Can you react to Steve Perry solo? He had a new song/video on his comeback solo album Traces called We're Still Here. Also, they wrote the song so they didn't need to learn this song. What I think Steve meant was that they heard it recorded two weeks ago at the time and the audience didn't hear it yet.

As a guy who played in bands for over 20 years I'm sure this was not released when this performance was recorded. The studio version of this song was much more developed and refined than this version. When this was recorded many bands would write and rehearse new songs while they were on tour and often play these songs to develope them and also see how the audience responded to them. It was one of the things you hoped you would get when you went to see a concert.

The first couple times I heard this song on the radio I didn't catch who sang it. From the slightly bombastic style of the chorus I thought it was by the Moody Blues. It closely parallels their style. And there's a reason Steve Perry was known as The Voice.

I'd love to see you react to the 'album' version of this song. I'm genuinely interested in your critique of their singing. Of course, I just now realized that what I hear on (whatever media I use) is a 'produced' version of the music and their voices. Is that why you react to live versions?

About whoever said this was newly released song: If this was 1982, then the song hadn’t been released. Separate Ways is from the 1983 album Frontiers. Meaning they are indeed performing a newly written song, underlined by the fact that Steve is singing it rather differently from the recorded version. (He is revered for consistently replicating the vocals he recorded). The background is two of the members were in unravelling marriages during the Escape tour, which inspired Steve to write these lyrics, addressing the pain his band mates were feeling. And yes, Neal Schon is widely regarded as one of the finest melodic lead guitarists of the rock era. It’s exquisite.

Listen to studio version, drums are more prominent, like he found the spaces to fill, and some of the guitar work a little different. It’s clear they took the song further than they had yet at this point. Still, when would they have rehearsed it before playing it live. Still an amazing turnaround!!

Unlike songs written by others When a band writes a song they spend weeks refining it so they hafve3 already played it 50 to 2 or 300 times. Not all the way through but s u write it and refine it you will play parts many times. I know that some songs I got sick of before we played them live for first time with any band I worked with. Now when u cover a song u want to make it urs but that is a lot easier to do than writing a whole new opne.

This is actually only 2 weeks after learning it and prior to recording it. It's the demo version because of the lyric change in the 2nd verse from reckless hearts to troubled times. Still ,presenting a new demo live after only just learning it and having it sound like this is Masterclass..

He really did mean it when he said he just wrote it. It didn't officially release until almost a year later, so that crowd DID get to hear a brand new never before recorded song. If you want to hear another song done on the fly in front of an audience, Staind's song Outside, live with Fred Durst. All he had was the melody and chorus. The rest of the song was done as he played his guitar. Fred told him he'd go on stage with him if he did the new song. He just didn't have the new song done yet-

Yeah you cant possibly get what Steve Perry sounds like or the traits of his voice from a video with this terrible of audio quality. Thats a shame. If you want a supremely good cover of this song with 2 power house vocalists check out Chris Daughtry and Lizzy Hale from Halestorm. I like it almost as much as the original.

A terrific song. Everyone in the band is a great musician. You need to react to Gino Vanelli from his Live in LA concert. Brother to Brother, Apaloosa, Livin' Inside Myself, Nightwalker. The man has a fabulous voice.

It is a pity that neal schon (lead guitarist) is such a alpha Male who thinks he can make all the decisions alone. That's why the band member get replaced all the time with lawsuits and all

Because their interests lies in producing content, not in knowing good music outside of their immediate exposure. This is good to teach people to look around more.

Finally, someone with a measure of wisdom & common sense asks a question worth answering. There is a Truth that very few people can comprehend even though it is right in front of them. It's called "Fake News". The experiences of 60 years of life have taught me one thing, the only way to know if something is true is to see it with your own eyes. I am not boasting when I say, I have been on the front page of a newspaper 6 times in my life and not one of the front page articles reported the correct facts of the situation. All this said, only a small fraction of what is on KZbin is real, with the majority being fabricated for "clicks & views". I would suggest, the majority of what we have been told about human history is "False". If anyone is interested, let me know and I will point you in the right direction.

A fantastically written song. It's really impressive to me how the core instrumentation in this performance is virtually identical to the studio version. The vocal line is ~90% of the album version. He really just improved some of the little runs at the ends of phrases. Singing along to this one is a guilty pleasure, but gotta admit to wishing it was transposed down a couple steps.

The remix for Stranger Things is eerie. It's interesting to hear how it changes the meaning of the song.
