I have to agree. I wish they kept Steve. I love journey but one big criticism I have is with their personnel changes. They’ve made some bad decisions over the years. No one could ever replace Steve Perry's vocal talents. That being said, Steve Augeri made a great effort and overall, I truly believe this album was very under-rated. It has some great songs on it, with this track being one of the best rockers Journey had done in years. Augeri was not only a good singer, but the man was a total class act and a very nice guy to boot. I sent him an e-mail once and actually got an e-mail back from him...not from an answering service or a web assistant. We talked about family and his voice issues....even about where I was from. I was floored when I received the e-mail and even questioned it being genuine. I really think he got a raw deal from Journey but that's a whole other long discussion. Glad Augeri's voice is better and he is back doing what he loves to do.

+MrMike9158 I couldn't agree more! I had the pleasure to attend a private party that Augeri sang at in Houston. He is as you said, a total gentleman and class act. He actually took time out to speak and hang out with those that attended the event. I've always believed that he took on Journey with complete respect for what Perry brought to the table and then added his own unique sound. It makes me so upset when I hear others bash him for trying to be a "copy-cat." No you idiots, he's a true authentic musician that had a great gig with an awesome band.
@MrMike91589 жыл бұрын
+isabellamaria914 Hi Isabella. Thank you for replying to my post. Yes, Steve Augeri is a very nice person. He is very down to earth and despite the fact that he has a beautiful gift in his voice, he just comes across as someone you would enjoy talking to. He is a good example that money does not buy class. Steve never had any desire to be a "copy cat" to Steve Perry and only sang the "hits" as he was instructed to do by Neil Schon. With Steve Augeri being a true Tenor and Steve Perry actually being a Counter-Tenor, it wasn't a natural fit (especially the extended higher ranges) and this is what hurt his voice so bad. I am so glad he is back singing songs in a key he was meant to sing in surrounded by people who actually care about him instead of what he can do for them. Take care.

Drummer stuff: notice how at around 0:24 Castronovo checks out the hardness of his sticks, and later at 1:41 he tosses his right stick and swiftly grabbed another one, while still maintaining the groove. Surely he felt something wrong with that stick and discarded it. An event that almost went unnoticed.

It makes those same people b-- and make a big deal about “no new material,” or whatever. Okay, did they purchase this new release when it came out? Or did they just have a temper tantrum? Guys, I don't see a point in spamming all the Journey videos with opinions on who was the best: Perry, Augeri or Arnel. Don't you realise that this song embodies the true spirit of Journey like no other? Let me explain: I am talking about Journey's logo: scarab beetle. I don't know who chose it to be the band's logo but he couldn't have chosen better. In ancient Egypt scarab beetle was a symbol of a worker, rolling a turd ball for eternity. But at some point he would spread his wings and become one of the incarnations of god Amon. To put it simply, there would come a moment that this little fella would realise that he is destined to do things greater than rolling a turd ball for eternity, he would spread his wings and fly trying to reach his dreams. He was a symbol of hope for simple people; hope that one day they would be also able to abandon their miserable lifes and reach the sun. And that's what this song is about: a man who lives a quiet boring life, who at some point realises that this isn't the way he's supposed to live because perhaps there are greater things awaiting him and sets off on his own journey to find a Higher Place. And this is what many other Journey songs are about, this is what this whole band has always been about: hope for a better life and chasing your dreams. Oh wow, wasn't that a long comment. Hope someone will read it

Deen Castronovo has pleaded guilty in a domestic violence case and has been sentenced to probation and counseling. Court records show that Castronovo, 58, of Salem pleaded guilty to two counts of fourth-degree domestic violence assault, two counts of domestic violence menacing, one count of unlawful use of a weapon and one count of coercion. Castronovo has been sentenced to four years of supervised probation with a requirement that he undergo counseling for drug abuse and for domestic violence offenders. If Castronovo breaks his probation, he faces a sentence of more than five years in prison. He is a criminal, not a victim. He is not a nice person, but he is an ok drummer. LMFAO.

+Kimber Thomas Kimber, I wasn't meaning to complain or compare. I was just lucky enough to hear Journey live from when they played the bar/club scene (before Steve Perry) to their prime years and in his prime, Perry's voice and vocal range was something to marvel at. I wasn't disrespecting either Augeri or Pinada. In Journey's case, with all due respect, I wish it was about the "music". For the fans, maybe. But for the band (and most classic bands)...they aren't making money selling albums. They make their money touring the hits with sound-a like singers. No disrespect meant...just a fact of life. Neil Schon can tune a guitar but a vocalist who is over 60 can't "tune" voice. I do understand and respect your opinion.

Steve Augeri will perhaps never get the credit he deserves. He's just terrific. Great song and man, what power! The only criticism I have (and it's minor) is this ... why has Neil never learned to use his little finger when playing leads? I suspect it may because he's self-taught.

So I think I got it all in place now No distractions under control Yet there's something missing inside me I'm chasing shadows of myself And the clocks are ticking Oh my world is spinning Spinning 'round and 'round And 'round and 'round again And I try I try to reason why Don't you know I can't go on this way Baby please don't walk away there is this place Where I toss away my pride So you can see that I'm the one To take you to a higher place this time I am on the outside looking in To a place where I will be Let me give you what you need from me I surrender my soul to you And my heart is pounding And a fire's burning And my head is spinning, 'round and 'round again And I try I try to reason why Don't you know I can't go on this way Baby please don't walk away there is this place Where I toss away my pride So you can see that I'm the one To take you to a higher place this time Oh, I crash, and burn inside my mind It happens time and time again, I can't explain the way you make me feel Oh, I know, I don't have much to give But what I have I give to you with all the madness left inside of me With the madness left inside of me, oh And I try I try to reason why Don't you know I can't go on this way Baby please don't walk away there is this place Where I toss away my pride So you can see that I'm the one To take you to a higher place this time

Oh my Steve A..i have hesitate to buy any Journey album..but the first one i ever pick up is Arrival and i am floored..not only is the vocals good but the excitement i got from the whole album takes me really to a Higher Place. And yes Steve Augeri does comes across as a nice guy which is quite rare from anyone in such a big rock band.🤗

Exactly. Isn't it weird that one of the best albums, especially where Schon is concerned, goes largely ignored today? Schon worked his guitar like never before for this album. Listen to Live and Breathe and every other song on Arrival. Never has so much work gone into such forgotten guitar work.

Deen is amazing then, and still today in 2023! This was during a time when Steve A. Could actually sing, sounded really good on that album, in studio atleast ..

Great song, and agree so underrated. Imo the band never sounded so good and Augeri had a great sound with Dean pounding those drums..and man his vocals were superb too. Hard to find a drummer that can sing like that. Maybe if he sang more Steve would have been able to save his voice, who knows.

Never heard this song before or much else from the Augeri days but this is a damn good song. Very much in the classic Journey vein.

When i was like, seven, my dad gave me his old busted up phone, it didn't even work as an actual phone but i adored it, and on the phone he had a saved version of this video and i would listen to it on loop constantly, it was favourite thing, and watching this just gave me so much nostalgia for that

Wonderful song. Love the space-rock intro, a hark back to their early years. It all sounds great, Neal monstrously melodic playing sending it into another galaxy.

Drop D tuning. D minor song and riff. Love it. Love to hear Augeri and Arnel sing songs not written by and for Steve Perry in the post-Perry period. They just sing the song sounding only like themselves--without being forced to sound like Perry on the Perry-era Journey songs. Augeri and Arnel are great singers in their own right.

Had Augeri not lost his voice in 2006, he would be the lead singer of Journey today
