Well, in retrospect I think Steve Perry was proven right in his sentiments that he didn't feel like he was really part of the band. I can understand his feelings there, and it would be even reinforced after the other band members made the decision to drop him and move on. In fact Neal, himself, stated that there was a band before Steve Perry. In Steve's mind, to some extent, he probably always felt like the new guy, even if he was instrumental in running things for a period of time.

I think it's easy to say Steve Perry was the real talent in song writing, but if that were true where has be been all these years. The band together with Perry had a magic neither side could replicate on their own. I would also bet that being famous for Perry wore him down being hassled all the time by people. Lose that freedom to just be a normal regular person end up isolating. Seemed like he just gave up on music after 2000 his come back in 2021-22 I think was for the fans I think he done with music.

@@CaptainCraigKWMRZ "According to the outlet, Perry received "a sum total of 50 percent of the net income due Schon or Cain, whichever is higher, from the first two post-Perry Journey albums." He was reportedly also slated to rake in 25 percent of the income from Journey's third album sans Perry, and 12.5 percent of the income from each Journey LP thereafter. Arrangements were reportedly put in place to pay Perry a slice of the "net income" from Journey's tours, which encompassed "tour merchandise, tour sponsorship income and any tour support payments." Anything else ?
@damiensky42592 ай бұрын
@@CaptainCraigKWMRZ You always been a clown ? "Court documents show that Journey were required to pay their former singer a sum total of 50 percent of the net income due Schon or Cain, whichever is higher, from the first two post-Perry Journey albums. Perry was then to receive 25 percent of the same net income from their third studio project without him, and 12.5 percent from every Journey album that follows. All of those figures were calculated after expenses. Journey have released four albums and an EP since Perry left. The first two studio LPs and EP featured initial replacement Steve Augeri; Arnel Pineda sings on the most recent pair of albums. Perry made a similar deal on revenue from Journey's live dates. He was to receive 50 percent of net income from their first two tours after their split, 25 percent from the third tour and then 12.5 percent from every subsequent tour. Net income, the document reminds, again "shall mean Schon or Cain's share, whichever is greater, of all revenues earned" - including "tour merchandise, tour sponsorship income and any tour support payments." Expenses can again be deducted, "excluding any salaries paid to Schon, Cain or any other member of the new Journey." Perry is also entitled to the same percentages of "miscellaneous income" not specifically covered by the album and touring agreements. In all cases, there was a floor on how little Journey could claim as net income. "Notwithstanding anything contained in the foregoing," the filing says, "in no event shall the net income be less than 20 percent of the total amount earned." At the same time, "Perry shall not be responsible for any losses in connection with the new Journey entity.""

@Gilmourfan112 ай бұрын
For me me Steve Perry ruined the band. Besides finding his vocals waaay too nasally, he “tamed” Schon’s guitar playing as well as Rollie’s keyboard playing and silenced Rollie’s vocals. Greg was the best vocalist Journey ever had. Perry’s a crooner not a rock vocalist and his schmaltzy style declawed the original Journey. I get they became very popular with Perry but, they ceased being a rock band and became a pop band. I’ve often wondered what would have happened if they would've released a live album as their fourth one. From what I’ve heard they were a great live band in those early days and had no trouble attracting a crowd. A live album might just have captured the true heart and soul of the band, better than a studio album and kickstarted record sales without selling their musical souls. It worked for the Allman Brothers Band. Their first two studio albums produced lack luster sales. They then released their live At Filmore East and their popularity exploded. They also didn’t have a true “frontman” with Greg Allman providing the lead vocals from behind his keyboards.
