I honestly don't think most folks fully understand what you are seeing with this incarnation of Journey during this era. I didn't even fully appreciate it when I was younger. The albums of this era were astonishing and pure gold. It didn't last long as Rolie departed in '81 but it sure as hell did burn bright! 🔥

The era before Jonathan Cain showed up and replaced Gregg Rollie was when Journey did their best work. Yes, Escape, Frontiers and Raised on Radio were commercial successes and they all contained some iconic tunes. But, no album from Escape forward has the magical B sides of Infinity, Evolution and Departure. Those tunes are where Journey's real magic can be found.

This one, along with Precious Time are the prime cuts on Departure...ass-kicking live performance. Reminds you that today live sound is too good for it's own good. Back in the day, you relied on your own ability to give the fans a show. You couldn't exactly replicate your record (which defeats the purpose of playing live), so you made it work on the stage. Not so today, everything is prefab. Long live rock!!!

"...Schon's melodic sensibility on the guitar is unparalleled." Right on! Steve Perry's voice is unparalleled as well but Neal Schon is the most underrated guitar god of all time. His solos still send shivers down my spine after 30 years of being a Journey fan. If you need proof of how awesome Journey was without SP, listen to the little-known albums recorded by Journey before SP even joined the band. The prog-rock jams that Gregg Rolie and a then-20-yr-old Schon created together were AMAZING.

@EwerLord: I Still Say, I Really Want To Thank You for Posting the Original Full Length Video Of the Santana's Gregg Rolie and Neal Schon's Everchanged Lineup Progressive and Hard Rock Group, The Now Late JOURNEY In The Live Performance at the Osaka Concert Hall in Osaka, Tokyo on October In the Autumn/Fall Season Of 1980, of "People and Places", Because the Only thing Is: With the Way That Neil Schon who started with the Taking Turn and Trading The Lead Vocals with the Replacement Member, The Alien Project Original Member Stephen Perry who have Been the Most Incomparable Voice which In My Opinion, He would Ever Compare to this Voice Of Neal Schon who Really Should Ever Giving the Major and the Much Better Chance of doing the Exact Much More Of Taking Turn to do the Work On Lead Vocals as well as Doing the Much of the Part Sung the Backing Vocals for Some Of the Songs, and Besides, I Want To Prefer Some Of the Lead Vocal Turn from the Pianist/Organist/Keyboardist Gregg Rolie who Have Started It All with some of the Songs on all 3 Albums, Because it Is Becoming the REAL But PURE Progressive and Hard Rock Masterpieces that is Definitely NOT The So-Called "Nerd" Music, It Is All 100% Fiction/Science Fiction and Graphic Novel Related and the Absolute 50% Performing Art Influencial/Inspired and Related in the Exact and the REAL Substancial Height of the Perfection and through the Massive Peak of the Powers. And Even Though, "People and Places" Is One of the Some of the Few Certain Other UNDERRATED Standout Tracks that is appeared on the Studio Albums from COLUMBIA/CBS Records, Is Definitely Meant To Be Suitable for Major Airplay at Every and Over a Few Many Of All the East And West AOR and then Categoric Rock Radio Stations from All Across North America and Canada. #UnderratedIsAlwaysOverOverrated #FreeFormIsRealActivism #KBKMk4Forever #KBKMkGenerationLives #WhereTheOpenRoadGoesOnForever (In Honor Of the then Anderson, Balsam and Chenfield's RAZOR AND TIE Recording Artists) #TheCanadianMPKGenerationLivesForever (In Honor of One Of (The Kives Family Founded) K-TEL International Recording Artists) #AnythingAnything (In Honor of the Professional Radio DJ and Record Collector #RichardRusso, The MADDOG Of Camden) #AshleyDupreLovesThomasEarle #ThinkingAboutBritneyJeanSpears #ThinkingAboutRebeccaBlack #RememberingJimmyMcculloch (In Honor Of One Of The Everchanged Lineup Replacement Members Of #JamesPaulMccartneyAndLindaEastman's #WINGS) IMAGINE...In The Name Of John Lennon And @yokoono #IHateiHeartRadio #MikeyAndBigBobRules #EddieTrunkRocks #ItsWhitePowerCategoricRock #RightOn!!!

I would love that as well-I love the way Steve sings these songs. His vocals were off the charts! They were magical together! Wish I could have seen this concert in person!

I remember how much this song moved me back then, and today the memory of that feeling is still vivid interesting how polite and attentive the Japanese audience is
