Land Grab (1998): How President Mugabe set about confiscating a third of Zimbabwe's productive land.

www.journeyman....
President Mugabe wanted to take back 1/3 of all Zimbabwe’s productive farmland from white farmers and give it to the country’s peasants. In 1998, a mere 4,500 wealthy whites owned a staggering 50% of Zimbabwe, and Mugabe says they had until August that year to give that land back.
As Europe sat down with African leaders in Cairo in March 1998, Zimbabwe's colonial hangover will be taking centre stage. Land was an issue throughout Zimbabwe’s rocky transition to independence. But when it came, Mugabe was generous to the whites - allowing them to stay on. Indeed it was his anti-racism policies that won him favour. Now many feel he is trying to divert criticism about corruption in government by pushing through land reform that will see black farmers re-settled onto land seized by the British colonialists. The whites say it’s State-sanctioned robbery - but the government says that’s exactly what the white man did.

So the farmer who was 1 of 6 sons says the land he owns is sandy and poor quality and doesn't grow corn very good. Camera pans over to the neighboring farm that shows great fields of tobacco and the poor farmer says he wants to move over and claim the farm the neighbor owns? Chances are that it isn't the soil since more than likely both farms has the same type of soil. The poor guy is just not a very good farmer if he's growing one crop but it always does bad and his next door neighbor is doing great growing a different crop one would think the poor farmer might switch to the crop the successful neighbor is growing. I see that thought never even came close to going through the head of the poor farmer in this video. Some situations you just can't fix. Maybe the poor farmer should find something else to do.

Why is Africa so rich in natural resources, but so poor? Where are the leaders in Africa?
@08Stella
@08Stella 2 жыл бұрын
The leaders ARE the problem. Everywhere. If only our governments didn't exist, neither would the majority of our problems. Worldwide. I just posted about this myself, going down the RABBIT HOLE, asking the same question: *why do you think AFRICA has to remain poor? Why do you think Kadaffi from Lybia had to go?* I give you an example (one of my writings) Once upon a time, there was a plan to counter the injustice that takes place in the export, selling raw material (platinum, manganese, gold..) to the world, from Africa. Once it’s mined they are not processed in Africa, they are sent to rich countries for processing and creation of products. The finished products are then sold back to Africa at exuberant prices and the governments in AFRICA pay heavy TAXES on these same products that were mined in AFRICA the begin with. There was a plan to counter this by the man named Moammar Kaddafi from Lybia. He planned to create a Central Bank of Africa, with one currency, backed by the natural raw resources in AFRICA. THAT, WAS REVOLUTIONARY. Because the British pound, the Dollar, the Chinese yuan, the Japanese yen are not backed by anything. .. and if this had gone through, Kadaffi’s plan, the standard of living of the people in the rich Western countries would have dropped like a rock. That, is why Kadaffi had to go. Keeping AFRICA in DEBT. This is just one example out of a million. Like the Ghanian President pointed it out: *"Why is it that no matter how generous the cherity Africa stays poor?" - President of Ghana.* Another important player in this fight is the Indian Ecologist, *Dr. Vandana Shiva.* Her 3 minute video on WORLD HUNGER in Africa and India is phenomenal. I cried. Look it up here on YT. Many of us are asking the same question. *How come that the people who are actually working on the fields, producing the food, are going hungry?* It's messed up everywhere.. there are good people everywhere who are fighting the good fight and stand for fairness (not hatred and carrying on with the war). Many white folks opposed the APARTHEID too, but couldn't do anything while they were in power. Look up MANDELA's life - the old videos - you can see how many was on his side and they knew back then that it'd create unimaginable, notorious problems for generations to come. ... I could go on but it's just a failure NOT to notice that it's not us, the people (white or black or Indian or Asian) are the problem, but our governing apparatus. What will it take that ppl wake up? I am even afraid to ask these days, xx..

It’s easy to see how this is easy to do when the land is in remote regions and in hilly terrain. But as usual, the black guy is always the victim in western medias eyes. It’s reports like this that convinced western countries that Africans were being abused while the truth is the opposite.

@@alfredphamotse1316 Sorry but that's what you have been told to think. All Africa's warring doesn't have "the White Man" to blame. Africans have been warring and raiding each other for cattle from the time cattle husbandry was introduced from the Arabian Peninsula. Africans were taking Africans to sell as slaves before any "terrible White Man" used slaves in the Americas. Africans are as much human as everyone else. Humans always want more and be more than the next guy. The only thing that prevented us from suicide as a species is imho religions. It caused lots of harm too but I think we would have been even worse off without it. Conclusion: forget about blaming the white man and in a decade or two the yellow man. Rather drop the racism.

lol, Zimbabwe last had a government, if we're being generous in maybe 84..after that Mugabe decided to form a parliament of dunces. There was no ambition at land reform, just political scapegoating and grand larceny. I was from the business/political class. most politicos, and cronies got several commercial farms a piece. My dad refused and fell out with people, including his own brother who had the gall to, (years after a protracted legal battle), hire the white farmer whose farm he had been illegally awarded, to run said farm. People to this day will embezzle the development funds given to them for farming when it ever occurs and most sold off all the implements upon reception of the farms. I have friends who had farms they never went to, estates in Zvimba, luxury homes they originally were renting and then one day just stopped paying for and you cannot throw them out. The party more and more is composed of uneducated, boorish thieves and murderers. Zimbabwe had but a brief moment in which it could have gone in the right direction..by 98 people were just waking up to the reality of the situation, but the dye had been cast in the 80's. Any nation that chases out capital is doomed to fail, the details do not matter.

The problem is people owning 100s/1000s of acres of land to plant 1 crop… Chemicals and tilling of land destroys everything…plants, animals and people (look at the so developed countries and the health of their people)…there’ll forever be a need to develop more and more of these unhealthy practices… Divide down the land and let people micromanage through Regenerative Agriculture, build ponds, swales (water catch way systems)…mimic nature…then infrastructure can implemented

A fiasco that was just a political move by Mugabe. The country is now a lot worse than it was when this was filmed. 90% unemployed , inflation back up in the 100;s of percent . The country is on the.point of collapse. ASs for stolen land you need to be educated on that. The land was divided up with blacks and whites getting first class land then the next best land was done the same and so on. The blacks were interested only in producing what they needed for their family for that year despite white farmers being sent out to help them produce more so they could sell some and make a profit. You have to address what you can see is escalating to prevent it from being a disaster. What is interesting now however is that no matter your race you can sense an impending revolt worldwide over inflation. So many people are beginning to understand the reason behind revolts and look deeper into what caused them.

zimbabwe was forced to collapse by sanctions imposed when mugabe wanted to repatriate land to the natives,upto this day sanctions are the main obstacle of zimbabwe success that's why multipolarism is the way forward

Sanctions are used as an excuse for Zim government failure. Rhodesia had harsh sanctions imposed on them but their economy never collapsed despite being in the middle of a costly civil war.

So-called sanctions were just targeted restrictions and used as an excuse for incompetence. They have been lifted for several months now and no improvement, it's made no difference.
