Journey is: Steve Perry (Vocals), Neal Schon (Guitar), Jonathan Cain (Keyboards), Ross Valory (Bass), Steve Smith (Drums)

Also. Lead Guitarist is Neal Schon. He was in the group Santana in the very early ‘70’s…he was only 15 when he was with them. Gregg Rolie was with him and is the vocalist in the song ‘Black Magic Woman’. After Santana broke up, Neil and Greg started journey. Greg was with them until 1980. He left to start a family, he was tired of touring. He helped to hire the blonde man, Jonathan Cain, before he left. Check out the album “Evolution“ from I think 1979. It’s my favorite. Absolutely incredible. The bass player is Ross Valory and early on Aynsley Dunbar was the drummer, but very shortly lived, and then Steve Smith is the drummer you hear, mostly. They are absolutely phenomenal, each one is a very, very, very talented musician, and their own right.

Classical voice coaches have studied Steve Perry’s voice, and they all agree it is phenomenal!! and they advise if you are a singer please don’t try to imitate his voice because it will never happen because of his range which you’re born with you can’t with 1 million voice lessons you can’t copy that man’s voice and everyone of them agree!! and sir, you were born in the wrong decades because we lived we had romance and beauty and love and togetherness!! which helped in relationships unbelievably! But you get it you get it you get all the work with the musicians and Steve that’s live with that basic rotten equipment they had back then! Today they’ve got nothing everything’s synthesized computerized, blah blah blah lip-synching I can’t feel get anything out of that. I can’t type my toes or cry.🍷🇮🇹💋

LOVE your reaction. Yes, the bands of the 80s and 90s were MUSICIANS. They took the time and effort to learn their craft. Neal Schon is a great guitarist and Steve Perry is the absolute GOAT of rock singers. You may not be able to see it clearly on this video, but Steve is actually wearing a tail coat or morning coat; it's a tuxedo that is cutaway on the front with long tails on the back. It's his trademark; he had that coat in numerous colours and patterns for most of his career. Later on in the concert, he'd put it aside for just the tee. Neal and Steve had a special chemistry of playing together that is pretty unique and was forever lost when Steve left the band in the 90s.

If you haven’t watched Journey’s ‘Mother Father’, do it! Live in Houston. LIVE. MOST BANDS cannot pull this off. Mother father is about a son who’s an addict/alcoholic…and ‘7th son’ is a reference to the 7th son in a family having mystical healing powers… how his addiction affects the family. the song is so unique and amazing

Steve Perry's voice was pure magic back then. Absolutely fantastic. Steve, Lou Gramm of Foreigner, and Freddy Mercury. Those three were the best. I wish I could've seen them live even though I was a kid. I was an MTV FREAK (thanks to my older sister). ❤❤

I don't know if you will see this, but no-one answered your question about the drummer adequately. He is Steve Smith, now one of the premiere drummers in the world. He is also a teacher who has posted some educational videos showing how he got some of the effects he used for these songs. He would use 3 pairs of tuned Toms to inject the melody into the drumlines.

I have not been impressed by much until recently getting into K-pop of all things! Live performances, great videos, vocals and choreo. They write meaningful music that reminds mr of this golden era. Love your Journey reactions. I hate to tell you this, but Steve Perry's (the singer) jacket is a man's high end tuxedo coat with tails which was "suave" trademark. Women stole the look from men's look back then as they fought to enter the workforce professional as professionals along beside men. It spilled onto every aspect. It 's a good reminder of the many aspects of the Civil Rights Movements i.e. women' rights that impacted fashion.

Why you know why people reminiscing about 50s right up to 90s music or before as those are the eras when true music was music, which today's music will never be. For me 80s was the ultimate best era.😎🎸🎵👌 I remember what I wore in the 80s and look back at old photos and thought, what the hell was I thinking when I wore them, but that's is the thing of every era, even today's fashion when you're a lot older, you look back and think WTF lol.😂. Steve has a legendary voice that nobody can repeat just like the music.

It was before Autotune ruined music. People today are discovering what actual music was like before RAP. Is kinda like a steady diet of canned Spam and tasting a T Bone Steak. They are referred as American Led Zeppelin. Amazing guitarist Neal Schon, keyboards and guitar like John Paul Jones with Jonathan Cain. John Bohnam drums on par with Steve Smith epic drums. Just like a voice that hits you in the face like Robert Plant we have Steve Perry with 4 octave range. Plenty of songs in this catalogue. Check out the MTV Video version Seperate Ways (Worlds Aprt) official video and hold on to your wigs and keys.

If you really want to see and hear vocalist Steve Perry show-out, listen to 'Mother Father' from the 1981 Escape Tour album in Houston. It's from the very same tour that you've posted above. You'll see another side of their talent. And Neal Schoen, the guitar player who you love so much will truly educate you on this one. This song is different. It's still love-based, but from a different and higher perspective. I always suggest checking out the lyrics before listening to this one so that you can truly engage with Steve and Neal's performance on it.
