This is going to be a fun series to watch. I'm just a weekend warrior working in my backyard trying to make knife shaped objects out of damascus. Almost done #4. You are inspiring though dude, impressive set of skills far beyond your years 👍

Your grinding ability is remarkable. It’s almost impossible to believe you can create such symmetry with free hand work. Yet there it is.

Does anybody else agree???? I have absolutely no idea what this young man talks about… The vocabulary is totally over my head: but it is totally therapeutic to watch and mesmerising! I love each video so much but I have absolutely no idea what he’s going on about ;)))) WONDERFUL!

First of all, this is going to be a fantastic build. Second of all, you have been talking so much through your last few videos, which is meant as a compliment! The amount of information you are passing along through your narration is fantastically dense and informative, and I love it. It really shows how much you love this profession and the ease at which you explain things to us dummy non-smiths is impressive. The video and sound quality have vastly improved since your first video as well, so keep it up!

I like the notes on the time passing, that helps show the process is not 15 seconds. Also it shows the care you take in getting things just right.

I'm glad you said you sanded on the guard for so many hours. I've resigned myself to the fact it takes me 1 or 2 days to get a guard designed, fitted, shaped and sanded. Thanks for videoing this series, I plan for JS in 2023. See ya at blade show

Great video! This is the content I love and have been waiting for. 3/8" is .375" in Imperial decimal and 9.525mm in metric, the metric equivalent is typically 10mm or 1 centimetre.

Love seeing your process both thought and actual, it's good to see someone that doesn't get stuck with paralysis of analysis but able to move forward with good thoughts and efforts using clear thinking first, I'm sure you'll get that JS stamp !

I love watching people do really fine work and say stuff like, "I got it rough sanded to 400 grit". Also, how long does a build like this take. I feel like knowing something like that really put it into perspective, when all we see is a 20 min KZbin video.

This kind of build going for JS probably takes about 60-80 hours.
@cae2487
@cae2487 2 жыл бұрын
for this knife I'd say he probably has a total of under 30 hours of actual work time but for the whole journeyman test it's a whole lot more since he has to build 5 "show" knives and then you add the amount of time he also put into his performance blade that had to pass its tests before being allowed to show the 5 display knives.

The quality of work from many Journeyman Smiths is some of the best in the world, and when you make JS you should be REALLY proud. I'm hoping to present in 2023. Best of luck to ya sir, but I don't think you'll need it ;)
