I felt immense pain when that one classmate expressed not caring if the boy had died or not upon going missing. I can’t even begin to comprehend how someone could go out of their way to extend so much hate towards someone they hardly even know. To someone who simply minds their own business.

I really love the symbolism of Beom getting his identity card late. It’s like he realized his self identity late in life so now he paid a hefty price-the love of his life. Also, the smile Minha gave at the end… that was a very familiar smile. I think all of us who have gone through a similar situation would know. I felt so sad for him, at the same time, I sympathize. This world needs to do better.
@sleepy.dreamer Жыл бұрын
people keep saying that minha killed himself though? so is the person at the end sangbeom? oh wait. maybe you’re talking about the smile at 23:10?
@zzsmile1 Жыл бұрын
@sleepydreamer1651 SPOILER ALERT I thought of the smile at 27:02, it's a poignant smile. Happy that his closeted boyfriend is thinking of a future together which includes him in it but at the same time, it seems Minha can't see himself as an adult, probably due to the dark cloud of depression, he envisages more obstacles or has reached his limit for hoping. (Hence the literal title "Peter Pan's Dream" coz Peter Pan never wanted to grow up) & he might have already made the decision to end his life (the pain) & is putting on a brave front & the trip was a goodbye trip and a good memory. The recent looking self-harm cuts on his wrists were the clues for me. On reflection, Peter Pan also represents Saebeom too coz time came to a standstill for him since Minha went missing (or took his life); he can't fully move on and doesn't want to grow up for fear of forgetting Minha hence he didn't claim his registration ID on ti me as it represents the future he had wished they'd experience together. It's Saebeom standing at the beach at the end, reminiscing & honoring Minha 's memory by revisiting the beach like their last trip together. Such a realistic and heartbreaking tale. I don't wish this kind of pain on anyone. For anyone struggling, I speak from experience when I say don't lose hope nor give up coz things do get better. Even if things don't seem better 'objectively', if you get professional help & counselling, things ultimately get better coz your perspectives & reactions change & you realise the strength & resilience you've gained are due to the whole journey. Sending you love & light.

I just hope Minha wasn’t killed “he’s missing” (says the bullying girls), I hope he didn’t commit suicide (cutting his wrist “not wanting to live”). My hope for Minha was he left the area and found a place where he could be happy and be with a person who he could love and be loved like he wanted to be loved. It’s a shame that with all the deadly diseases, catastrophes, and crime, that need to be acted upon, that being gay, which involves loving another person, would even be an issue in this world.

It’s too unhealthy children. People need to be more kind n compassionate towards eo. I think children should be taught what is love,caring,sexuality n all those hidden topics when they are very young itself. Sp Asian countries should do much better. Their against mentality should be corrected very young. World must be made a better place for love.

Korea (not the only country) has a huge bullying problem especially in schools, not just towards LGBTQ people & unfortunately, people become silent bystanders in fear that intervening will make them the bullies' new target. Corruption due to the misuse of power and money also has an impact, especially if the bullies' family has both. I've seen videos of expat teachers feeling helpless because it's a systemic issue. Nigeria is another country where some senior bullies use the hierarchal system to abuse their power and juniors, including stealing their food provisions in boarding schools. Truly sad. I hope we move beyond the raising awareness part and have faster results at tackling it. It doesn't take much to treat others with kindness and basic courtsey.

Beautiful production. Would like to see it become a series. Some say that Beom was heartless to have left his boyfriend behind to the onslaught of his bullies. I believe and understand why he didn't rush in and how it affected him afterwards. He lived a life of fear. Minha was basically living free because he didn't see where others would be opened to accepting his lifestyle. Generally, the story here opens pathways to conversations regarding mental health and safety within the household and in schools.

