringfish immediately after, I couldn’t believe the luck😂

I really wouldn't bother with fish bait.. at least not for this fish. As someone who went through 300-400 bait hunting the Stringfish, I can tell you the best way to catch it (by far) is to buy nook miles tickets until you get a clifftop river island. The islands are small enough that despawning smaller fish is much easier. I spent days gathering bait and hunting the Stringfish, but when I tried this method, I nabbed it in probably 30 minutes.

You can make this easier by soft resetting before the game auto saves after 3 mins. You can get in about 15-20 bait before it autosaves so if you soft reset, you'll get all your bait back.

Im nearly 100 bait in, I'm currently on a river fish island, I ran out of bait so I can't force spawns anymore, and I've caught 6 sturgeons but no stringfish.

That means you are baiting in the wrong area. Sturgeons only spawn in the river mouth (the part that meets the sea). You have to use a ladder to get up in elevation to get to the river that can have the Stringfish.

I tend to take my thumb off the a button because I tend to spazz out and press it as soon as the fish tries to attach. As soon as I hear the biting sound I press it. That’s how i don’t lose fish as often!!

I have to wait for December to catch string fish because I think time traveling is cheating. I caught 58/80 fish and started playing on may 10. Last fish I need to catch for month is a Saw Shark. String fish is basically a winter version of dorado but more rare. Dorado are quit common on my island so I hope I don’t have too much trouble catching the string fish. I caught golden trout right after unlocking the ladder which I consider so luck6 because people spent several day searching for it.
