Brilliant performance by Journey. I've always loved how Steve takes the song on a "journey", meaning, he adds something extra live, he's pitch perfect, he finds notes to add, that keep you mesmerized. You can hear it especially in the beginning with the added "turnin', turnin'" and at the end also elevating the song with "everybody! hey! Hey! Hey!", I mean its just fantastic! g

Hadn't heard this version. Thanks for a great post! One drawback to a huge catalogue is that in later tours, they had to shorten each number without the opportunity for the 'jamming' spontaneous atmosphere that this version gives. But, a huge catalogue is, I'm sure, a burden no band would mind lifting-and their Perry era music is among the very, very best that ever was or ever will be.

Steve flew to great heights with the band, the band did as well. They were just the best together. Steve himself said he forgot how good they were together when he was remastering to vinyl, the greatest hits 1, then, greatest hit 2. He said he got emotional while working on them. Amazing voice. Back in the days when you had to be gifted with a really awesome voice and the passion for the songs. Nowadays it's auto tune. A real shame. I Love This! And oooo I miss these guys. Raw, rare, talent. These guys were so in-sinc with each others rhythms. Perry's voice and Neal's guitar playing makes an almost spiritual connection. We all took it for granted then. Never realized what a really rare talent we were blessed to witness.