While we all wish the story had a storybook happy ending, it wouldn't be an honest one. In real life how many straight high school or even college romances lead to living happily ever after as a couple? It's even lower when it comes to LGBT high school and college romances. Everyone would walk away from a happy ending thinking "that was so sweet", then spend very little, if any, time thinking about the issues raised in the movie. This isn't just a love story LGBT viewers can identify with, it is likely to raise awareness among straight viewers, especially of parents of LGBT kids, who are struggling with how to deal with the situation. It might even cause kids who bully others to give thought to the lasting effects of their cruelty. Maybe it's because I am old (over 50) and lived a little over half my life out of the closet, but while I find the ending sad, I don't see it as being final, at least not for the young man left crying on the beach. The two loved each other very much, but it didn't change the fact that one wanted to live life out and proud, while the other wasn't ready to live that way. This crushing heartbreak will most likely be the catalyst leading him to mature and re-evaluate his priorities in life. He will fall in love again, and his next relationship will benefit from his experience.

As a Chinese, I know very limited Korean, and I finally guessed the Korean meaning of title of the movie, dream of Peter Pan, from the last scene. Fortunately, us gays like are treated much better in China, especially among the younger generation. Both of us have many friends supporting us. But my parents are still against me as a gay. We do not hold hands in public, not wanting to attract unnecessary troubles. Nor do we tell collages about our relationship, afraid to have bad influence to the career. It's sad that people suffer from discrimination just because they are not the same as the majority. Though everyone wishes Minha is just leaving the school, perhaps transferred to another school in another city, the reality is usually cruel. The cutting on his wrist had already implied his fate, and that's pure tragedy. He didn't do anything wrong. He was such a nice and brave boy, pursuing his love, but finally beaten by the unfair life. And in the end when Sangbeom was standing alone on the beach thinking about their past. Back then he believed things would be better once they became adults. But again, the reality is cruel. The fact is that the change of the society attitudes a will be so slow to any single person that things will never be better in his life.

I'm so thankful this movie exists. Kudos to everyone who worked on this masterpiece. Just like another commenter said, I much prefer these stories over the fluffy cutsey ones. This, unfortunately, is the actual reality for many queer people. Seeing that side being represented in media, really helps people who are not part of the LGBTQ+ community understand the bad side of the queer experience and really helps them sympathize with us (instead of just going with what they're used to see). I think that can really help society accept us more, especially in countries that casts us as the rejects. Something I'd also like to point out, is that from my experience I haven't seen many movies or series that showcase self harm. As a gay man with self harm scars, this movie felt so real and I felt closer with the characters and the overall theme.

Things like depression and bullying has such a harmful impact on life. SH is just a temporary solution… while death is permanent. But by taking your own life, you pass the pain to people who cares about you. And life isn’t a movie. There’s no going back if you succeed. We can’t just replay it like we can do with movies. And then there are also people who don’t really want to die. The real reason they try is because they just want everything to stop for a while. I’m like that. I don’t want to die. I just don’t want to live. Anyway, beautifully written and directed. And such amazing acting ❤

16:16 why do you cut yourself? Because I hate being alive. That made my heart break, as someone who used to be severely depressed and still struggles a lot, that sentence pierced right through me. I’m so sorry for everyone who has felt and still feels that way. I’m still waiting for the day where I can fully accept my feelings of being born in the wrong body. Perhaps we’re speaking about different feelings here but in my eyes, we share the exact same struggle. Coming out, not getting accepted, the self image you have of yourself, created by society that sees you as something not ‘normal’. Losing the one you love by suicide is something I would never wish upon someone. As someone who recently had to go through this kind of loss, nobody and nobody deserves to feel like they are better off dead. It’s truly heartbreaking for the person struggling, and for the people they leave behind. Anyways bawling my eyes out right now, such a short movie but it definitely left it’s message.

My ex decided to cut off his relationship with me because of pressure from his family (they want him to get married as he was the first born, and he would inherit the family business). At that time, I felt what Minha did. Everything flashbacked to me and it felt like he didn't really care about me for the 2 years we were together. But I realized that he was going through his own battle too and I didn't want to be selfish. I was lucky I managed to get through it, but I know there are people like Minha who are more vulnerable and I really wish that the world could be kinder for them. The real kicker for me was the Febreze ending, because my ex would always tell me my perfume is nice and one day he bought a bottle for himself so he can always remember how I smell 🥺
